We happened upon this great little bakery and discovered Burek. We had the delicious potatoes and onion! We will be back!!

Tried European Bakery today via Uber Eats. So glad we did! Enjoyed the meat burek & spinach burek. The pastry is so tasty. A slice is 1/4 of 12"pizza slice!! Worth the $$! Bought a whole loaf of wheat bread, sliced thin. Tried the following desserts: Carrot Cake - it's ok, has nuts Sheqer Pare - reminds me of a less sweet gulab jamun or Indian honey ball Krem Pita - nice and pleasant cake with vanilla cream, has a thick wafer on top and bottom of the cake We ordered one more dessert- Apple Strudel - will taste tomorrow. The bakery also added one extra dessert for free! - yellow- unsure what it is. Tomorrow we will find out. Love the burek and Sheqer Pare! Give it a try. read more

Small, quaint bakery with staff who are always willing to help. Bread and bakery selections tasty but limited. Had their meat Burek which was good. Have not tried their other menu items but would go back no problem to try more. Their breads are delicious. Always fresh! Coffee was nothing special and could be improved. read more

Let me start off with Parking, it is small and tight when parking so heads up. Came in when they were about closing, but was able to grab a few desserts. We got the krem pita, tarimisu, and coconut. The desserts were ok, tasted a bit bland, maybe I'm just used to a little sweetness to cakes, but still edible. Burek is good, although it would've been nice if it was fresh. Flavourless lumps of pretend dried out cake that at the best of times you wouldn't want but in a pinch can be use as house insulation.

This place has the best Balkan food we have had in Canada and USA. The Bureks are make fresh, very crispy and flavorful. We tried the bureks with meat, cheese and spinach and all were just amazing! The salt stick was great, has that Balkan bakery taste. The lepine with kajmak were out of this world good. The owner is very chatty, very engaged with all of his customers! This is my favourite bakery in Calgary. The staff and owners are lovely, and the burek is amazing, must try!

Have you ever been kicked out of an online store? You didn't? Well, I am! I didn't even know it was possible! Since I lost my leg, I also lost the ability to move around, so 98% of my needs are done online. It happened that I could no longer go personally to my favourite bakery "European Bakery & Deli" so I would order burek, cevapi, bread and desserts via Uber. Lately, I haven't sent orders as often as when I used to go in person to the bakery. Just to mention that in those situations I just didn't leave a little (change) of money there. As they also carry other products from my country, I of course bought more than just bakery products. Today, as before, I ordered cevapi and buns. Quite hungry, I wanted to see why I was waiting so long and found a message "that I called the bakery and cancelled". As this is untrue, I called to see what it was all about. I think I know who answered me. After finding out what I was inquiring about, she just disappeared. Didn't even say "Please hold a minute" Finally a young female came back to the phone. She coldly informed me that they would not accept my orders in the future because they could not satisfy my taste. When asked where they got that from, she said that they saw it from the critics on the Uber page (thumbs up or down). True, they have a few negative reviews (not all). The fact is that they changed the way they make burek, so now it is no longer as crispy as it used to be but made with a thicker dough. In addition, it usually gets here - cold. Likewise, my favourite cake was not fresh, so I did not order it again. All this does not mean that I do not like their products and that they are not good. I was just about to send a larger order via text (which would then be delivered to me after the store closed, as before), but now that I've been kicked out, of course, I won't do that. Not now, not ever! In conclusion: if you don't like the food you ordered from "European Bakery & Deli", don't give it a "thumbs down"! You might find yourself kicked out of the store! Like I am! Visited on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm for a snack. Ordered a slice of meat burek. There's also 3 other flavours to choose from. The bread was a light flaky croissant crust with a pillowy bread interior. The meat was flavourful and the boys devoured it. A slice is $5. Which is cut into 2 pieces so perfect for sharing. I also had a half order of the sausages in a bun called chevap. The meat is very tender but not heavily spiced. The mini sausages and the hot, soft bread were yummy! It's a nice change from meat skewers in pita bread. I'd definitely return for either item and perhaps try some jams or spreads. I'm not close to this area and we made a special trip to visit this shop. So glad we did! The owners are from Albania and the lady who served us was very helpful. They also sell Romanian groceries and other items from that region. The store also had an assortment of breads from eye, sourdough, pretzels, cheese bites etc. Way to go!!! Do note they have limited parking spots as they're on 17 Ave and limited seating. It's basically a counter. Sorry no pics fellow Yelpers! Simple, DELICIOUS, no fuss bakery. The service is always impeccable, the Burek's and bread are amazing, and the price is always right. When I stumbled upon this place it made my day, and I have continued to go back weekly for my freshly baked loaf. They also have a cabinet of amazing looking "breakup desserts", that would surely cure any broken heart just by looking at them. i love this place! took my coworkers here to introduce them to their first Burek, and it was a hit! such a cute little deli, and the lady working in the front is so sweet! she saw that my friends had never tried Burek before, so she cut up a few little pieces for them to try! so nice! We got a potato one, and a spinach & cheese one, and they were both so delicous! the potato one tastes like a giant perogy. I've also had fresh bread & buns from there, and i've always been impressed. I have a weird condiment obsession, and this place never fails to have some sort of mustard or pickled stuff that i've never tried, as well as tons of different European candies and sweets! definitely a hidden gem on 17th Ave SW! read more

