I was under the impression Ethan Allen furniture was high quality, certainly the price of what they sell would lead you to believe that. We ordered 2 reclining leather club chairs, one with an ottoman. They are beautiful and mechanically and structurally sound, but the leather began to peel after several years. They are pricy but I thought Ethan Allen was a premium company. I felt it important to let people who shop here to be aware of this. read more

I am not sure which Ethan Allen (EA) the other reviews are talking about, but I have not been disappointed in EA in terms of staff or products for over 20 years. I recently purchased living room and bed room furniture from the Birmingham, MI store - Michael Lahner was (and still is) my design consultant. He is professional, listens and delivers great advice and service. Now, you will have a wait a bit for your furniture to be delivered by EA, just like with any bespoke pieces. The only problem with EA furniture is that it will last FOREVER, so you had better like what you purchased because you will have it for a long time. read more

This review is for the Ethan Allen store in downtown Birmingham and reflects my experience with Laurie Mahnick, Design Consultant and the store manager, Pam. To start, I have been a loyal Ethan Allen customer for 20 years and have purchased furnishings and decor for three homes in three states. Up until my recent and first purchase experience at the Birmingham, Michigan store, I would have gladly recommend Ethan Allen. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about this experience and Ethan Allen has lost me as a loyal customer. Due to their lack of customer care and professionalism, I would urge anyone to find another furniture retailer. Ena Stewart-Birmingham, MI Ethan Allen. Ena is the name to trust when you are looking for guidance and on-trend advice related to home furnishings. Ena has the ability to balance professionalism and industry know how with a warm communication style that put me instantly at ease. For instance, I shared that I wanted materials that were ultra-low maintenance since we often have damp bathing suits from the lake. When Ena shared her fabric recommendations I was so amazed by how fantastic they felt and looked for being friendly to our casual way of life. To take it a step further, Ena Stewart gave us advice related to what color to paint the first floor of our home, spending time explaining her logic behind each idea. I had a general thought of what I was looking to accomplish with our first floor redo and my expectations of Ena were high. Frankly I was looking for her to disappoint in some way, and just waited for the bummer-meter to skyrocket. 0830/19 It is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING after having ordered a sectional from Ethan Allen in January 2019 and being told it would be delivered in April only to get the incorrect sectional pieces in June. Despite the fact I expressed significant concerns about getting a match when ordering replacement pieces and strongly suggested they reorder all pieces Ethan Allen chose to move forward with ordering replacement pieces. It is now August of 2019 and the replacement pieces just delivered DO NOT MATCH THE EXISTING PIECES. I WANT A TOTAL COORDINATED SECTIONAL, 2 CHAIRS AND 2 OTTOMANS AS I ORIGINALLY ORDERED 8 MONTHS AGO Detail of events... Ordered furniture (over 20 weeks ago) in January. Reached out to Laurie in early April for an update. Was told it was delayed but that she would keep an eye on the order and let me know if anything changed. Reached out again on 4/23 and was told the order is now delayed to the week of 5/20. I am disappointed with the delay and even more so that I am only informed of the delays reactively. Laurie has the audacity to ask if I still want to order pillows for the sectional. Given this experience I will not shop here in the future...5/29 - I received two updates via phone. The first indicating the furniture is out of production and the second indicating the furniture is on a truck. Sounds like it will likely be delivered in June. This is well beyond the 10-12 week timeframe I was informed of during the purchasing orocesI hope it is worth the wait..6/17 so after waiting 20 weeks for my sectional one of the pieces was ordered wrong and I have an arm in the middle of my sectional. The manager (Tracee) seemed more defensive than apologetic but did come to my house to get a sample of the leather to ensure dye lot match for the replacement pieces. I was informed it will likely take 3 weeks just to get approval on the dye lot match. Once the dye lot is approved I'm in for another long wait to get the correct items. obviously there are no checks and balances in place for orders and/or the sales/design team needs additional training. To say I am disappointed is an absolute understatement. Both Room and Board and Crate and Barrel have had shorter turn around times and have been able to expedite processes when nexdesarbut EA seems to have their hands tied. read more

