They have portfolios of the artsists' work on the website. Based on Yelp reviews, I chose Andy Reach and he was great. In order to reserve your timeslot, you send a deposit to your artist (I chose to do so via Venmo), for me it was $60. After you receive the tattoo you pay the remaining amount, $40 for me. [Note: $100 is the minimum fee at Redemption, even for a small tattoo like mine. I was happy to pay that knowing I'm working with a great artist at a reputable shop, but you can probably find cheaper for small, single-color tattoos elsewhere.] Don't forget to tip too! Andy did a great job on my tattoo. I had a really specific design (the 3 stars from the corner of the page in the Harry Potter books) and he copied it exactly. He was very honest and upfront with me about what size and location would last well instead of promising something that would never work long term. I left with a slightly bigger tattoo than I'd anticipated, but I feel confident that it won't fade or blur like the smaller size I'd initially planned on. All in, I was probably under the needle for 20 minutes tops. It felt like someone digging their fingernail into your skin. Sure, it hurts, but no biggie. A month and a half later, my tattoo has healed really nicely and looks great. It bled a little bit the first night but other than that healing was fairly quick and easy. I will absolutely come back to Redemption and Andy specifically if/when I decide to get my next tattoo.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I had to wait a little while longer to visit the shop for the first time! After booking the consultation, and meeting my artist, I put down my deposit and waited one painstakingly long week before the official appointment arrived. Of course I was nervous as heck because I had job idea how much the tattoo cost, or how painful it was gonna be, plus doing anywhere during all this madness is a challenge within itself. However, all the safety precautions were being taken, all artists and customers (including myself) had masks and gloves on, and the procedure went great! Jebb, (my artist) did a phenomenal job of making me feel comfortable and calm during the whole thing, and I will definitely be coming back here for my next tattoo! p.s, my art is healing really nicely, and the pain afterwards was little to none!

My wife and I were visiting Boston and we had an idea for a tattoo that we have wanted for a while…read more We called many places around the area and they were all booked for the weekend (we were only there for a few days). Through a little bit of research, we found Hourglass Tattoo Studio and specifically Sanjay. We really liked his portfolio and emailed him the same day to see if he had availability. He responded pretty quickly and we scheduled an appointment with him for the next day. He drew up the design and with his edits it looked amazing, but explained that he didn't think the piece would work because of the curvature of our arms. This came as a bit of a surprise, but we trusted him since he is the expert so we decided to go with something else. We countered on the spot, with a new design, and thankfully (and surprisingly), he took it all in stride and drew up the design with no complaints. I think it helped that the new design was a bit smaller and simpler. Even though the new tattoo design was very impromptu for him, he was very fair and patient the whole time explaining what he thought would work and what would not. He is a very easy going and chill guy, with great taste in music, and you feel like you are in great hands. Not to mention the needle he uses (some kind of high speed, quiet needle) is much more painless than other needles I have felt before. I appreciate Sanjay for drawing up a great design and not being frustrated with us when we decided to change tattoo ideas. Thanks so much! The healing process was also nice and easy! Highly recommend Sanjay for any tattoos (small or large) that you are interested in getting. Also he has very fair prices.

Note that if you're there for a tattoo appointment (not a piercing appointment) the tattoo doors are two doors down from the main shop! I will most definitely return for more tattoos and piercings. Highly recommend Hannah's work as well! The one thing I will say is I do wish I was sent home with a bandage wrap (such as tegaderm or saniderm) instead of a traditional healing wrap with plastic wrap, but I understand each artist is different. Not a deal breaker for me at all just a skincare/method preference!

I was kind of nervous as this was my first tattoo in awhile and way more detailed than any of my previous tattoos, but I swear to god it's like Fred took exactly what I wanted out of my brain and tattooed it on my arm. Not only is he incredibly talented with his fine line work and details to really make the piece pop, but he was genuinely so nice! I've had a few tattoo artists who were pretty condescending about my tattoo and design choices and just their general manner (none from here), and Fred was the complete opposite. He was also extremely thorough and made sure I knew all the possibilities that could potentially happen based on the placement I chose, which I'd never had an artist tell me before. So once again I was beyond impressed and thankful. He and all the other artists were also just generally very friendly, and it very much felt like a tattoo community as they discussed different techniques and showed them as they did it in different clients which was fun! The parlor itself too was clean and all that good stuff! I've already recommended Fred to like all of my friends, so I imagine he's going to have a huge waitlist soon, so get in while you can!!

