I've walked by Evergreen Florist many times in the heart of Stoneham downtown and am always impressed by how beautifully decorated storefront is, especially their seasonal/holiday decor. Aside from this, I received a stunning flower arrangement and have to say just how beautifully crafted it is. I ordered a bouquet for my daughter and she was very happy with it. There were a few mis steps but it all ended well. The arrangement was Purple Pleasure. I typically get something for her every Valentine's Day and, as she no longer lives nearby, I must rely on local florists. This arrangement looked lovely on the website and the order was placed. Shortly thereafter I was informed by my wife that my daughter would be traveling for business and not back in the office until Feb 15. I called the florist and changed the delivery date. On Feb 14 I received an email advising that my order had been delivered. I called the florist and could not get through, so I wrote an email. It's a bizarre thing to feel proud that you have the most beautiful flowers at the funeral, but I did thanks to evergreen. The open heart arrangement and urn wreath were both customized by color and stunning. I used Evergreen for my recent wedding, and although the flowers came out ok in the end, working with the owner, Pat, was an infuriating experience. I found her to be very pushy, unwilling to listen to what my family and I wanted, and overall unprofessional. Upon our first meeting, I showed Pat some pictures of wedding bouquets I liked on my phone (all pastel blues, cream, and peach). She requested that I print out all of these photos, as well as photos of the church, venue, dress etc, and hand deliver them to her rather than email them. An odd and inconvenient request in 2015, but I thought that at least she was being thorough so I complied. About a month before the wedding, we went back to look at sample bouquets which were supposedly based on our previous discussion and the pictures provided. I was shocked to find bright cobalt blue and orange bouquets that looked more appropriate for a Denver Broncos tailgate party than a wedding. I told Pat I didn't like the bouquets and wanted white or cream hydrangeas as a base. She responded to this by saying "OK, let's do navy then, that will look beautiful." Throughout our meeting, she ignored almost every suggestion or request i made and instead inserted her own ideas. Eventually, my mother-in-law, who has some experience in the floral business, had to insist that she listen to what we wanted. We eventually got sample bridesmaid bouquets that were better than the originals. However, she refused to make a sample bridal bouquet saying it was too expensive and time consuming. Evergreen also decorated our cake with fresh flowers. Although I sent them an email of a picture of the cake I wanted, and instructed them to copy it exactly, on the morning of the wedding one of the employees asked me to text her a photo of the cake. After all that, the final product looked nothing like the picture. I would not recommend this florist to anyone. I had to convince Pat to provide me with the product I wanted. With amount of business I was giving her and the money I spent, she should have been trying her best to make the arrangements I requested, rather than making things that she personally thought looked nice. I've used them a couple times before today: stopped in to buy one of the pre-made bouquets and have ordered online from them for next day delivery to Melrose, and those experiences were great. But today I needed a bouquet for my daughter's dance recital, wasn't sure if they'd be selling flowers at her recital, and I didn't want to pick it up from their store with my daughter in tow, I wanted it to be a surprise. So I called them this morning in my panic, recital is tonight, and they were so ridiculously helpful! Less than 3 hours later, they delivered a BEAUTIFUL pink and purple bouquet to my house, wrapped in paper, not plastic as I requested with a cute little pink bow holding it all together. I don't know how ridiculous of a request this was of me, but I thought it was pretty crazy to ask for a custom bouquet and have delivery a few hours later the same day, but they did it graciously without a problem. I have been going to Evergreen for about 8 yrs now. They handle flowers for my business (on a budget) and for personal matters. They even did the flowers for my wedding in 2008. You can call ahead and have your display ready, or just walk in and pick something up from the flower chest (flower fridge?). You can be certain to get QUALITY flowers at a reasonable price. This isn't like the crap you get at the super market. These are fresh cut flowers that are sure to last atleast a week. I'm going to be really honest here. I was so skeptical about this place. I remember walking out of my initial meeting here feeling unsure of my decision to chose them as our wedding florist. We even (reluctantly) put a deposit down that day, then I went home and searched for more places. I think it was partly due to the fact that the place seems a little outdated. Brides these days want to walk into a picture off of a magazine cover, but in reality we all need to get our heads out of our asses. I ended up eating my words, and thoughts, and am here to tell you all that you should not judge books by their cover. I also think that part of me thought Pat wasn't understanding what I wanted during our meeting. I didn't want sparkles, she said lets do some sparkles; I didn't want colors, she said lets put in a pop of color. A recent reviewer mentions a similar experience, but it makes me feel like this is just what Pat does when meeting you for the first time so she can REALLY figure out what the heck it is your stupid bride mind wants. Rest assured people, she knows what she's doing. I was and will always be