I did not use Jose's LA Tree Service as a paying customer, but I am leaving this review because of the incredible integrity, courage, and character he showed when he helped me during a very dangerous situation. A bike carrier hitch failed on my vehicle while I was driving at highway speed. The carrier and bikes came off, landed upright, and spun around in the roadway. This could have caused a major accident. Jose, who happened to be nearby, avoided hitting it, stopped traffic, and took control of the situation. He carried the hitch and bikes to the side of the highway and then helped me safely navigate backing down the shoulder so I could retrieve everything. He had absolutely nothing to gain by helping me. In fact, he put himself at risk to protect other drivers and help a complete stranger. I tried to give him $50 as a thank-you, and he refused to accept it. All he asked was that I leave his business a good Google review and refer customers to him. Jose is a prince. Honest, brave, calm, and decent. This could have had a much worse outcome, and we were very lucky he was there. Based on his character alone, I would trust him and his business completely. They were recently removing a neighbor's tree and asked if they could use our driveway and backyard area to park their truck so they could have easier access to the tree. We agreed as a favor to be nice and they also said they would leave us some left over wood. We removed our cars and they were parked there using our driveway and worked throughout the morning and afternoon. While they were here they broke some of the concrete on our driveway, broke retaining wood from the garden area and left one of our collection of bricks in a messy pile. We have tried to call multiple times and contact the company and they hung up on us and will not pick up anymore. I do not recommend anyone work with a company that is so careless and doesn't take responsibility for their actions. The worst part is this tree removal service had nothing to do with us, we were just being helpful to allow them to use our backyard and driveway. And this was the result. read more

Jose gave a very reasonable quote out of all of the companies we asked. I needed a lot of overhanging trees trimmed all around my entire house and needed a very tall pine tree removed because it was covering half my house. Jose and his crew worked very efficiently. These guys were clearly experienced and worked well together. It took about 3 hours to finish the job and then they took about another 30 min to clean up the yard and pack up all their equipment. The giant pine tree was very close to my house and it was a tight space for them to work with, but they took it down to the stump without damaging anything. I'm very satisfied with their work. When I asked them to stop, they said it was not going to damage my car and were going to clean it up afterwards. When I asked them to stop again, foreman said he was 'working' and called me a M*****F****. Called the headquarters and was given the same treatment. They did take down the two trees I had engaged with them to remove and they did it in the agreed upon time frame. If that's all you care about, consider it a 5-star review. Jose is, I believe, the owner. He came out to inspect and to do the bid. 1st concern: We needed the job done quickly because we have poison ivy which had grown all over one of the two mature Ailanthus trees. I explained that to him, and we both said that the workers need to be protected. (We couldn't complete the eradication of the poison ivy until the trees were removed.) --- When the crew arrived, no one, including the foreman, Herman, had been informed of the poison ivy. Hello? Protect your workers?? 2nd concern: Jose said that they would be careful to cut the trees in small pieces and take them down with ropes, to avoid falling hunks of tree which could do damage. These trees were in between my next door neighbor's backyard and mine. He specifically said that the work would be done so that the only access required would be these two backyards. I paraphrased that to be sure we were on the same page and he readily confirmed. Another tree, which was not in our job was removed - a maple tree. The maple was (clearly) rooted on land owned by someone else who they did not contact. Don't you think the company should have made a quick phone call to check? Their contract was with me and they never bothered to check with me before changing the plan. Jose and I had reiterated over and over and over "just these two Ailanthus trees." 3rd concern: I pointedly asked Jose if he would personally be present during the job (because we had discussed several details -- see below). He said that he would definitely be there in the beginning, but might be coming and going during the job and would be there at the end of the job to be sure everything was done as planned. Jose did not show up at all. So, Herman (who was very polite), who knew exactly zero about the job, had to plow ahead without the benefit of job details from Jose. 4th concern: Jose said they would need to move my patio furniture. Fine, but I expressed a concern about returning everything to the exact places where each item was before moving. He assured me not to worry, that they do this all the time, and that "all" his clients are "always" so happy to see everything returned exactly in place. Reality -- Nothing was returned to its proper position, nothing. I am older, have weak bones, and the furniture is heavy. 5th concern: I had specifically asked Jose to be sure not to trample just 3-4 plants -- my lilies, my Lilies of the Valley, and my Elephant Ear plant which I had grown from a bulb. The lilies (which were almost 3 feet tall) were trampled onto their sides right onto the poison ivy. So, I cannot keep them -- and they look pretty dead anyway. The Lilies of the Valley are gone, all gone -- and the Elephant Ears plant was gone gone gone. In fact every single living thing in my backyard was GONE except for the two small dogwoods and the small magnolia bush (all three with broken off branches now). It was a lush garden and now I just have bare dirt. I am unhappy about how this job went down. read more

The crew did a fantastic job at cutting down the tree and making sure that it didnt hit anyone's property as I live in a fully attached house. Our big evergreen recently died. I found these guys online and they quoted me a very fair price to cut it down and get rid of the stump. The day of, showed up early and got to work. They were very professional and knew what they were doing. 4 man team. I'm not sure if they picked straws but the guy who actually climbed the tree had the hardest job. He climbed a 40 foot tree with a damn chainsaw on his belt. Branches first, then started cutting the tree little by little. The other three worked on getting rid of the junk he was dropping. After his long climb up and down, he then still had the energy to carry each tree trunk piece to the truck. I would've climbed 10 feet, cut my hand off, then came down and call it a day. Props to him. Finally they used a machine to get rid of the remaining stump. They cleaned everything after and were gone in less than an hour. Highly recommendee. Jose came and gave us a free estimate Explained everything, wrote it all down on contract along with pricing, everything seemed clear. We had a hard time getting back in touch with him to hire company for the job, called and texted multiple times, left messages.. nothing from him, no answer... we were about to hire someone else when finally someone from his office picked up the phone and explained that Jose was having " phone issues ". Anyways They came today, they guys did an amazing job, worked very hard , extremely professional, left everything clean. we were very happy with the service. They told us they wanted the money in cash, even thought that was not agreed upon ahead of time, we decided to go with it since we were so happy with them, gave them cash. However a short while after they left, we received an outraged phone call from Jose, first time we hear back from him since the estimate couple of weeks ago ( interesting enough his phone is now suddenly working, the guys were here for 3 hours he didn't even mind showing up or calling to see how things were going) very unprofessional yelling, accusing us of "hustling" his guys even though we had everything written down on the contract he made, and threatened us he will be coming back to dump all the tree debris into our driveway!!!!