Beware of Ethan Allen. My wife and I used Ethan Allen to furnish a good portion of our home about a year ago. The resulting saga with their 'design studio staff' (sales people) and customer service organization have led me to write my first-ever yelp review. I certainly made a number of mistakes in my purchase, and want to prevent others from doing the same. I was under the impression that Ethan Allen put out high quality furniture and service given their showroom looks- I was wrong. 1. The sales process- Ethan Allen sets up their sales process to keep customers away from the furniture they are looking at for most of the sales experience. They often seek an out of the way table, and adorn it with fabric samples, layouts, inspiration pieces. In retrospect, this seems in part to keep the customer distracted from observing product quality. Be wary of sitting down to talk before you have a keen idea of what you are looking for. Do not let their sales team help you design a space before you look at all pieces alone. They will work to rush you through the showroom and not let you browse/investigate on your own. (my mistake should not be yours!) 2. The store layout- The sales people do not like customers wandering around alone (like most furniture stores. They use a combination of their sales staff and tightly organized furniture to distract from relatively poor product construction. Product quality- Most wood pieces are MDF with veneers/ stained epoxy finishes, even a $650+ copper-top side table has a particle board substrate , where the manufacturing screws can become dislodged (as happened to us- they allowed for a return on this one). The wood veneer surfaces are highly susceptible to scratches and delamination. We purchased a small chest of drawers, and out a child's rubber ball on the surface, which somehow converted the stain/veneer to a soft, sticky goo, and exposing the light wood underneath. Ethan Allen does have very skilled techs to repair furniture, but you may well need to pay for it (even under warranty). See below for custom service. 2. custom pieces- any piece of furniture that you put a cloth or leather on is custom. This includes basic sofas and leather chairs. Under no circumstances will Ethan Allen allow you to return a custom piece. This means that if it enters your house, and you sign anything the driver shows you- you will not be able to return the product, regardless of whether it is the same as you had been led to believe. I purchased a fabric sofa with clean lines, straight arms, and a boxy look. Thebsofa that arrived was overstuffed, with pursed wrinkles near the piping on the pillows, and arm piping that was not sewn to line up with the sofa arms. Despite numerous complaints to ethan Allen, at least three tech visits (including ripping apart then sofa in our home to attempt a repair), would they ever allow a return. We attempted to dispute through the credit card company, and due to the very fine print on Ethan Allen 's forms, were refused. Knowing we had to keep the sofa, we elected to not have any further tech repairs, in fear of an even worse outcome than we started. 3. Customer service/warranty- these are all routed to regional service centers, not your local showroom. After the point of sale, you will not see your showroom team again. Ethan Allen claims a 5-year warranty on their work. For the delaminated wood we experienced (as noted above), we were told this was due to "user error," and not product defect. There is not wording/caution on the products or literature about how items may impact the surface (a rubber ball in this instance). Once Ethan Allen has made a decision, you will find any changes extremely difficult. I have been quite disappointed by the overall experience with the company. Their sales tactics Can be manipulative, their product quality is lower than initially visible (and lower than expected/ the price point suggests), and they are inflexible with repairs and returns. Your money is better spent elsewhere. read more

i went to Ethan Allen to look at drapery fabrics. I worked with Laurie and she was so professional, courteous and pleasant. I have been to several drapery places and have been disappointed by the service as well as the selection of fabrics. Laurie listened to my requests and we sat together going through samples for about 45 minutes. She didnt rush me and gave me good advice throughout the process. She is coming to my house next week to measure and bring the samples we picked. I havent ordered yet, but most likely will if all goes well and its within budget. I really have to disagree with all the other reviews here. I feel the service was spot on and I was extremely impressed. To be honest the other reviews seem a bit unfair. Why would the delivery team install your custom headboard to your existing bed? Of course that would be something you would do yourself or hire someone to do. also, as far as Ethan Allen not using solid wood for some of their pieces, not all particle board and veneers are bad. Wood is just as susceptible to scratching and damage. Ikea veneers vs ethan allen veneers has a big different in quality. read more

I am honestly quite shocked at the other review on here as my experience at this Ethan Allen was perfect. My interior designer---yes he was an interior designer with a degree in interior design and ASID certification not a sales person--- gave us a beautiful plan for our living room. Our tables are solid maple and really sharp...not mdf or particle board. Everything we've purchased we've been quite happy with. I'm completely satisfied. I would highly recommend Ethan Allen to anyone looking for quality furniture and free interior design advice. read more

Moving into a new home, it's been a bit challenging finding the right furniture pieces to match what we already have and fit into the new space/aesthetic. We worked with Laurie at the Birmingham location and enjoyed her sense of style, professionalism, and friendliness. She really helped us with pulling everything together and her conscientiousness was especially appreciated. I didn't realize I gave her our current address when finishing up the order, but she caught it and made sure to schedule the delivery to the new address. I definitely recommend Laurie to anyone looking for furniture. AND, I will add that I was pleasantly surprised to see that EA has many modern pieces that will make our brand new home shine! read more

Worst customer service ever. I bought a room full of furniture including a custom headboard. The delivery people would not install it to my standard bed frame. The store told me to go to the hardware store and do it myself. I had to call corporate headquarters in Danbury CT and it is still leaning against the wall at this writing. I will never set foot in that store again! If there is anything wrong after the sale, their policy is tough luck! read more

After reading reviews I was skeptical to buy from Ethan Allen. I too used Ethan Allen years ago without any problems. However with my new order for a coffee table and 2 side tables I experienced the same good service... No, Better Service than I experienced years ago. Right from the start, Tamara was my sales associate, she gave me some great advice then let me think things over with my husband. I didn't want matchy furniture, instead wanted a blend to each piece and to blend with what I had already. With suggestions given by Tamara, the pick was easy and perfect. When it was time to order, I expressed my concern over low ratings I had seen on-line. Discussing the process in full, I decided to place my order. Two weeks later, we received our order exactly as planned. Delivery was on time, without a scratch, very professional drivers. I highly recommend Ethan Allen in Birmingham MI, and ask for Tamara. Can't wait to be able to work with her again on our next project. read more
