I will never go through another pregnancy without a doula by my side and my doula will always be Jennifer. Her kind spirit and heart make her the perfect person to work with Mother's and babies. Prior to delivery Jennifer was able to keep me informed of options that were not presented by my doctors. She offers a holistic approach to solving problems that arose during my pregnancy that doctors were quick to fix with medication only. Due to a family emergency she was not able to be there during the beginning of my induction but she made sure to stay in contact via phone and text. She walked me through techniques that allowed my birthing process to go faster than the normal induction. Despite her family emergency she arrived as I was going into labor. She had many pain reliving and calming techniques that guided me through labor without an epidural. With her assistance I was able to deliver in less than 6 hours after I was induced. I am sure it would have taken longer without he guidance. After delivery my son had a tongue tie and reflux which made breastfeeding difficult. Once again she was a wealth of knowledge . My toddler went to her immediately and loved hanging out with her. While I was laboring she tidied up my kitchen so everything was clean for the next day for my husband. She supervised my little one while he came in to see me, and took him to another room when things got intense. He even let her put him down for a nap which I was super surprised by! My husband was able to focus on me the entire time without having to worry about the little. My labor was fast and intense so I was really thankful he was there for support. I would definitely recommend having a sibling doula from labor of love at your home birth, or if you need someone to be with your kids while you're at the hospital.

She helped me prepare. Her info packet was practical and asked concrete questions about pain, coping skills and post-partum issues. I felt comfortable taking her homeopathic recommendations and herbal infusions (yummy Nora tea!) Critically, she was always available for checking in. It was easy to talk with her and I sought her advice about an ongoing problem I experienced with a particular midwife. (Since she both volunteers and gives massages at ABC, she's well-known there and familiar with its routines/rhythms. This put me at ease because I was a new client.) Margaret's post-partum help with tricky nursing issues proved equally invaluable. Margaret's a skilled licensed massage therapist who specializes in Arvigo Maya abdominal work. I was bigger this time around so the last trimester was tough. Having weekly massages in my last month was such a treat. Her massages were restorative, relieved me of the constant pain and worked to center me. The birth of my 2nd son was highly unusual but through the expert knowledge and skills of Margaret and the rest of my birth team, I experienced a safe and empowered natural birth. My son was born at 10 lbs and face first, quite a rare and challenging presentation. His labor was long and slow (3 days). Once we learned his presentation, we required a transfer to the hospital. We all worked together as a team to make his birth go smoothly and safely. Throughout all of this Margaret remained calm, focused on my well-being, supportive of my decisions, patient, positive and helpful. Janisa gave me emotional support, she encouraged me to do a photoshoot! She set up everything did my make up picked me up dropped me off fed me lol! She also gave me tools to deal with all of my emotions. I had a phobia of hospitals because of the high death rates of black women giving birth and my own mothers passing. Just a lot to unpack. She not only was my doula, she was my photographer, hairstylist, makeup artist (she's really great btw!) she set up my nursery, she was accessible when I had meltdowns and baby daddy issues she helped me navigate everything and provided resources. She gave me homework to do to protect my peace and prepare for my baby to come earth side. Janisia worked with my midwife and chiropractor, and gave me topics to ask my doctors because I had dual care. This was extremely helpful because you don't know what you don't know and during a pandemic so many things were new and scary! Janisia also did Soo many things to help me mentally prepare for the baby, how to use my stroller. This was huge I didn't know what I was doing lol she was a big help! Natural remedies for heartburn. Janisia also helped me learn how to put the baby in abs out of the car seat and operate my stroller. She wasn't able to physically attend my birth and had a backup I was nervous about that and was kinda sad but she and the replacement were there. Janisa was on FaceTime checking in every step of the way and her back up was amazing as well! I am pleased with my services and if I ever had another baby I wouldn't hesitate to have her by my side or recommend her to others.