This bakery is small, has parking but has amazing prices for bread and for pastries. The portions are huge here and you aren't paying more than $3 or $4 for any of amazing assortments; lemon poppy seed, crème horns, hazelnut pound, apple strudel, apple cheesecake , lemon coconut, baklava triangle, strawberry mouse, apple cheesecake, and rum ball. For loaves of bread, there is onion rye, whole wheat, pumpernickel, light rye, arctic bread, French bread, sourdough, organic bread, and baguettes amongst many others. You have competition though; there was a huge line up when I was there, so thank god they have free parking outside. read more

This place is fantastic! The young lady at the counter was so friendly and helpful. We went to the Balkans last summer and are in town visiting from Texas. I can tell you the borek (burek) here is top notch, as is the cevap. It is as good or better than what we had last year. And the bread on the cevap was yummy too. One word, burek (specifically, sirnica if you are familiar with Bosnian dishes). Burek, or sirnica, is a filled pastry usually containing beef, cottage cheese, or spinach and cheese. Some variations contain all of the above, some only one, and some have other ingredients. European Bakery & Deli has the cottage cheese & feta variety. Of course, that's not all they have. They are also a bakery, and sell all kinds of delicious and freshly prepared deserts and breads. In addition to this, they have a limited selection of European foods, chocolates, and drinks. Generally a well rounded small European bakery. But they really excel with the sirnica. They serve it from a pizza warmer that you'll find at any pizzeria. But make no mistake, it's not pizza. It's one of the best European dishes I've ever had and they prepare it really well here. You can also follow it up with one of their deserts, all of which taste delicious. I was introduced to the Burek from here by a coworker and had added it to thinks to check out on 17th when I'm down there. Sadly I forgot until I was trying to escape the heat and crowds of the year's lilac festival. This little places has a poor street presence and signage so I would have missed it if I'd never heard of it and wasn't on foot. It feels like you have to go into a condo complex to get at it almost (weird). Inside I was struck by how much Burek they gave me for a fairly low cost (I forget to be honest) At first I wasn't sure I could eat a 1/4 of the pie they handed me but after tasting it again I made short work of it. I've only tried the cottage cheese and feta but it's to die for. I'd love to try out some more of their offerings next trip. I'm very glad the lilac fest vendors had huge lines and I ended up finding this place's location as I will make an effort to return again. read more

We ordered the twelve days of Christmas meals for 125.00 and was very disappointed the picture makes it look like a good size we got it home and opened they where so small it was terrible I sure hope they don't sell a lot of these to seniors because they sure not worth the money read more

Great bread, tasty baked goods, plus a nice selection of assorted European grocery items and candy. My closest location for real Habiro gummy bears! They also carry a brand of herbal teas that I have been buying for decades but cannot find in many grocery stores. Plus very friendly and attentive service. What more can you ask for? You know what? They'd still be great even if they ONLY had that amazing bread. YUM!!! read more

Pitalka is an absolute bargain and is one of the exquisite breads I've ever had in North America. They're just $1.50 each, freeze beautifully so stock up. They make absolutely amazing burger buns, one of the best I've ever had. read more

Damn... this place is amazing with all its hidden treasures. The ready made burek meat pie is out of this world, as long as you're not on a diet. There are frozen foods to bake at home that are equally as delicious, and their selection of unique desserts is outstanding. I've tried a few and could not be pressed to pick my favorite one, as they're all so different and soooo good. Arranged a tasting for my wife & maid of honor for wedding cake & treats, they were told, they forgot to make the taste samples even after having us confirm the tasting day 48 hours in advance. They then served them frozen & half cooked deserts to taste for our guests treats for the wedding. We since have hired a private baker for our wedding cake & looking for someone else to do our cheese cakes & deserts. Found this 5-star place on Yelp while driving south from Edmonton. I agree with the other ratings wholeheartedly! Their food is simple Albanian but excellent. And the people are lovely, warm and considerate. Would definitely eat here weekly if I lived in Calgary. Their turkey sandwich, meat burek and desserts all impressed us. A tiny bakery with a nice family feel. The owner is a very sweet lady. I go here for great quality bread which costs less than what I pay in the supermarket for homemade bread with natural ingredients. She will even slice your loaf for you. I was searching for a good baklava in Calgary until read about this place. These were the biggest pieces of baklava I have come across and I think my tongue grew an extra inch from trying to lick all the honey dripping down my chin. European Bakery & Deli is my favorite place to go in whole Calgary! I can not decide what I like the most: European groceries ; all different kinds of breads and buns or the warmth and hospitality of the owners. You can buy the best somun in Calgary (kind of pita bread, but much better) usually filled with cevapi (chevapi - kind of no casing sausages made from mixed meat and special spices); you can actually buy delicious frozen cevapi at the store as well..... And burek! Meat, cheese, spinach.....Best ever! I can never decide which one is my favorite! For all who love bread and pastry, this is a must place to go! Here from Dallas Texas looking for something different and we found it. The service was great and the food was better. We both got the Burek and it was delicious. We also tried the apple strudel and a cream horn found them both to be very good. I wish we had room in our luggage for some bread as it all looked and smelled great.
