Montreal smoked meat
MJ L.

Quick Friday lunch. We sat at a booth inside this retro deli. Service was awesome and hubby and I both had the Montreal smoked meat. Lotsa meat that was warm and tasty, not overly salty. I wish the bread was lightly toasted as the heat of the meat softened parts of my sammy which wasn't great. I mean, who wants soggy bread?! The Cole slaw had onions in it but was average for flavour and it came with a pickle. Overall, I'd come again but ask for toasted bread. There are 4 sizes of meat portion to choose from which is perfect for all appetites. I had at traditional cut and hubby had boss cut. They also sell meat by the pound which I may do next time to bring home and make a breakfast bowl with taters and eggs. I think it was $18/lb if I recall correctly. If you are craving smoked meat, give it a try. It'll fill your tummy for sure!

Two fistfuls of juice dripping Montreal smoked meat? YES Fresh thick slices of bread to hold the monster together? YES Awesome selection of mustard flavors? YES So much meat. So much awesome. Then they even throw in chips, coleslaw, and slam it in a basket. Nuff said.

Time for lunch! Chicken pesto sandwich and black cherry cola :)

Oh sandwiches, how do I love thee? There isn't a great deal of selection at Myrhe's Deli, but man can they make a mean sandwich. Earlier this year, I stopped in for a Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich and ordered it to go. It took a few minutes to make it, but then it was packed into a sturdy little box with the coleslaw, some chips and a pickle. I ate it in the park right across the street. It made for a lovely summer lunch! More recently, I stopped in for a Pesto Chicken sandwich. Also delicious, and also served with coleslaw, some chips and a pickle. There's no messing around with the coleslaw either. It's crisp, it's fresh, it's sprinkled with pepper and not slathered in creamy dressing, but rather in a delightful more Italian tasting dressing. Mmm! Stop in for a sandwich, or order yourself a whole pound of Montreal Smoked Meat and make your own!

Terrific montreal smoked meat sandwich. .......and NEW on the menu fries.......thought I was in montreal.......that's how good the food is at Myhre's Deli. The balance of the menu is typical montreal deli fare.....and I plan on trying all of it......

Scozzafava’s Deli - Meatball sandwich & Italian combo sandwich

Now this is how you make a sandwich! There's such a thrill in finding incredible local eats. I'm…read morenot usually a big sandwich person, but a good foodie friend of mine said they heard the hype about Scozzafava's so I went along. No regrets. If you didn't know about this spot, you might easily pass by without a second glance. Scozzafava's serves up authentic, classic Italian sandwiches that just slap. They use a soft sesame seed bun, which probably is the most unique part of the sandwich. For their marinara sandwiches, I wish they used a thicker bun to better absorb all the sauce. The sesame bun didn't keep its integrity, sadly. The meatball marinara was glorious! Slightly spicy, super moist meatballs, slightly sweet marinara, and perfectly paired with bitterness of the rapini. Don't forget the cheese pull! We also grabbed the classic Italian deli, which was scrumptious and very filling. You can't go wrong with either option, in my opinion.

We came to the store to order. and you know the service is top notch. The owner is very friendly and there is a warm ambiance about the place. On to the food, My brother order a chicken parm subs and say his sub was excellent as always. I ended up getting two subs. One was the meatball sub which was exceptional. The meatballs were well seasoned and were larger than my mom made when she was alive. the buns were toasted to perfection crunchy but not burnt. They had just enough sauce and cheese to compliment the sub but not overpower it . i also got a turkey pesto sub which had a lot of meat and cheese. This was very good and if i come back to Calgary i will definitely come back.

But they definitely do it very well. I'm sad we do not have anything like this near our house, but happy to have experienced it here. We were en route back to Calgary from Banff and wanting to grab breakfast before our long flight back to Texas. My wife wanted the basic sandwich with bacon, but I was torn between the Meat Lovers and the Lobster. You know what? Why not both? I loved every bite of both of them and had absolutely no regrets about ordering two. They actually aren't that big, so it wasn't as crazy of an idea as I originally thought. My wife ordered the hash brown concoction, which I wasn't interested in, but actually regretted not adding onto my order too. It was actually a small hash brown sandwich with some kind of deliciousness in the middle. But I guess I had enough food as it were. We had two meals in Calgary - one on the way in before Banff and one on the way out. Both were great, and this one inspired me to one day open an egg sandwich shop in the next chapter of my life. I should do that, right?

So my brother suggested some thing strange a place that did Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I thought this was a bit bizarre because im wondering how place that does peanut butter and jelly survives financially. Here's the thing they do the sandwiches in a panini griller which was a new concept We both got the strawberry jam and peanut butter and i got small tomato soup on line. the sandwiches were very comforting and really good. As for the tomato soup it actually tasted like red pepper soup which was even better given the change in weather Calgary receieved. Acouple of things to note make sure you have napkins for peanut butter and jam as the jam does tend to spurt out of the sandwich but not a big thing also a small soup is more than enough cure any hunger that you might have. All in all a nice way to end day one of the Calgary trip

They offer two fresh soups every day which are clearly not canned and made from scratch. They also offer a different special every day of the week that can be supplemented with a salad or a small soup. These specials range from clubhouse sandwiches, to spring roll on vermicelli, to mac n' cheese (scratch made). One of my go-to places for lunches and as a soup connoisseur they are able to beat out most places by providing homemade soups instead of the typical generic Campbell's stuff you find in most delis. One thing I would like is for them to switch up and try their hand at making other soups because I have been here so many times the soups are getting slightly old (but still tastier and better value than Sunterra) TLDR: Soups good, specials can be good, sandwiches fresh, salad available.
