We used Evergreen Tree & Shrub services two years ago to cut down a tree. We were pleased with their work, so when we needed another huge tree (40 ft) removed we called Carlos again. He gave us a reasonable estimate and we were very pleased with the service. His team showed up on time and did a careful job of removing the tree and cleaning up. They were very mindful of our home because they had to carry cuttings through a narrow hallway. I would definitely recommend their service. read more

Description Of Work: Tree removal and stump ground. Member Comments: Carlos performed the initial visit to provide us with a statement and after reviewing several companies, he seemed quite knowledgeable to what we needed. We arranged a date to come in and remove a tall spruce from our backyard and that the stump will be ground all in the same day. Carlos explained that the job will start at 8AM and by 12 noon everything will be completed. The job was performed on time, however, the full job was not completed, the stump was not ground. We could not reach Carlos to even give him a partial payment. AFTER TWO MONTHS OF REMOVING THE TREE, several follow up calls, no explanation whatsoever, or NO NOTICE, they decide to return, and remove the stump. So basically, a job that was supposed to be finished in half a day took TWO MONTHS!!!! There was debris in our neighbors backyard, and the workers that performed the cleanup had no clue as to when the job was supposed to be finished. We get a voicemai, from Carlos asking him to call us back, and his response was not apologetic, but rather defensive. We reasonably asked what happened and what was the issue and what was he going to do to remedy this situation, and his response was of either pay me or don't. There was no reasoning, an apology or anything else for that matter. We will pay him his full amount as per his request but I would recommend ANYONE not to do any other business with him. The lack of professionalism or customer service will destroy any good work that may be performed. If anything, pay a little more to any of his competitors, but get much better service. read more

The low branches of this tree provided shade and a screen from our neighbor's house in the back. Every two or three years we "top" it. We hired Carlos Hernandez from Evergreen Tree & Shrub to cut six feet from the top of the tree. The contract said that he is doing the work. His men, who spoke little English, arrived one and a half hours late for the appointment on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Hernandez was not present to do the work or supervise the work. My husband repeated the instructions (to cut 6 feet from the top of the tree) to each of the two men. My husband went to open the gate of the next door neighbor to remove the debris. When he returned five or ten minutes later, all the lower branches of the tree had been cut off!! The result is that we have a bare trunk, no screen from neighbors and little shade. We feel that our tree has been ruined. Contrary to what Mr. Hernandez claims, the cut off branches will not grow back. read more

Unprofessional and disrespectful Setup an appointment for an estimate, 15 minutes past the scheduled time. The guy doesn't show up, gave them a call at the 718 number, the same guy i spoke to is running late. Begins to curse me out using the f word because I won't reschedule another time with him, saying i'm being unreasonable because he's late. The guy was still in Brooklyn! I told him he could of called me to tell me he was running late. I can't say much for their workmanship but if his attitude and personality is reflective of it, stay away! read more

Prompt service, but crew did not follow through on the planned tree removal, saying that they could not remove the stump without a special piece of equipment. The question was, since Carlos promised they would remove the stump, and saw the size of the stump, why did the crew not arrive with the appropriate equipment? Do not trust this company. read more

I was a little suprised at how well calling Evergreen worked out for me. After speaking with the owner, we agreed that he would send people to my home in Brooklyn the following day at 9am. They didn't get there till 11. Although they were late, I've gotta say that my trees have never looked better an the price he quoted me was very fair. I'll definitely call again if the pricing stays the same. He just has to fix lateness!! read more

Evergreen Tree and Shrub cut down a large maple tree in my back yard. In the process, they broke a lock on my gate, damaged my fence, destroyed a concrete step, trampled two garden areas, broke bricks and an edging fence around the gardens and broke three ceramic flower pots. I have left four messages and no one will address my concerns. Any company that has integrity would deal with this problem. Evergreen does not seem to have any. read more

I spoke with Carlos earlier this week and made an appointment for an estimate. The initial phone call was fine and the estimate was fine as well. Carlos was very friendly, punctual, and understood my request right away: to have a tree completely pruned to allow direct sunlight into our backyard and to remove another young tree that is destroying our fence. The morning of the appointment, was where it all went downhill. I called Carlos at 9am to confirm our 8 AM appointment and he said something about how he thought I called and left a message. Apparently, he thought I canceled or changed times (I don't know) but I immediately told him otherwise. He said he'd be on his way and apologized. I was willing to let that slide even though it was quite alarming. Two hours later, he's not only NOT here, when I call it goes straight to voicemail. Totally unprofessional and unreliable. This was an easy job (cut everything down and clear it out) and he messed up. What he doesn't know is that my neighbors were also going to ask him to prune their backyard trees-- it would have been A LOT of business. I'm very disappointed. I don't think I can trust him with this work or any work now that I see what sort of business he runs. read more
