Outdoor Deck I've…read moreknown Abe Degnan as a personal friend and client for many years so when I had the opportunity to rebuild and expand our deck, Degnan Design-Build-Remodel was my first call! I could handle the update, sanding and sealing of the existing deck on my own, but wanted an expert to change out the railing from wood to black finished metal and replace a 4' stair with a 20' wrap around staircase. The work was completed yesterday and exceeded my expectation in every way! The lead carpenter and his carpenters were amazing, the work was completed on time and on budget, and we are receiving nothing but excellent feedback from neighbors, friends and family.

Even though it's "3 season," we can use it year-round. The wide modern fireplace they recommended heats the entire space in even very cold conditions, and the insulated floor helps maintain a warm surface once heated. It's always a wonderful experience to relax with a cup of coffee next to the warm fireplace while enjoying the expansive view. As you can tell from the pictures in the portfolio, Degnan's craftsmanship and attention to detail were top-notch. They took what we were looking for way beyond the next level, with some fantastic ideas. We initially looked to convert the existing deck space, carrying forward a typical rectangular room layout. They suggested that pulling the area inward into more of an L shape would make it more dramatic and cozier. This layout enabled some very striking design features, like the tandem windows and the exposed beam over the dining area. They also did a fantastic job creating a vaulted roof ceiling that matched the home's exterior aesthetics and made way for light to pour in on those large beautiful windows. A lot of thought went into not just style but also the functionality of the space. For example, the layout allows quick access from the kitchen to the grill, and I didn't even realize all the benefits until using the space. Notably, they had recommended a landing instead of a typical stairway, and aside from just looking better, it's a lot easier to carry trays of food with your hands full when you have that additional space. Another example is they recommended a four-pane vinyl window system that can be put into all kinds of open configurations, and it's super easy to clean. One of the features of the project we enjoy the most was a custom expansive glass folding door. It essentially gives us a glass wall that we can completely slide out of the way, creating a fully open space when we have guests. This makes the room feel like a natural continuation of the house, as opposed to an isolated space. It eliminates that awkward crowding you usually get with a more typical doorway. The fact that it slides means you do not cover the light switches with a door; they remain accessible in the room. The Degnan team was fantastic to work with, and even the owner (Abe) was highly engaged and responsive to any question or concern. *even after project completion*. Further, Degnan stands behind their work and is committed to your complete satisfaction. There was a manufacturing issue with our flooring, and Degnan diligently worked to correct it as soon as they were aware of the problem. Six months after the job was completed, Abe still personally reached out to make sure nothing new had popped up, and we were still happy. They even came out to check for shifts from season changes. Swita Metal Roofing…read more I rarely leave a review but felt it was necessary. We are a middle/later aged couple who debated between asphalt and a metal roof. Understand that not all meatal roofs are (3' x long lengths) sheets that look like long sheets of roofing. Nothing wrong with that but SMR sells and installs metal roofing that looks like traditional shingle/shaker roofing......but it lasts forever! Literally, "The last roof you'll ever need". Mike's crew of 7 men; (yes subcontracted), were on time, courteous, and worked 3 hard 14+ hour days as they raced the weather. Communication was never an issue and they let me know every day when they were going to be there and what they were going to try to accomplish that day. We were amazed how smooth this went as storms wandered through! We left our doors open as we got a 'good feel' from their lead that they were trustworthy from the moment they showed up. I'm not sure if they used our bathrooms, etc but if so, they left it cleaner than they found it if they did! Awesome, awesome group of guys with a great sense of humor! Our trust was not misplaced! Mike checked with us everyday.... many, many times ... to make sure everything was going well. Honestly, he was so concerned and between Mike, Mary and Jose, it was kinda overkill. To be fair, I got the feeling before we bought that this is the type of company they run, so if you go with them, expect a fair amount of contact from beginning to end. Carlos Gonzalez, the owner, was great to work with, and the company did a really fine job, cleaning, sanding, restoring wood, repairing steps, and finally painting the whole thing. The finished deck looks terrific and will last for years. Plus Carlos was easy to work with; he was attentive to details and was always in touch--we had to deal with delays because of rain. I don't know the full scope of what handy people can do and I kept asking "Can you do that?" and he kept saying "Yes." He replaced garage windows, repaired rotten wood, framing, door installation, etc. He also painted my garage. I have a cat tree that my dad made. It had become unstable. That cat tree has tremendous sentimental value to me and he made it stable and solid again. I'm not sure every handyman is willing to that kind of small job and Nathan said "Yes." He made my cats happy. Nathan installed living room shades. I've never had shades be so straight. I like the quality of his work so much I'm having him come over to do more work and install cabinets for me in 4-6 weeks. While he is busy and does book out I found his wait times very reasonable. One day my front door unexpectedly stopped working. Would not budge. I could not get into or out of my home. My neighbor had to help me break in through a window to get in through the side door. When he finally did he took kitchen measurements, we told him our budget. He informed me it would be a few weeks for an estimate. I waited 3 weeks, no response. I called and left a message, waited another week no response. I called and finally was able to get a hold of him and told he would get the estimate done tomorrow. Well here is is Spring May of 2019 and I am still waiting.-no estimate, no call to say sorry, NOTHING!!. I wish I could rate the quality of their construction but I couldn't even get an estimate. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! Glad I didn't try to get that estimate, because if it takes almost a year for an estimate, how long would the actual remodel take?!?
