So first things first, I made an appointment to come get a tattoo back in April for October I think. I had to reschedule twice because I was starting a new job and didn't have the money. Idiot me. I think at the beginning of November I called to make an appointment for November 22nd and this time I stuck with it. I went on Saturday at 2 pm and had my appointment with Tiffany. What an amazing experience it was. First off the logo is catchy as fuck. The shop is small but also really good size. The receptionist was quite pleasant. Then I met my artist Tiffany. So gosh darn talented. I was originally going to get 4 words but instead got 2. I wanted a really cool design for the words so I was doing some research and Tiffany had some cool cursive font on her instagram that I think would pop out. She worked with me on the size of the tattoo and the color and everything. Then it came time for the tattoo. I was so nervous but she gave me a pillow to lay my head on and that helped and then she went to work. She chatted with me through the whole thing and she took her time to. The chatting helped to distract me from the uncomfortableness of the tattoo. They also were very good with letting me know about aftercare instructions which was huge. Btw Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban was playing when I went in which was amazing. Honestly everything went amazing. It was such a welcoming place. Will be back for future tattoos. Walked in and they had a cancellation so Mike took me. Mike cut my hair and we had a great time talking about our childhood very similar fathers that had values and tought us life leassons. Edit 2: I think this business did a really good job responding to this review so I'm upping it by a star. This might have been a case of a single barbers mistake and not reflective of the business as a whole. I know that the people I talked to communicated to the barber that I wanted a long cut, I heard them specifically say it. They did give me a refund and recommended a particular barber who does long hair. I will give here a second chance when my hair needs a trim and might update it based on that experience EDIT: just worth leading with this, the business owner reached out to me very quickly and was great about listening to my concerns and doing anything he can to help. I think he is genuinely trying to run a great business. Take my review with a grain of salt, I can only mention my experience, and it might have been fixed. Original review: TL;DR: came in with long hair looking for a trim and got WAY too much cut off, probably 6+ inches when I said no more than 1/2 an inch trim. I'm a guy with longer hair (see attached picture). Saw the reviews of this place and they were positive. I walk in and ask if anyone can do longer hair styles. One stylist is available, and I say I want a trim and show a reference photo, which was orlando bloom when he had longer hair (attached). It was a bit shorter than mine so was expecting a trim and a style. She took a really quick glance at it, nodded, then put some ties in my hair, turned the chair away from the mirror, and started cutting. I felt like something was amiss when she was cutting hair close to my earrings, which meant she was probably taking a lot off. I figured it was just styling or something and that she's an expert She turned around the chair and... oh my god. All my hair was gone. I was in shock at first. I thought she might need to undo some of the pins she initially put in and I'd see the rest of my hair. Nope. My hair was GONE I'm really livid about this because I have slow growing hair so 2 years of progress was just GONE. Also I made a pretty big deal about needing someone who can do long hair. I really, really, really hate how I look with any short hair style. It kinda felt like she didn't even look at my reference photo, and just chose a hairstyle for me? I'm not sure I see any similarity between my haircut and the reference photo. At other places I went, they would clarify how much I want taken off, but didn't hear anything from her. I've attached the before and after and reference photo, I actually feel like I looked closer BEFORE I got a hair cut At this point, I would have rather just have gotten a buzzcut. I won't look good with any short hairstyle anyway, so might as well have a practical one. All in all, not just disappointed but actually upset it came out the way it did Anyway... I bought $200 worth of product to regrow my hair and a beanie and I'll be wearing that until I see regrowth. Boxing is a PITA because I can't tie my hair up anymore, which is honestly infuriating. I was so happy when my hair originally reached a length where I could tie it up I'm giving it two stars because other people (with short hair) looked sharp when they finished. A friend of mine goes here and has short hair and his haircut always looks great for him. Unfortunately, short hair will never work on me. read more

I think I *finally* understand the power a haircut has on someone's confidence. Well, for me it's been pretty much the same cut for 25 years. I wanted to try something new, and I had a date that afternoon/evening (stay tuned till the end if you're curious. While there was no dearth of business that Saturday morning, the wait wasn't nearly as bad as I feared, probably just about 30 minutes, but don't quote me on this. They have a small coffee bar (in which I did not partake on this occasion) and two levels, as it turns out. Hair-wise I have very thick and curly hair which grew surprisingly long in three months. Gelling it back around the sides and back is a little tricky, and tapers are all the rage, so I decided to taper the sides, and leave the top as is (styled back). I also had a bit of a beard growing, and wanted to bring back the goatee. I think the barber who took care of me was Anthony. He worked quickly but carefully to give me a haircut that looked great and was even. I'm also quite ticklish, so huge points for not making me tense up too bad (probably 95% me, but still a plus). Styling on my hair was also looked great, and not a simple slicked back look (not that there's anything wrong with that). The shave was also nice and crisp, with attention to the finer details! Anthony also took the time to make sure it was even. I've since had my goatee trimmed elsewhere, and they left it just uneven enough on the sides to bug me. To be fair, it wasn't the most comfortable straight shave I've ever had, but that one took a lot of time and equipment above a razor and hot lather machine. After all of this, I expected to (and was ready) to pay a pretty penny. I was pleasantly surprised that their rates were quite reasonable, especially considering the location. The real test came later in the day... the date. Don't get all excited, the girl met was very nice, sweet, and had a great heart, but I didn't really feel a connection. Don't leave yet! Later in the evening I went to dinner and was sitting at the bar... and a gorgeous woman sat down next to me! She was from far away, but that didn't stop us chatting for a bit while enjoying our food and drinks. While I went home alone, I had a renewed sense of confidence, one that was more needed than I care to admit. It is the hair, I like to think so! read more