completely blown away by the amazing job they did with our wedding flowers. When I look at pictures from my wedding, I look at the flowers more than anything else - they were outstanding. They went above and beyond my expectations, and vision, and created some truly incredible bouquets. I remember tearing up when the girls came to deliver them to my hotel room. All I can say is bring in pictures of what you want, write notes on the pictures, be open and honest when telling her what it is you do and don't want. DON'T bring other crazy people with you, it's too much. I had my mother, my mother-in-law, and Pat, sitting around a table chucking ideas at my head. I've been going to them for 8 years and have always gotten outstanding, artistic arrangements and top-notch service. I live more than 50 miles away, and I will schedule purchases so that I can buy from them exclusively. Why? Every time I buy elsewhere, it can't compare to the artistry and value you get when you buy from them. If you want to REALLY get your money's worth, simply give them a price and let them decide what's best that day, and you'll get the most amazing bouquet. Always, without fail. I'm surprised at the reviews that state the owner is pushy (it has never happened to me, they've always been charming), but do realize that they are artists and have decades of experience behind their opinions. This is a bit like arguing with your tailor. They want the best for you, and you'll get if if you're willing to listen. I love the fact that they know my voice on the phone. Tried to talk to Evergreen florist about flower for my wedding since they are in town, but wasn't able to get very far. I started to explain what I was looking for, but was cut off and asked if I had picked bridesmaid dresses yet. I hadn't and I was basically told I shouldn't even talked to them until I had a fabric swatch because "we could be talking about 20 different shades of pink". Tried explaining that dresses would be navy and I wanted yellow and white flowers so there's no reason I needed things to match the dress fabric. We used Evergreen for my daughter's wedding and they did a great job. The only drawback was the owner (while has the experience behind her), was a little pushy for lack of a better word. While she is guiding you and when you have a suggestion, she is quick to say no and insert her opinion and even if you go back to what you envision if it is not something she thinks is right she will almost ignore your request. An example was for my corsage, I specifically said what I wanted, showed picture and was told here is something that would be beautiful and proceeded to show me one already made. I explained while it was beautiful, I did NOT want any color to it. Just the pearl bracelet and ivory flower ONLY and ivory ribbon. She insisted that it would look much nicer with the color ribbon. I again said, thank you but no thank you... showed her the picture again, showed the picture to another one of her co-workers, notes were made for the specifics NO COLOR just ivory and guess what? I got what SHE wanted when I arrived at the wedding... color ribbon and similar to the one she showed me that I said no to. It was not what I requested and was disappointed and ended up not wearing it. Only wore it for a few pictures so it I didn't look out of place with the others who were wearing them. The do before hand, make a centerpiece and one bridesmaid bouquet which was nice to see... fortunately my daughter did like what was made. They were very beautiful and got many compliments. To the other person who posted and said that you needed color swatch and/or dress... I can understand her request however your point is valid. You didn't want it to match the dress. You just wanted specific color and YOUR vision. This is what I was talking about on them not listening... She lost your business for good reason in my opinion. Sometimes a bride knows what they want. I hope you had a great day and got what you wanted in the end. I would recommend Evergreen, but be insistent on what you want and write it into the contract. read more

We had a sympathy arrangement delivered to our home and to our utter dismay found them on our porch FROZEN!!!! clearly they had been there for quite some time. I immediately called Evergreen Florist and explained what I found. At first she was a bit shocked that her driver would leave the flowers out in such cold temps and offered to pick up the flowers the following day and redo the arrangement or freshen them up! A short while later Evergreen called and informed me that the order was called in from California and the instructions were to leave them out! I was shocked that Evergreen didn't have the COMMON sense to realize by leaving them out they would die! The woman on the other line said that due to the instructions being followed I could bring the flowers to them for a freshening up. Living in this town 11yrs, I never heard of Evergreen Florist until I received an arrangement from a friend on the west coast. Everything about the arrangement was positively outstanding. The variation of pinks, the selection of 6 different varieties of flowers and the accent greens were the most beautiful I've received--everything was fresh and the arrangement fragrant. Most impressive--any angle of this arrangement could be a front face presentation. I've later learned from a relative who loves and grows beautiful flowers this is a skill not acquired by many florists. No matter which way I turned the vase, every position was symmetrical and beautifully designed. A change of water everyday, as instructed, the flowers are still beautiful--the tulips have gone by now and I noticed not a piece of floral styrofoam was inside this vase. Evergreen Florist is a credit to the industry, it's obvious they love their work, and I'm glad I know of this florist.
