After a hospital stay, my mom was discharged into hospice care, and we found ourselves in need of 24-hour support. I contacted more than 15 caregiving agencies, hoping to find a team that could meet my mom's needs and provide compassionate end-of-life care. From my very first conversation with Brenda, the case manager at Complete In-Home Care, I felt reassured that we were in capable hands. Despite having only a couple of days to arrange care, Brenda assembled an outstanding team of caregivers with hospice and end-of-life experience, which was exactly what our family needed. Every caregiver who came into our home was professional, knowledgeable, dependable, and compassionate. They cared for my mom with dignity, respect, and kindness, treating her as if she were their own family member. Their experience and attentiveness gave us confidence that my mom was comfortable and receiving the best possible care during her final days. What stood out most was not only the care they provided to my mom, but also the support they gave to our entire family. They understood the emotional challenges that come with saying goodbye to a loved one and offered comfort, guidance, and reassurance when we needed it most. I signed a service agreement that spelled out their rates. I gave them my credit card info when I signed the agreement, and they charged my account without providing itemized invoices or receipts until I asked for them. Upon examining them, I noticed that the amounts they charged were higher than the amounts I calculated based on the agreement and the number of hours of service they provided. It boiled down to two specific discrepancies: 1. The agreement clearly states: "A corresponding hourly rate of 1 and 1/2 times the regular rate will be applied and billed for all hours in excess of 9 hrs. / day, 40 hours per week." The REGULAR rate that I was quoted was $36.00 per hour, so the OT rate at time-and-a-half rate was $54.00. The agreement also clearly states: "The twenty-four (24) hour period constituting the following holidays will be billed at 1 and 1/2 times the regular rate: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day." They did provide services over the July 4 holiday, and the above excerpt says those hours will be billed at 1 1/2 times the REGULAR rate. The agreement does not mention anything about a different "regular" rate for holidays. Yet I was billed $81.00 for each of those 24 hours (1 1/2 times the OT rate). 2. The agreement clearly states: "Billing will be based on actual time worked by caregivers." My spouse passed away, and the caregiver left, several hours before the caregiver's shift was over, yet I was charged for the entire shift, not for the ACTUAL TIME WORKED. When I brought this to the attention of CIHC, I was told that it's their policy to bill for the entire shift, whether or not the caregiver worked the entire shift. (Then why did the agreement say otherwise?) In each of these cases, there was no way of my knowing about those discrepancies before I signed the agreement, and therefore, I was not able to make an informed decision. After weeks of emails and phone calls, they finally refunded me the amount for the holiday rate discrepancy ($198.00). But as of Oct. 20, they have outright refused to refund the partial shift amount ($162.00). Regarding care, it was adequate. The main caregiver they sent was good at performing the services but lacked compassion. I felt she was just there to do a job. Two other caregivers were much more caring but weren't as available. I'll never use CIHC again and do not recommend them.

She didn't miss a thing and once we were signed up I felt great relief knowing I had this company on board to walk me through this process. I called on a Monday, the nurse Amanda came to assess mom that afternoon and we had approval for services within an hour. By the next morning all sorts of equipment was delivered; it was amazing how quickly they worked. The next day Juliet the RN came and checked out mom. Both nurses were so kind and gentle with my mom. Juliet went over the transitioning signs and other information that was very helpful to me in knowing what to expect. She spent a lot of time with me, I never felt rushed; Juliet's care was genuine. Communication was top notch; I received text notifications every time Juliet was going to come by. Both Juliet and Joyce the social worker arrived within minutes of my mom transitioning and it was so comforting to have them here. I had interviewed other hospice companies in the past and while the people I met with were nice, they felt a bit fake. I did not feel this way about Unique Hospice. Their attention and care is real and very respectful. I highly recommend Unique Hospice to walk through this difficult time with you. Renita was sending videos of my incapacitated brother along with his bad actor caretaker who Happened to clean out my brothers checking account out on July 16th 2026 to my brother's attorney who drew up his AMCD and POA etc. I demanded a copy of the videos be sent to me immediately. Apparently, my brother was being psychologically tortured by Paul Mendoza according to Renita. He was telling my brother that I was going to put him in a nursing home. I asked Renita who was telling my