Oh so much to say. Came to the shop from Portland, Maine. The staff at both the barber shop and the tattoo shop were super friendly, even during my wait for the tattoo shop to open. Had staff calming my nerves outside with fun banter. Now to the tattoo experience. Dan Sanchez was super accommodating and a great artist and I had the best tattoo experience I have ever had. The other artists and staff also were great, engaging in conversation, and made the long session go by without added stress. One suggestion if possible, 3x shirts for the heavyweights. I utilize North End's Boston Barber & Tattoo Co. and I love it. I get hair cuts there and beard trims. It's super nice to be able to walk in the North end and its very conveniently located. The appointment and cancelation policy is definitely reasonable. I always have good conversations there and the barbers are talented and provide good advice. It's also nice to get an espresso or a cup of coffee while I'm in there. Brennan is my barber there! Then go upstairs and a get a tattoo! I have got both walk-in tattoos there and I have also got consultative scheduled tattoos and I couldn't be happier with the work. It's good vibes in here. My artist was really good at listening to my ideas and adding his artistic feedback to it and making suggestions that were in no way pushy. I would go over pictures with him that I found on google and also I even would draw some stuff (my drawings suck). I never had white ink before and that was a recommendation that I'm very happy with. He does not deserve your business. Boston Barber refused to cut my hair because I'm a woman. It was the middle of the pandemic and I hadn't had my hair cut for a year, but all I wanted was a bang trim so I could see. I stopped by and asked if I could get an appointment and the barber told me "we're not licensed to cut women's hair." This is absolute BS -- you don't need a separate license. So thanks, Boston Barber, for being such a great neighbor during difficult times. Edit: I've now received 4 or 5 messages from the owner, Robert. He admits they tell women they're not licensed to cut women's hair because it's easier to lie than to explain they don't know how to cut wonen's hair. Then for four more texts he insulted me and made random accusations. I would change my review if I were wrong. But my experience with Robert, the owner, has solidified my view that this Boston Barber does not deserve your business. And if you're a woman, they probably wouldn't want it anyway. Edit 2: more messages from Robert. They're getting creepy. Edit 3: You really think you can insult me by calling me fat? Lol. This just proves you talked to the employee I talked to. It is an interesting respite from the famed stand-offish mien of the city. That bonhomie extends into BBTC where I showed up last evening towards the tail-end of an excremental day rounded with very little sleep and acrid resentment of things largely beyond my control, but that is another post for another platform. To return to the matter at hand, however: the convivial ambience of BBTC was instantly revivifying. My stylist's name was Cap, an affable gentleman exuding an ursine warmth and a connate dexterity with clippers and scissors. You'd think those implements were an extension of his very person. As he clipped, sheared, snipped and styled, I felt like I was being sculpted and burnished into handsomeness. As an added bonus, our conversation was easy and organic. The haircut was, of course, spectacular. It was precisely what I desired. I have a jawline again. Needed to find a new spot where the barbers were actually knowledgeable about cutting hair and the best way to go about styling/grooming it. This is the place. Classic kind of barbershop where everyone is phenomenal and can hold a conversation with the other people in the shop without losing focus. The first thing Ricky did when I sat down was tell me to stop using crappy hairspray--then he showed me how to correctly gauge where to part my hair every day and how to do it. He also advised against shaving a line into my hair part, which is what I used to do. Bottom Line.: The haircut was flawless. He cut it right to the length of the picture I showed him. Additionally, the cost is very reasonable. If you get uppity about loud talking or yelling, probably not your scene--but you're getting your haircut in the Northend; what did you expect... My dude Nick is a master. Having recently moved to Boston and desperate for a haircut over the weekend, I took to Yelp to find a shop. Boston Barber had one singular spot left which I reserved immediately. Came to the shop (very cool and old school vibe) and got cut by Nick. Nick had a very soft touch (no cuts or nicks, pun intended) and was very meticulous with his work and we had a dope conversation throughout the entire process. I'm out of town in business and wanted to get a tattoo from this place. They lady Emily told me I would need a 100$ deposit. I really don't understand how this is business. I made an appointment 8 days ago, but was told that there was a different person that day. I was walking by this place with my fiance and I told him that maybe he should go in there and get the haircut he has been talking about getting for the last few months. we didn't have an appointment but they accepted walk-ins and we only had to wait around 15-20 minutes for the other two or three customers to finish. Everyone there ended up with amazing haircuts and I really liked the haircut they gave my fiance as well. He finished pretty fast, and they even sculpted his beard and used an old fashioned blade. I've gotten tattooed here twice and have to say it's been one of the most pleasant experiences from start to finish. I always send an email with my tattoo idea and which artist I would like and within a few days, they get back to me and ask that I call the shop to schedule my appointment. It's easy and very organized. Both times I have been in I have been tattooed by Cat and she's typically booked out far in advance, but even so I haven't experienced any issues once I show up for my appointment a few months later. I have to give kudos to the woman that works the front desk for the tattoo shop she is always super friendly and professional! And of course, I have to say Cat is amazing. Her work is awesome, she is incredibly professional, and she makes the whole tattooing experience excellent. Very decent place to get your hair cut. I think they do a great job doing what you as them to, good experience every time I went. They also have appointments available on short notice. Would have given 5 starts, but for some reason I feel like I need trim faster than after going to most other places, so maybe they don't clean up the neck as well. Would definitely recommend it though, have had various people cutting my hair and their standard is very high. Covid protocol is very good, you wait outside until it's your turn, so very little exposure. read more
