During this meet and greet, we stressed that our father needed to stay off his feet as much as possible due to having recently had toes amputated. We explained, IN GREAT DETAIL, the confusion associated with his dementia. We explained that the stairs in the house are dangerous (even with the child's gate we have secured), and that we need to keep him away from them. We explained that the garage is unsafe for him as well and that his newest fixation is wanting the keys to his truck (which is parked in the garage). My father also has a lake in the back of his house that could cause danger if he were to "wander" outside alone. We not only told the aide, but SHOWED HER, all of the cameras we have set up in the home for his safety. We explained we would be monitoring the camera as well. We showed her all the alarms on the doors that would chime if he tried to leave the home--we also have an alarm on the garage door. We even have alarms that chime when he gets out of bed in the morning, so he is not wandering around in his room (with newly amputated toes). We not only explained his dietary needs (type 2 diabetic) but also left a menu of what to serve him, in great detail. We showed her all the activities and games we have for our father, so she could not only encourage him to engage in them but also participate in the games with him. We were told light house cleaning was included, and not only left cleaning supplies for her but also told her which areas needed attention. Upon checking the security camera footage, this aide was not only sitting on the sofa in the living room with headphones in her ears, COMPLETELY ignoring our father as he tried to engage in conversation with her, but she was also sleeping. We have several videos of her wrapped in blankets, sleeping, and audibly SNORING on the sofa, as my father is seen wandering around the house. My father even sounded the alarm and went into the garage. She never engaged in any activities with him--his games remained untouched. She never cleaned anything --none of the areas pointed out to her were touched. She never followed the menu left for her and served my father enough carbs to cause a massive spike in his blood sugar. She worked (using that word VERY lousy) in my father's home for one whole day, and on the second day, I walked into my father's house to find her curled up asleep on the sofa, wrapped up in two blankets. This is the same day my father ended up in the garage while she slept. I told her to leave. My sister spoke to Chanel in HR with Home Helpers and explained EXACTLY everything that occurred. She told her what a huge liability they have on their hands with this aide. My father could have ended up dead. He could have wandered outside and gotten lost, he could have drowned, he could have attempted to drive off in his truck, he could have fallen with all of the unsteady wandering he was doing, he could have fallen down the stairs, he could have gone into diabetic shock, he could have wandered into the road and gotten hit by a car, etc... all while this aide spent her time in his home SLEEPING. This was Oct. 26. Today is Nov. 7th. To date, no one with Home Helpers has reached out to us to follow up. I guess they are perfectly fine with having someone who is a considerable liability employed. Your loved one is unsafe under their care. We have video and pictures to prove everything I have written. To be clear, this is the Newnan, GA, location, and the aide was Tabitha Harrison.
