What Eugene's airport lacks in size, it makes up for all of the usual things airports should be graded on - convenience, amenities, flight punctuality, service, and facilities. No one should go into this airport expecting more than what is necessary to keep this place running. Let's start with the obvious - parking is almost always awesome. The rates aren't back breaking (as they shouldn't be!), there is free short term parking, and there are plenty of spaces. The airport is small enough to where there are just enough shuttles and rental car companies available to get one to and from the airport. On the inside, the place is clean like it's northern PDX brother. This includes the bathrooms, baggage claim, etc. The general ambiance is quiet, which makes a difference for those of us who are used to busy and chaotic airport scenes. EUG is a nice change of pace. There are two eateries in the airport now and while that might be laughable, consider that the flights that come in here from PDX or SFO are limited at best. The people coming through probably want nothing more than get in and get out. Finally, flying out of Eugene is a breeze. Most flights are charter flights, small planes that connect with larger airports. EUG is constantly going to SFO or SEA and getting to and from the plane is a cinch because security is lax, there are no major terminals, serious delays, or issues that tend to affect other airports. read more

Small airports are def tricky to review, especially if you are use to flying into bigger ones. PROS; -For car rental drop off you literally park in front of the airport, no outside facility with shuttle service. Then you walk inside and drop off keys (or in outside lock box if after hours). -Staff is very friendly! -Food (breakfast and coffee) was really good as it is not a big chain running the joint. CONS; and the reason they don't get 5 stars - RUG!!! I'm petite size and struggle so much strolling my carry on + a bag through endless paths of rugs. I'm not going to lie my bag usually weighs as much as a carry on... but I still hate airport rugs! read more

I've been here so many times. It's a small airport which is now flying out delta and United flight which I think is great, but it's still a small airport, don't expect too much from them, but I can say the TSA agents are nicer than big city airports (same professionalism), not too far to walk to your gate and easy to get to when your in Eugene. read more

Great airport and easy to use! If that's all you get from this review, that is it. They just moved the TSA Baggage Area to the back and out of the way which really opened up the front. Speaking of the TSA (FYI, they DO NOT work for the Airport), they have been real friendly the last couple of times flying out, so no complaints there. The neat thing about the Airport is how close you can park to the terminal and get in or out of the parking area and through the toll area. This airport is super small, so it makes flying in and out of here easy. I used the app for Alligent air lines and checked in online, they scanned it checked my ID. Short lines, just the basics! I had to take off my shoes and had a pretty security guard pat me down and swipe my hands for residue of any of the illegal kind. Lol There's a small cafe with Artisan pizzas, coffee etc. And a small gift shop with a clearance section! read more

Unfortunately this is the only airport closed to us. It is a small and it only has a few major airlines flying in and out. Since the remodel you do everything pretty much on your own as far as check out and tagging your bags which is fine with me. The problem that I have is every single flight and I fly a lot always has a plane with mechanical issues and it delays our connecting flights. I think out of the 100 times I flew out of this airline I maybe had 29 flights not delayed. Nothing is fun about sitting in the airport with a infant for 7 hours until they finally suggest you get a diverted flight for the morning. I think the communication between the counter agents and the other airlines need to be help promptly so people can make adequate time for change. And don't get me wrong bad weather obviously is out of our control but when there is perfect flying conditions as the flight still gets delayed it's a nightmare for all. Best thing to do is fly out of the bigger hub like Portland or try to find a straight flight. read more

Gosh. I love small airports, because I love efficiency! It's so nice to just show up at the airport, stroll through TSA, and walk 5 mins to your gate. I've flown out of here several times and have never had problems. Their long-term parking is only $10/day and their facility is super clean. I'm not a fan of their limited food choices, but that's the least of my problems. The employees have always been super nice and helpful. Tip: The later you travel, the less traffic you're going to deal with. The majority of flights at the Eugene Airport take off earlier in the morning. read more

