The people are warm and welcoming and the messages thought-provoking and inspirational. This church does NOT make the mistake of trying to fit new people into slots without knowing them. (I've been to some churches like that!) I feel like I can be myself here. It is a very human church but filled with very faithful people. It's also on the move, trying to hold onto some traditional ways while also "moving into the 21st century," as our choir director has said. This church has vibrancy, intelligence, caring, and warmth. Some folks there have always been Episcopalians, but many people, like myself, come from other Christian traditions. All are welcome and valued. I feel like my faith is growing in unexpected ways, really challenging me. What else can you ask of a church?

So why am I writing a review and what reason could I possibly have for writing a review for a church I don't worship at? Good questions; I'm glad you asked! :) I take the bus to get there on Saturday mornings and though I only have to walk a short distance from the bus stop, I pass three other churches along the way - so they're all in the same neighborhood. Note the picture below. That's only one of a number of welcoming messages posted on the church. Every one of the other churches I pass on my way only have fences and 'no trespassing' signs with assurances that those who violate the no trespassing order will be prosecuted. If I were looking for a church in this neighborhood where the principle of love thy neighbor as thyself is taught, this would be the one.

This church is authentic, devoted to truth and growth in the lives of everyone both in and out of the church. It already feels like family. Our kids love being accepted and loved on as much as we do. Greeted at the door twice at the 10:30 service…read more Greeted before entering the chapel, welcomed during the service, but nothing that blared over the loud speakers; just a bunch of caring neighbors, offering a handshake to one of His children. I've since been to both the 10:30 a few times and their 9:00 AM a few times. Both a little different, but also the same. Good praise and worship time, great lessons, and most importantly, lots and lots of people being real. I don't do the brain-wash or the "leave your house in your will to us" stuff; I just like to go and give Him praise and glory. What a phenomenal place to do just that.

Services are 8am for traditional worship (hymns and such) 9:30am and 11:00am for more modern worship. The lead pastor, Pastor Craig is actually pretty interesting, you don't fall asleep listening to him talk. For the modern services, they have a fantastic kid's church available, as well as a great nursery. They have a great coffee stand $2 for coffee or italian soda, and they offer you a free coffee your first time visiting. The youth program is the best that I have saw, 5:30pm every Sunday is Elev8 Youth Group. Middle and high school students welcome. It is lead by Pastor Sherwin, with several other adults volunteering.

It's not your old fashioned church style, they want it to fit into the next generation of youth while maintaining the word of God. the lead pastor is by far one of the best you will meet. For children, you will not find a more inviting group of people working with the youth teaching them about God in a way that is fun and inviting. God has greatly blessed this church.

As a level one meditation student, I have found the guided meditations and course instruction to be more beneficial than years of therapy in terms of providing insight into the causes of suffering and showing the way toward a peace of mind. I cannot recommend the free meditation courses highly enough. For the individual who is either brand new to or familiar with Buddhist teaching, the monastery offers an accessible and welcoming learning environment. It is indeed a refuge for those interested in deepening their understanding of wholesome and liberating teachings of the Buddha. The monastery will soon be in transition with a large renovation project starting in the Fall of 2019. In the meantime, it is beautiful and meticulously cared for. Warm lighting and clean, open spaces positively glow with elegant fabrics, inspiring and tasteful Buddhist statues, plants and flowers. The Buddha Jewel monastery is a blessed refuge of sanity, calm and quiet dignity in a chaotic secular world. I can't believe how fortunate we are to have this place located in Shoreline! If you don't live nearby, it is well worth the drive to attend the well-prepared and thoughtfully presented classes. If I had to describe the Buddha Jewel monastery facility and community in one word it would be "integrity". Care and thought and consideration abound in all aspects of the community outreach and education.
