Once or twice a year I find a way to visit Evans Music Store in Asheboro, North Carolina. It's not that we lack music stores in Florida but we lack a store equipped to help those who have a desire to play bluegrass music. As a devoted patron who has visited the store and bought a lot of equipment I'm thankful for the personal service. Did I mention that I take lessons? I take in person lessons when I am in the area and I take zoom lessons each week from home. Mr. Evans has been extremely helpful as I have navigated through the process of learning to play different instruments. Visiting Evans Music Store is something I look forward to each year. My daughter bought a music book there. Once she got it home she realized that it was not what she thought it was. She went to return it and they would not take it back. The man was very short with her even though the book was in pristine condition. He made his sale but it will be the last one from us. read more

The instruments on sale there are presented in an acceptable environment, and I'm not dissuading anyone from music lessons there or anything. The problem lies with how the business is run. The store is in a good location, but like another Google reviewer, I had a bad experience there that stuck with me for years. I asked a gentleman there a few years ago if he could match a price in a catalogue called, "Musicians' Friend". I had long hair at the time and got the impression he didn't like either teenagers or Rock'n Rollers. He told me, "We have Enough Customers". It really hurt me to hear that, so I said, "Okay" and then left. I keep thinking about it years later and it baffles me. I went to the 'Music Barn' in Greensboro and they matched prices and then suggested add-ons like a guitar case and other items which I then bought. They were really nice to me at the Music Barn. As for the Evan's Music Store, unless you know them personally, I say just stay away because their customer service is not very good, and as I mentioned, they even say they have enough customers. Monroe's Music on Sunset Ave. is a much better alternative. I have bought things here that have lasted a good while, however. read more

The absolute worst prices and selection I've ever seen.Everything in the store is at least 50 years old.Its so overpriced it's ridiculous.You can't look at anything in the store without the old man that owns the place following you around like you're going to steal something.They absolutely refuse to refund or exchange anything.Even if you buy the wrong thing and spend over $70 you're stuck with it!!!DONT BUY ANYTHING HERE!!! DONT EVEN VISIT...go to the Music Barn or Guitar Center in Greensboro for great service and great prices!! They will even let you return it if it doesn't work.Evans is a JOKE!!! I've had a good experience with Evans Music. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable and has helped me find and choose music and accessories that I needed for family members. I have seen all kinds of people at their store. Once I saw and spoke with a young man with tattoos who doesn't have a piano at home and is self-taught, he was hanging out at the store playing on a keyboard for a good while. Like a lot of places they have some sheet music that has been sitting around for a while, but I think the mean characterization another reviewer gave that "everything is 50 years old", is just plain false. They've got an extensive selection of new instruments, from what I see--lots of keyboards, guitars, ukuleles, drum sets. They also sell used and new instruments for school bands, with layaway and rent-to-own options. And yes, I imagine theft is going to be a problem for any retailer. A smaller business can't absorb the expense of merchandise that goes missing as easily as a chain. And it's true that the owner will often stand there hoping to strike up a conversation with you as you shop, but that's how customer service is done in some places. Walmart it's not. Finally, I am pleased with Evans because they lend space and advertising to many talented music teachers who provide instruction of all kinds. I enjoy hearing live bluegrass when I go in and seeing all the kids (and grownups) who are learning to play. The music lesson program is a great service to the community that would definitely be missed. Parking is a bit tight at times. Prices are in line with your usual brick-and-mortar options. read more

Spent $70 on supplies here today and I really don't appreciate the way the owner Richard Evans treats his customers. He is very rude and the only advice he could offer me was to get online and look it up. What kind of music store owner tells its customers to just look it up. I wish I would have talked to him before spending my money here otherwise I would've left immediately from the treatment I received. Then I find out all sales are final. Great. My lesson learned. So I went to Monroes music down the street after leaving this awful place and they treated me with much more respect and actually answered the questions I had. After looking at Monroe's prices, I realized that I over payed at Evans, which makes me feel even worse about not going there first. My father in law had taken his guitar here last year for new strings and damaged it. They denied damaging it, so he took it to the Music barn(in Greensboro) whom did a great job fixing it. Steer clear of this place unless you like paying high markups and rude customer service. Oh, and also be prepared to be hovered over while you browse the store because he seems to think everyone who enters is going to steal some of his overpriced merchandise. After doing some more research on this placed, I realized many other people are having similar experiences. read more

This store is so rediculous. I knew the owner the second I walked in, this guy obviously loves his money and definetly knows NOTHING about music or even selling for that matter. He pretty much stalks you around the store with a permanent frown on his face spouting off obvious things about random instruments and tries to pressure you in to buying his sub par equipment (which is somehow priced at full retail!?). And when you enevitably don't he just gives up and sits behind his desk and looks at his computer. I could tell he was just an ornery old man because I overheard him giving his employees ridiculous busy work (probably just pouting because I didn't buy anything). I can't think of a single good thing to say about this store the old man's personality turned me off completely go ANYWHERE but here. read more
