As the gravel path neared some tall trees I noticed a dirt path into the woods. Following the path into the woods I heard different birds calling. Then I spotted a neon green structure with steps and a ramp and I went closer to figure out what it was. It was a large zipline swing, the largest I have encountered in a park thus far. I tried it out and found I got traveling pretty quick. A fun treat tucked in the wooded area of the park. Parking was abundant and the driving entrance easy to find. Signs with the park name were located both at the driving entrance and on a fence on the opposite side of the park. In addition to the aforementioned features, there was a large playground, grass baseball field, and a basketball hoop area with a fence and smooth ground.

The playground is very nice, boasting a wood chip floor and containing unique play structures for children resembling a cross between a watchtower and a tree house with a slide attached. The play area is easily accessible via foot, vehicle, or other road-traversable means. A bike rack is located on the side of the play area closest to the Town of Woodway Town Hall. There are both swings for very little ones and ones big enough for adults. Nice if you want to swing next to your young one, or on your own, and are an adult. A picnic table on a grassy patch is located between the wood chip-floored play area and the road. Overall a very beautiful small play area tucked away in the tall trees of Woodway.

Things to do near Seattle…read more Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is a popular spot for walking, hiking, tide pooling (best at low tide) and wildlife viewing with views of the Olympic Mountains. It is generally not ideal for swimming since the water in Puget Sound remains consistently ice-cold year-round. There's also shore crabs, hermit crabs, sea anemones, barnacles, sea cucumbers, and sea slugs. It's a 40-acre park on Puget Sound. There are no lifeguards on site. There's a footbridge crossing railroad tracks to reach the beach. The park is dog-friendly and offers both upper bluff and lower beach areas, some rocky with large cobble on the north side. There is parking available ( the one closest to beach fills up fast) with 2 other free upper parking lots. Restrooms are available.

I went during one of the lowest tides of the year, and I saw a lot of sea life. I saw sea cucumbers, sea stars, fish, countless sea anemones, etc. On the walk back, I even saw a ginormous moon snail. There were incredible views of the water and sand. It's super refreshing to relax here. Do note that you have to climb a fenced overpass across some railroad tracks, so if you're nervous about heights, don't look down! The washrooms here weren't well stocked with soap when I visited, but it might be because of the sheer volume of visitors. Multiple car parks were full. It's great to see that everyone is so interested in nature!

After missing one of the parking areas, I turned up the road by a sign along the street for the park. Just up the road and to the right is a small parking area abutting a paved area with basketball hoops and benches, a small red restroom building, a skate park, and a playground. Mine was the only car in the parking lot both when I arrived and when I left. Up the hills by the skate park is a trail into the woods. On a stump just in the trees was a chickaree (North American red squirrel). In addition to the first red squirrel, I heard others calling from the trees as I walked. The trees along the trails are tall and provided protection from the rays of the sun. Shade cast on the ground was cool. Along the trails were different flowers in bloom and ripening salmonberries. In my approximately half an hour at the park, I encountered vocal sparrows, a rufous-sided towhee, a bunny rabbit, a gray squirrel, and foraging woodpeckers. All around an enjoyable morning adventure.

There is parking on both 196th Street SW and the short Wilcox Park/Veterans Way Drive on the backside of the park. I enjoy the row of American flags flying high on the front side of the park. It is both patriotic and makes the park easy to identify from the road when driving past. Sanitation wasn't a problem when I visited and the park was well taken care of. There is also a restroom building with running water.

We arrived early to be sure that we could purchase a pass for the 1.5 hour block of leisure swim time. Once we got in, a less than friendly lifeguard walked over and looked right at me and said that I could enter the pool if I had showered first. Not one single person went and showered first and no one else was told to shower. My child was already in the pool. We paid around $13 for 1.5 hours of a very crowded toddler swim area that was about one foot deep.

One of the perks of the pool from my perspective as a little one was that the pool was shallow, less frightening when one cannot touch the bottom of the pool and have one's head out of the water at the same time. The workers were friendly and locker rooms cleanly. The deck space for my parents during open swim and swim lessons could be a bit cramped, but partially depended on how many other parents and guardians were present.

Some portions of the grassy areas were still frosty when I visited in early afternoon. The main grassy area nearer to Sprague Street had mostly thawed underfoot. Large grassy areas flanked a playground area abutted by a couple of picnic tables and trash and recycling receptacles. Entrances/exits were located approximately on Edmonds Street and Sprague Street. I found parking close to the entrance/exit and a sign on Sprague Street for this visit. Closer to the other entrance/exit was a paved basketball area. Birds chirped and hopped around on the ground as I ambled around. It was a calm and tranquil sunny afternoon adventure and added to the experiences I have enjoyed at the park.

The community needs this park just few block from city center. Seriously needs to be cleaned up! Take care of this park! The city needs this park for family's. Keeping up only 2 parks in this city is a crime to the people who love Edmonds.