This is a really, really small airport. Access to check in and security you can typically pull up to the door and drop somebody off. Literally no waiting! TSA pre-check not really necessary at this airport. Both times I have been through I have been able to walk straight up to the security check in agent and get straight through. The security team has been friendly both times and make sure that you have got everything out of your carry on bags and pockets before sending you through the walk through scanner. Once you are through security, no worries about trying to figure out where to go. A small, but well supplied store and a smoothie café lead you to the section with gates. Less than 10 gates total its about as easy as it gets ti figure out where you need to be to catch your flight. If you are arriving, the car rental places are located in the airport right next to baggage claim. Quick and easy to work with I had my car before my bags were off loaded. So nice that this process is so simple after a long day of travel. Car's are located just outside the main entrance of the airport. About my only negative would be that there isn't a cover over the parking area and they have been known to get some rain from time to time. So be prepared to get a little wet if you're going hunting for your rental. Overall great experience and more than happy to travel through this destination in the future. read more

This is a petty review, but I think it's important. I briefly visited the airport today to pickup some family that were grabbing their bags when I pulled up to baggage claim. There were no vehicles in the pickup zone. Despite seeing the "no parking" signs, I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to wait two minutes for them to walk out. If there were more vehicles coming, I'd have no problem moving. However, an airport officer (???) immediately walked up to my car and told me that I would need to circle the block. I'm sorry, but that is absolutely a horrible visitor experience. I understand the reverse situation where cars start piling up, but there is a thing called common sense that could have been exercised in this situation. Shame on the more expensive, "convenient", and local airport. read more

Experienced the most infuriating travel day at the Eugene airport. We sat on the runway for over THREE HOURS waiting on a mechanic to add "fluid" to our plane. Couldn't find the seemingly ONE mechanic that works at the Eugene airport- also the sheer lack of urgency was astounding. After that, the plane needed to be de-iced from sitting idle at the gate for so long. The pilot comes on the overhead speaker, "Sorry, wish I had better news but we can't find any crew to de-ice the plane." Another hour goes by, crew decided to show up, then the pilot comes back on AGAIN saying that he called 45 minutes prior for crew members to direct us from the gate, but nobody has showed up. He asked the de-icing crew members to go walk around the runway and look for them. At this point, everyone on the plane becomes hostile, people are yelling, flight attends are yelling, and the entire plane missed their connecting flights. I couldn't dream up a worse experience, unless of course, the plane crashed. Which at the time, I wasn't ruling out the possibility of that given the absurdity of the situation and lack of competent airline/airport employees. read more

Flew in here for the first time this week. While definitely a bit dated (at least compared to SFO Terminal 2 or similar terminals), flying in and out of Eugene Airport was fast, efficient and easy. I flew in the early afternoon when it was relatively quiet, so security was no problem, but I could imagine the morning and evening rushes could get a bit busy as the security area was relatively small. The top highlight was definitely the Marionberry Gummy Grizzlies at the gift shop -- by far the most flavorful gummy bears I've ever had! read more

Airports are tricky in my opinion to review. There are several companies inside any airport and your experience with any of them can skewer your view the airport as a whole. That being said, I've flown out of Eugene many times and I have yet to have a bad experience with anything that would be strictly the airport's issue to contend with. For me the parking is easy to find and get to and not too far from any of the terminals. Eugene airport also isn't too picky about drop offs and pick ups as many other airports. The longest I have ever waited in the TSA line is 20 minutes. It is usually 10 minutes or so. I've found the TSA group to always be professional and not make feel foolish for forgetting to remove my belt or empty my pockets (yeah, I forgot to take my keys and my wallet out of my pockets as I tried to enter the stand-up scanner. *sigh*). I've never had an issue going through there. It is simple to navigate around the airport due to its small size. It doesn't take long to get anywhere you need to go. There are not a lot of choices for food beyond the checkpoint -- although there are some reasonable options for things to drink. The best part about coming to the Eugene Airport is that after you arrive, especially from a long flight, you are likely to be outside and in your car/ride in just a few minutes. At larger airports you can wander around for 10 minutes just trying to figure out where your luggage is coming out or where the street is. I know that once I get off the plane I will be home very soon and that is a great relief. I personally enjoy flying out of Eugene and especially enjoy arriving home to this airport. read more