brother that and her reply was it had to be Paul Mensoza. NO one else was there. Paul sent the videos to Renita and Renita sent them to my brother's estate attorney. My brother's estate attorney was approached and called by Renita. Very strange/odd behavior. After this a few days later, Roze Room called Paul Mendoza to check to see how Michael was and Paul tried to fire them. He has no authority to do such a thing. Renita was another victim of Paul Mendoza. She was used. The Spirtual Advisor story contradicted the HOA cameras. Joe Smith (spiritual advisor) stated he waited outside my brother's building for 45 minutes waiting to be let in the building. The HOA has him on Camera entering the building at 6:05PM. Joe, for your info i have installed a security system in my brother's condo. Joe called me on the phone and he was very sarcastic, disingenuous and uncaring nature. I hired these people because my brother wanted to stay home and the women at Cedars gave me the name and stated they would travel to Century City. Luckily, my brother's building has security cameras and has a library of people that come into the building and can tell you exactly what time they entered. Medicare and Optum covered the hospice side. I paid separately for 24/7 caregivers through Sincere Care Services, which I chose because I wanted Cantonese and Mandarin speakers so my mother would be more comfortable. Five Star was recommended by the Optum physician on staff. Separately, a family member recommended them too, through a friend whose father had passed the week before. I checked their ratings on Yelp and Google before moving forward, and I am extremely happy with the service we got from start to finish. This is the point where you decide between more hospital intervention, which can be painful, and accepting the situation and moving to hospice. Hospice is the wedding coordinator for a peaceful death. Things can still go wrong even when you plan everything perfectly, but Five Star was there at every step to handle whatever came up. The rough sequence for anyone about to do this: 1. Decide on hospice. 2. Line up caregivers. They are separate from Five Star, but Five Star will point you to good ones. I wanted Chinese-speaking caregivers and Mark made it happen. 3. Coordinate with the hospital on transportation. 4. Be home to receive the supplies. 5. Be home when your loved one arrives. Have a bottle of distilled water ready for the oxygen machine. 6. Have the nurse and the caregiver both there so you can learn the comfort meds. 7. I used 24/7 caregivers on 12-hour shifts. I made a point of being there whenever a new caregiver came on, so I could walk them through the medications and get their phone number. Nurses came once a day to check on my mother since she was close. You do not have to be there the whole time, but I tried to be there for shift changes. One thing I wish I had watched more closely was bowel movements. My mother had been constipated since the hospital because she was not eating. Another tip: put together a playlist of beautiful music to play in the room. Otherwise it is silence, or your loved one is listening to caregivers talk and scroll on their phones. Even when your loved one is not responsive, they are still listening and drifting in and out. Tell them everything will be okay. Thank them for everything they did for you. I think it helps them go peacefully. Anytime I needed something, Mark was a text or a call away and he always answered. Again, they are the wedding coordinators for a loved one's passing, and they will do everything within their power to help you through it.

I urge you to carefully consider this before contracting with any hospice provider. Unfortunately, our experience with Faith & Hope made an already painful situation even harder. In April 2025, my mom suffered a massive stroke. She was placed under Continuous Care (CC), which meant she required critical, around-the-clock nursing support. We were told her case would be re-evaluated after three days. However, the care was stopped in less than 24 hours and we were given only 4 hours' notice that services would be discontinued. At that point, it was clear our needs no longer aligned with Faith & Hope's philosophy of care. We scrambled to hire private help on extremely short notice. That night, my mom was in significant pain & experienced agitation. She needed her medication adjusted and an increase of the dosage frequency to help manage her symptoms. The next day, we made final attempts to Faith & Hope to reassess mom's eligibility for CC, even though the on-call night nurse, when we asked, did acknowledge that we were free to seek another hospice provider. We waited all day for a response from Faith & Hope, but heard nothing. Faced with another evening without adequate care, we transferred my mom to a different hospice. They gave us the right care without hesitation. Sadly, our mom passed away only 4 days later. The only positive experience we had with Faith & Hope was with Nurse Theresa. She cared for my mom with compassion, dedication and a true commitment to patient advocacy. Theresa's thoughtfulness and support helped guide my brothers and me through an incredibly challenging time, and for that we are deeply grateful.
