Instead, it felt like I paid full meal prices for a tiny appetizer. The alcoholic drinks were another disappointment. The entire selection was wine-based, yet they're presented as cocktails. To make matters worse, the drinks come in aluminum cans that are opened and poured into clear plastic cups. This is an outdoor market, so naturally it's hot outside. Within about 15 minutes, the drink was warm and noticeably watered down from melting ice. For what they're charging, I expected something that would actually stay enjoyable for more than a few minutes. And then there was the customer service. The woman at the register took my payment, didn't give me everything I ordered, and then walked away when I tried to get her attention. I had to wave down another employee just to get what I had already paid for. When you're charging premium prices, the food, drinks, and service should actually feel worth the money. Unfortunately, none of them did. The only positive thing I can say is that the actual market itself is very nice and appealing to walk through. They have a good variety of produce, merchandise, and other vendors, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Unfortunately, the food and drink experience didn't live up to the market itself. The food, drinks, and customer service left a lot to be desired. With the prices being as high as they are, I expected a much better experience. The market may be worth visiting to browse, but I would personally skip the food and drinks.

Who wants to buy old fruits and veggies from the grocery store instead of shopping at an open-air market? From early May through November, the Suffolk Farmers' Market (SFM) provides a plethora for our senses. Approximately three years ago the SFM started a visitor center that has some nice features, including a pavilion and ceiling fans. Here are key features: -local produce -baked goods -artisan crafts (e.g., jewelry, bags, wood, etc.) -dog biscuits -live music -plants -petting zoo -grass-fed meat and eggs The SFM is open Wednesdays (3 p.m. - 6 p.m.) and Saturdays (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.); personally, I would recommend going on Saturdays as the selections on Wednesdays can be sparse. It is not the biggest market around; but, more so, it's about the community and supporting local businesses. Check it out!

They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! This patch was very spacious so even though there were quite a few other pickers, it felt like you were on your own. The strawberry photo cutouts were an adorable added bonus. They update the fb almost every day on how the crop is looking, the berries are wonderfully sweet and very well maintained. There are little signs to poke your head through to make you look like a strawberry person- and the people who run is are small town honest people. I only had a credit card this one time, so they told me (and I saw them do this to multiple people too!) to just take the berries and come back eventually when I had cash. This is a seasonal market that runs from 10am-2pm every Thursday; mid-May through mid-September. They had a great variety of vendors. The food vendor that caught my eye had lobster rolls. There were two or three stands for fresh produce. They also had a few craft vendors and vendors selling homemades like soaps and dog treats. Only 1 MLM company from what I noticed. They also had a few local organizations. I spent most of my time talking to the local 4H Office representatives. As a former 4-Her this was a really nice surprise! This is a great way to spend a Thursday afternoon in Newport News, plus parking is free! You can also enjoy the shops and restaurants throughout City Center!