I flew in and out of EUG for a weekend trip and to be quite honest this airport's simplicity was the easiest part of my trip. Upon getting off of the flight, I had to pick up a rental which was super simple as the rental check-out counters was right at the exit and lacked congestion. Therefore, after exiting my flight, I spent no more than 15 min. in the airport. THAT'S a first. There were plenty of friendly taxi cab drivers outside the airport whom offered wonderful overview's of Eugene, as well as rates considering Uber and Lyft do not exist in Eugene, yet. The most surprising part was arriving for my return flight 2 hours early only to realize that I should've showed up 20 min before. It was midday and the place was dead. You never have to worry about congestion here. There were two people in front of me at check-in, which went quickly and TSA felt nothing like TSA, as I seemed to walk up, briefly be patted down and then released for my flight. I felt ridiculous trying to make EUG's small airport into a 2 hr adventure. Regardless, lesson learned. And lastly, boarding was unique and went quickly. Even though the emptiness threw me off a bit, I love this airport's simplicity and calmness. I will be skipping the 2 1/2 hr drive from Portland from now on! read more

This is a really small and quaint airport. Everything is close, from check in to security to rental cars. It reminds me a lot of Lexington, Kentucky's own Blue Grass Airport. They have a piano available to play for any traveling guests, a lot like San Jose's Mineta Airport. The size makes this airport a desirable destination because it is not overly crowded and too busy. When we went through TSA, the officer gave my 15 month old son a TSA mini-officer sticker. He was tickled by it and it gave him something to play with. I have flown in and out of here 20 times so far and have never had a problem. Twice, I parked my car there. My experience has been with Alaska/Horizon 18 of the 20 times (Delta was for the other two). Easy checking in of bags, easy TSA, friendly gate agents, very expedient, and the airport is extremely clean! The only small complaint I have is that the baggage claim area oftentimes displays the wrong flight on the carousel. It's happened a few times where several of us have waited at the carousel indicated for the flight we were on only to be told the bags are on the other carousel. There are only two so it's no big deal lol. But, at a small airport, how hard is it to have the display accurate? Lol! read more

Great little airport! As someone who flies a lot I'm always darting around looking for TSA pre-check lines. I could be wrong but I don't think they have a separate line here? Either that or I missed it - but it didn't matter because there was actually no line at all! I walked through security in under a minute. Offerings at the airport are slim so I suggest eating or shopping before getting there. It's a little remote and the terminal is actually just one whole building so it's easy to navigate and walk through. But being that it's that small, you could wind up disappointed if you arrived hungry and looking for food. I did spy a few vending machines though! Staff was extremely pleasant. Probably the best TSA encounter I've ever had! Flights leave on time too. read more

Well, I'm used to LAX - so going to this non-crowded airport earns it some stars right away. Also, instead of "RECHARGING STATION"'s, aka 4 lousy plugs every mile or so in LAX, every seat at the gate had an accompanying plug beneath it - GENIUS! However, there are only 2 Gates (too small) and EXTREMELY limited options for food and/or shopping. The flights were delayed, but thats not the airport's fault. The staff was both friendly and not - or maybe my experience with the "not" was a miscommunication. Basically, I gave a "Thumbs up" to a couple who decided to opt-out of the new imaging/scanning machine instead for the medal detector and a pat down. (I enjoy when people stand up for what they believe in, rather than fall in line like sheep) The security agent then looked at me and said, "We can pat you down too if you'd like." ... maybe he was joking? To me it came off kind of rude and threatening. I could have been wrong. All in all...its an airport. *shrug* read more

