The upside is that it does cover some local issues, and is often the only source. The downside is that it tries to be everything to everybody, and as a result does nothing well. In my view it should cut out its own condensed versions of national news and stick to the local. The editorial view of this paper is over there on the right, at times in the "fascist pig" category. So skip the editorial page, and even the op-ed page, if you want to avoid having your blood boil. A daily columnist, Tom Bogert, is a gem and the only reason I continue to subscribe to this rag. I do not know how he does it every day, but he is always worth reading -- and not lined up with the editors' political views.

As she got older, she didn't notice that they were hiking the rate higher and higher until I took over as her Power of Attorney, looked at her checking account and they were charging her $406 PER MONTH ($13.50 per day delivery!). She has had YEARS of overpaying. New customers pay $.71-$1.43 per day, depending on their subscription plan. Any lawyers out there want to take on this Elder Abuse? I was pleased that they made cancellation easy. So easy that they don't even send a confirmation that you would need to look at. I had not been checking my credit card statements and just found that they never cancelled and have been charging me for about a year after I cancelled. I called customer service and was refused a refund even for the current month that they just charged yesterday. Don't give any money to this sleazy outfit.

It used to be a great paper with very high quality articles, opinion pieces, sports, and entertainment. In fact when I went away to school in the 80s I would buy the Sunday edition at a liquor store in Cincinnati, at great cost, because I missed the writing so much. I thought it must be like that now when I recently resubscribed. Sadly, the current newspaper is of very low quality in terms of the writing. There are still a handful of great writers but most of the articles are poorly written with no cohesion, little useful information, and no obvious editing; essentially terrible writing. And often there is an accompanying photo that has nothing to do with the article. At first I thought AI was writing the articles but I believe AI would do a better job. I already knew that the subscription price of $160 was not refundable but cancelling just now felt so good just on principle. I can only recommend that you don't waste your money like I did.

But memory button #1 is set at 88.9, public radio from Loyola Marymount University in Westchester. To me, a sporadic indie-music listener, almost everything KXLU plays is uncommon, refreshing, and a hopeful note for music's present and future. Some of the DJs are noticeably underripe, but it's fun to hear young broadcasters as they develop their air personas. The station streams live on kxlu.com, and could broaden one's tastes with its variety of specialty programs, some including "noise music" (Oh, how I wish a radio station would have played that back in the homework days). TIME-WARP DIALOG...Mom: "What's that NOISE you're listening to?" Young KXLU Listener: "Noise, mom." International music consists of mostly Latin titles as played on its durable weekend fixture, "Alma del Barrio," bringing to mind loitering over empty pitchers of sangria at Venice Boulevard's Versailles Cuban restaurant. After a lengthy listening hiatus, it was a delight to find an old favorite, Reverend Dan, still hosting "Music for Nimrods," a program in the spirit of '70s phenoms Frazer Smith, Rodney Bingenheimer (both on KROQ) and Dr. Demento (KPPC, KMET); a bonanza of old, new, rare and novelty tracks, and DJ patter nimbly fitted to end with his production-music backing tune. It's a great segue into a Saturday hangover (3-6 a.m.). My recent return to KXLU, due to disgust at blocks of radio commercials with occasional rock-music interruptions, has me hoping it won't be necessary to again work the TEAC remote's memory buttons--except for maybe #3, The Wave.

Even if you visit the stores they have listed, you won't be able to find the paper. Talk to the employees there and they will explain the paper NEVER shows up. On top of that, they were very difficult to deal with and unprofessional. Despite addressing all of our concerns, they still have not processed a refund. I'm not even sure if they can be considered a legitimate company, as they are a complete joke. This is a full scam so buyer beware. Use other advertising strategies.

