We came with our 3 young adult children and 2 dogs, we all want to return for another vacation! The river is gorgeous, I started my day with my coffee and the river. The facilities include a fire pit, tables and chairs outside, a grill in a cabana area, horseshoes and we took advantage of all of it! Convenient to quaint Elizabethton and Roan Mountain, and we rafted down the Watauga River with Wahoo Adventures. Plenty of time to rest, walk, play games, work on a puzzle and enjoy the peace and quiet. When you're ready to plug in you can enjoy the Direct tv and Netflix available! The owners are lovely people and our dogs loved playing with theirs. I highly recommend this location--it has made me rethink beach vacations and make mountain/river vacations the way to go!

The owner's cabin is about a quarter mile away so he be their if needed. The rooms and overall cabin is clean, though the cabin is not serviced daily. As it is in the forest, bugs can be an issue if they get into the cabin with an open door. The price is reasonable for the accommodations provided beating out many area lodgings for the price vs number of occupants. With this being a cabin the area is remote and getting to obtain groceries and services is about a 30 minute drive. As to amenities, my only issue is that the kitchen does not come with an exhaust fan so that will limit the foods that can be cooked.

This was…read morewhere we spent our honeymoon (well Gburg actually - in an old run down cabin that wasn't theirs). I don't even know if this place was around then. That was 41 years ago but we spent time up here for our 40th anniversary this year - using them exclusively since we found them about 20 years ago. I think the ownership went thru change since we've been coming here but we exclusively and use them at least 3-4 times a year. Their special for last minute trips is incredible. After 20 years, 3-4 times a year (so we've stayed in most of them), each one has always been clean as a whistle. We have figured that we have stayed with them over 60 trips. At least. We've never stayed with anyone else the past 20 years! Our favorite place is at the top of the mountain at the water tower. However three of the four we always stayed at and liked the best, all but one was burned down in the Gatlinburg Fire of 2016. It burned down to their concrete footprint. They finally got one of them rebuilt and just opened back up so we are leaving Friday to go there. It's at the very top of the mountain and you can see for miles and miles. Yet it is only 5 min from the Parkway, behind Dollywood. You would think a cabin on the to of the mountain with its incredible view would be miles from the Parkway but it's only a short 5-8 minutes. I can never praise their staff enough. They are awesome people to work with. Some of our favorite restaurants we never miss are the Applewood for bfast, Guy Fieri's restaurant and arcade ( this is awesome and relatively new and great to go because there is a Crumbl and Ice Cream shop next door that are for that sweet tooth we always seem to get worse up there), Chop House, Cherokee Grill (Gburg), Ogles Farmers Kitchen ( I think this is the name. It right close to going in for Applewood. We've just recently found this and have been multiple times), The Pottery Barn Cafe is usually our first place we hit coming into town. There is also Paula Deens, Chop House, and Johnny Carino's. This is just for starters. Stay here and you won't regret it!!!

They provide all of the amenities of home for their guests. We enjoyed a fire in the fire pit next to our cabin and rocking on the front porch in the evenings. The sound of the water moving down the river and the seclusion of the location is peaceful and good for the soul. Due to the convenient location we were able to enjoy sight seeing in North Carolina and Tennessee and take in the breathtaking views from the mountains when hiking. For anyone who loves the outdoors as we do this is the perfect location to spend a vacation. The small town of Erwin is a favorite of ours for its charm and unique shops. We look forward to spending more time at the farm!

When I arrived a few days later they took me in as if I were family. I had injuries from the trail and without hesitation got me the medical treatment I needed. They put me up in the cabin where again they made me feel at home...so much so I did not want to leave spending 5 days with them. I met many other wonderful guests who shared the cabin and stayed in their guest rooms in the house overlooking the scenic view of the river. The cabin had every amenity we could of asked for (OK...a hot tub on the deck would have been nice) and we felt so comfortable from the minute we got there. The living room fireplace was amazing and we had it on constantly. The living room was comfortable and large. The kitchen was a bit small for both of us to work in but it was more than adequate. Both bedrooms were lovely (the king sized bed was super comfortable) and there were plenty of bathrooms to pick from. The sheets and towels were plentiful and plush and it was nice to be able to do laundry. The driveway up to the house was something. Super steep and it made the returns from our walks a bit challenging. And we were glad that it didn't snow to have to tackle it in the ice. The internet was great for keeping up with work but it wasn't sufficient to be able to stream movies or television. But the choices on the satellite TV made up for it. We loved The Getaway and will definiteley be back!