Currently at Eugene Airport due to a layover. Why the five stars? Simple... FREE WIFI. You don't need to sign up for anything, but just click on the acknowledgment page not to do any bad things online. Ooohhh... did I mention that there are OUTLETS everywhere??? Score! Unlike the many airports I've been at, I didn't have to fight anyone for a place to power up! Small and intimate airport with a friendly staff (that I encountered thus far). I gotta say something. This was the first Airport I ever flew into, and it was a place of wonder, mystery, and awe. Now it's just a place of Mystery. The lines are pretty short into security, but it doesn't matter; it takes longer to get through here than it does JFK, because the agents. are. so. slow. Food. there isn't any, except for a couple of cafes. Probably can't hold it against them though, as it's a tiny airport without many flights. Flights. Only Horizon serves a direct to Seattle. The people? It's why I go with two stars. Whenever I fly out of there, which has been fairly often because I'm from California and I go to the University of Oregon, I never have to wait in a line for security. I wish there was better food options there though cause I really only see that one small cafe place which I wish offered more things to eat before a flight. The only complaint that I have is that it is way more expensive than flying out of Portland. This airport is pretty average but it's nice because it's quick and no one is ever there. read more

This is one of the simplest and most streamlined airports you will ever fly into and out of. It's like a neighborhood airport. One way in and one way out. Easy. Almost never crowded, c'mon it's Eugene! Once outside and that crisp clean Eugene air hits you. Ahhh. I always liked looking at the "flying people" as you walked down the hallway to the gates. It always seemed to get people smiling or interested in it. Not too much to do outside of that. I think they have less than a handful of places to eat and buy your last stuffs to take home. The staff there is overall pretty friendly. It usually is a bit more expensive than flying out of Portland's PDX though. For me, my time is money and I'd rather pay than hike it up to PDX. Especially if I had to take a bus, ugh! Students, if you take a taxi from here to UO, which I had done plenty of times, it's usually a rip-off. For some reason every time I took a taxi from there the cost varied every single time. To me they seem to prey on the unsuspecting students. Very suspicious to me. If you can, have someone pick you up or drop you off. read more

Is it nirvana? Well, no. Not at all, really. But, as far as airports go, it truly is as good as it gets. The free wi-fi pushes my rating to the top. Some travel tips: 1. Don't fly out on the early Monday am flights. It's a nightmare. Because the rest of the travel times are so sparsely populated, the EUG staff must just not know how to hang with the early am business. Forget about this airport's size, if you're flying at 6:30a Monday, and have a bag to check, you'd better be in line at 5. No pushing it. Even if you're like me, check-in the night before and carry-on, be warned that the security line will snake past the restrooms at baggage claim. For realz. 2. Don't count on getting food here. Eat before hand. Probably because no one "flies through" Eugene on a layover, this airport isn't equipped to provide good noshing. If you're desperate, I suggest a cocktail at Wings before you pass through security and then a snack at Avolare upstairs. 3. Enjoy the relative quiet. Wherever you fly from here is most likely going to be much more chaotic and frenzied. Take this opportunity to fill your lungs with some semi-fresh air, find a comfortable seat with a bit of room on either side of you, and relax. Oh, and as Lee W. notes, make sure to fill your water bottle upstairs, by the vending machines. read more

The Eugene Airport is a piece of hippie/hipster bliss in the countryside. There's only one concourse, so there's no confusion. Long-term and short-term parking are easy to find. The gift shop has Pacific Northwest-themed goodies. There's only one baggage claim. It's easy to find people here, because there's only one exit. While waiting, one can take a pleasant walk outdoors. It has a pastoral setting. Other than the Albuquerque Sunport, it's one of the best smallest airports in the US. Good things DO come in small packages! read more

There's something to be said about small airports. More often than not, the cleanliness, customer service and organization is much better than what the average traveler can expect to receive in major international airports. With the exception of early Monday departure times, coming or going from Eugene can be relaxed and relatively hassle free (unless you misplace your picture ID). One can usually get by with arriving less than an hour ahead of time without worry. Check in is never a long wait, security is actually conducted by decent and personable employees, and the single terminal ensures you will not get lost or confused. Clean areas to sit and wait, watch CNN, utilize the free wi-fi or enjoy the view of evergreen hills and farmland. On the flipside, as has been mentioned before me, dining and shopping options are limited. There's also a good chance of arriving in a much smaller aircraft if making a connection in a bigger city. WARNING! If you are flying into this airport with checked luggage, try to fly either very early in the morning or late at night. If you fly on a flight that is packed (such as early or late afternoon), then there is a high likelihood that your baggage will not arrive until late that night or early the next morning.