I'm not a cookie-cutter person, and I don't want a cookie-cutter, pulled-from-a-book design. I wanted a "creation" by someone who might be interested in who I am and could guide me in my creative pursuit. I was directed to Dia by Carl Grace at the Boston Tattoo Convention 2013. Since then, in the last 4 months, Dia's created (2) totally unique works of art on my body. I couldn't be happier with them! The first, a large, abstract watercolor shoulder piece, was a truly creative experience. Neither Dia nor I knew what it would look like until it was done. It gradually evolved as she began to add color in dramatic, broad strokes and in interesting, dripping "moments" running down my arm, back, and chest. Healing was quick and easy only a little scabbing. The second is a hand-sized realistic-looking botanical peach on my hip. My first tattoo, done just before my 20th high school reunion, was a quarter-sized traditional (black-outlined) peach. Dia's larger, brighter cover-up was beautifully executed and is completely healed - only 3 weeks 4 weeks later. I can't WAIT for my next Dia-tattoo! Dia's talent is incredible, and her reputation is growing locally, nationally and even internationally. If you want a truly beautiful and unique work of body art, make your appointment now. Currently, she is booking 2-3 months in advance.

Loved him for the cubist work he does and now I love him even more for how original my tattoo is. I came in with an idea of what I wanted and when it came time for me to actually tattoo, Dave exceeded my expectations in design. It was so dope. During the session, we watched two movies on the huge projectors in the shop. We were in a temp space, I think, as they were renovating the main place. Either way, everyone I interacted with was super kind, really funny, and just all around great people. I left kind of sad as we had spent 4 hours pretty much kickin it while I got my tat. Looking forward to get more work done here with Dave! --------------------- Don't really know about the tattoos, but my piercing experience was great! I felt the need to get a nose piercing and found Pino Bros through Yelp. I walked in and it was pretty busy, but I immediately was greeted by someone at the front and was taken care of (already impressed). The guy that greeted me told me that it would only be a few minutes because someone was ahead of me which was fine. I didn't mind. I only waited maybe 8 minutes until Aaron walked up to me and introduced himself. He immediately made me feel comfortable and I knew it was going to be a great experience. Aaron walked me through everything and made me feel at ease. Super sweet guy. Everyone there is pretty nice and I would highly recommend!

Marina was running the shop herself and took care of 3 clients in a short period of time without rushing. she was super kind and helpful even though i didn't get my piercing here. she let me know my options and i chose to replace the bottom disc of a floating naval with a ball since the disc was digging into me. after she replaced the disc, i nearly immediately started feeling better. the disc had swollen the area around my naval, but the ball nearly immediately settled it. the bar already seems much longer due to the swelling going down after about 14 hours. she was patient, helpful and caring. i appreciate that she cared about my healing more than the place i got the piercing done from! and i love her pink gloves and matching supplies. comfortable waiting room, piercing room, good vibes. i love that they separated the piercing and tattoo sections. wonderful customer service. thank you for not treating clients like a burden.

I came in with clear ideas and references, but very little of what I asked for was actually incorporated into the final piece. What's most frustrating is the apparent lack of effort. When I compare my tattoo to other work he has done, the difference in quality and attention to detail is hard to ignore. My piece feels rushed and poorly executed, with minimal care taken to match the concept we had planned. Getting a tattoo is a permanent and personal decision, so it's important to feel heard and confident in your artist. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience here. I would strongly recommend that others carefully review his work and ensure clear communication before committing. Also, he admitted to me that he has been drunk while doing other clients work in the past and had alcohol at his station in the shop. That begs the question if he was drunk while doing mine.
