The playground is very nice, boasting a wood chip floor and containing unique play structures for children resembling a cross between a watchtower and a tree house with a slide attached. The play area is easily accessible via foot, vehicle, or other road-traversable means. A bike rack is located on the side of the play area closest to the Town of Woodway Town Hall. There are both swings for very little ones and ones big enough for adults. Nice if you want to swing next to your young one, or on your own, and are an adult. A picnic table on a grassy patch is located between the wood chip-floored play area and the road. Overall a very beautiful small play area tucked away in the tall trees of Woodway.

My partner and I drove to Richmond Beach Saltwater Park today. It was a gorgeous day to be at the…read morebeach, and this beach is gorgeous! I don't know why, but I have always been scared crossing the bridge over the railroad tracks on the way from the parking lot to the beach. I have no fear of heights, and in fact I feel much more peaceful in the air or on the water than I do on the earth. The bridge is sturdy and safe, with tall, secure fencing on both sides. Little kids were crossing it today with no fear at all. One little kid was getting pulled across it in a large wagon. That was pretty cute to see. It is a bit of a trek from the parking lot to the beach area, a trek that includes this perfectly safe bridge which I somehow mysteriously feel scared while walking on. I recently injured my right heel playing tennis, so I was limping and hobbling and walking quite slowly, but this walk was still quite doable for me today. There were a lot of people at this beach park today, but it really didn't feel crowded, and everyone we talked to was friendly. The only slight bummer was that one of the reasons that we went out there today was to talk with a Naturalist from the Seattle Aquarium. We talked with 3 different Naturalists. They were all friendly enough, but all 3 of them seemed noticeably unenthusiastic about talking about the sea life at this beach park. Oh well, we moved on pretty quickly from that, and we really enjoyed this beach park anyway. There were a few people flying kites, and the mountains looked clear and bright behind the sunlit water. I waded in the water (one of my favorite things to do in life), and the cold waves breaking over my legs and feet felt wonderful on a hot day like today. 5 stars for sure. This place is so beautiful.

The playground is designed with different age levels in mind, as well as different ability levels. There are a lot of unique features geared towards children with limited mobility, short kids, tall kids, adventurous climbers, social butterflies, and more. After missing one of the parking areas, I turned up the road by a sign along the street for the park. Just up the road and to the right is a small parking area abutting a paved area with basketball hoops and benches, a small red restroom building, a skate park, and a playground. Mine was the only car in the parking lot both when I arrived and when I left. Up the hills by the skate park is a trail into the woods. On a stump just in the trees was a chickaree (North American red squirrel). In addition to the first red squirrel, I heard others calling from the trees as I walked. The trees along the trails are tall and provided protection from the rays of the sun. Shade cast on the ground was cool. Along the trails were different flowers in bloom and ripening salmonberries. In my approximately half an hour at the park, I encountered vocal sparrows, a rufous-sided towhee, a bunny rabbit, a gray squirrel, and foraging woodpeckers. All around an enjoyable morning adventure.

The large grassy field on 196th Street SW is prefect for if you want space to be active and run around or play a recreation field sport that doesn't take up too much space. There is parking on both 196th Street SW and the short Wilcox Park/Veterans Way Drive on the backside of the park. I enjoy the row of American flags flying high on the front side of the park. It is both patriotic and makes the park easy to identify from the road when driving past. Sanitation wasn't a problem when I visited and the park was well taken care of. There is also a restroom building with running water.

We arrived early to be sure that we could purchase a pass for the 1.5 hour block of leisure swim time. Once we got in, a less than friendly lifeguard walked over and looked right at me and said that I could enter the pool if I had showered first. Not one single person went and showered first and no one else was told to shower. My child was already in the pool. We paid around $13 for 1.5 hours of a very crowded toddler swim area that was about one foot deep.

One of the perks of the pool from my perspective as a little one was that the pool was shallow, less frightening when one cannot touch the bottom of the pool and have one's head out of the water at the same time. The workers were friendly and locker rooms cleanly. The deck space for my parents during open swim and swim lessons could be a bit cramped, but partially depended on how many other parents and guardians were present.