I'd like this thing to have a local scoop but it doesn't. The lead story here is the Venice freak show which had had a reality TV show for what? 3 seasons. I open it up. Ads ads some NIMBY letters to the editor, ads. Every now and then they have recommendation articles by people who I think are perfectly content at the 7/11 grab n go by how the lists turn out. I feel sufficiently less informed and have increasingly less insight into my community as I turn each page. Valuable memory space gets filled with these um fills? This production studio is home to over 28 sound stages, concierge services, production offices, MBS Cafe, parking structure, Expendables Studio Store and my favorite are their EV chargers. MBS Media Campus promotes green energy and they try to reduce the overall carbon footprint. If you have an electronic vehicle, they provide 10 free electronic chargers which you will need the EV Connect App to use them, with a 3 hour limit. The Concierge also offers free EV Charger service. Just park in a concierge designated spot and drop off your keys, pick up at security when your day is over. Plenty of other Concierge services are also available. They provide service like Dry Cleaning, Shoe-Shine and Repair, Dog Walking Service, and EV Car Service just to name a few. MBS Media campus also has a "New York Street". This area has resturant and home fronts or this area can be used for special event rentals. MBS does have an offsite backlot that is not attached to the to the studio. MBS has been the production home to some the most memorable TV shows and movies of all time. They specialize in cutting edge technology on their sound stages and is currently home to some of the most Iconic SYFY related Television shows. MBS is In compliance with the CDC, and has an in depth COVID-19 operating Protocol, MBS provides a safe, clean and healthy work environment. The COVID compliance officers that I have met have have been very nice and accommodating. MBS does offer tours, you must be a guest or work at the studio to enter. Not open to the public.

In fact, it was the very first episode to feature new host Alphonso Ribiero. At the time of this review, the premier of the 26th season and the 1st to showcase Al (as production staff called him) has not even aired. So I will not get into the videos that will be seen. What I can tell you is that we had a great time. We were told to dress nice and my friend was given a card that said she was a finalist for best dressed. I should have been a male finalist with my suit and homemade plaid bow tie but I guess I was overlooked. At least she was honored. Best of all, we laughed and cheered for almost the entire 3 1/2 hours it took to film. Upon arrival, we were greated by very professional yet friendly gate guards who checked my ID and directed me to the nearby parking structure where we would show our tickets and sign our waivers for appearing on film. The staff here, not affiliated with the studio, were OK. Some were friendly. Some were maybe a bit gruff with us. They were repeatedly telling people that is was the last chance they would have to use the restroom for many hours once filming started. At least the restrooms were near and clean. A star for the studio. We were all standing outside in the sun during this time with nowhere to sit and nowhere to complete the release forms. I wish the studio had a better facility for that. Having stood in one place long enough it was time to move into the depths of the MBS lot. We walked single file like kids in school past parking lots and sound stages. Past fake plants and real. We walked single file until we reached the sound stage AFV is filmed on. And then we stood on line again. Then, ten people at a time were called into the studio for security check. It was a short but appreciated break from standing in the summer SoCal sun. Then it was back outside to stand on line yet again. I did get to see a celebrity while waiting so that was cool. It was Robert Irvine from Food Network driving by. That was part of an almost two hour wait but we were finally brought inside and seated. Then the magic began. Television magic is special thing. To see how some of our favorite shows are created is a passion of mine. If I had the chance to work at a studio, I would be happy. Seeing all the faces and equipment that go into a production is fascinating. Visiting MBS for AFV is no exception. I was enthralled by the movement of certain seat-fillers and standby audience memebers. They were shuffled between each segment depending on where our host was filming and where the cameras were positioned. You would never know all the behind the scenes goings-on from the final product that aires at a later date (October 11, 2015 in this case). And therein lies the magic. Having spent several hours on the MBS Media Campus both outside and in, I feel I am at least marginally familiar with the studio facility. I can tell you that it is very clean and well maintained. It looks and feels much newer than some other studios I have been too. It really is a nice facility. And its near the beach. It doesn't get much better than that.

It was a grueling open-ocean race dominated historically by only men. But in 1989, a young woman put together an all-female crew to challenge that. The Document invited hundreds of KCRW members to attend, so I RSVP'd. And I'm glad that I did. Family day at KCRW was held this past March 8th, 2025 and it was a heap of fun. Personnel were…read moreincredibly welcoming given the chaos of so many children and parents involved. They had stations for weaving and a badge/story telling set up. In addition, there was a full day of scheduled music events that were hands on and allowed children to use the musical instruments! My child's favorite was the pie making station activity. He bow wants to make pies every day!!! This one is in for the books and highly recommend this event to all families!
