Aloha all; I am an avid golfer and like most courses because of the challenges but the city and county of hawaii needs to spend more time on quality instead of hiring people that have no golf course maintenace experience. The course has recently been really dry and has a lot of dirt and rocks.. it could be a great course but needs some real love and care. Hope someone reads this that has pull.

Yes, played Ewa Villages after a very long period! 7-22-18! The greens are massively improved and the fairways are better. BUT the greens need to be faster. They are so slow that I had a hard time reaching the hole. On one hole I used 5 iron off the green to get enough roll to the hole. It would be interesting to see the speed on the stimpmeter. Still has nice people and the cart guy was hilarious!

Honestly this golf course is as nice as any old golf course in Hawaii but there are some definite caveats. First of all if you play 9 hole by yourself after 3:15 pm YOU WILL NOT BE RIDING IN A GOLF CART. Leanred that the hard way. I play by myself because I am a beginner.I just showed up there, 30 min before my tee time and was told to tee off and follow the group in front of me. I would not say that the Japanese cashier was rude to me like other reviewers, but he was emotionally detached definitely. With a golf ID, Kamaaina rate was $15 for me but honestly you get what you pay for. No offense Ewa Beach but I did not have a high expectation about this golf course that was near the housing. This is a public golf course so I doubt the management cares about local residents casually treating the golf course as their own personal park. Which was the case at the 9th hole. I stood in the tee box and looked right at this local family chasing their dog on the golf course. This was on the 9th hole and the first time I walked the course. So by this time I was tired enough to just walk to my car knowing I just didn't play one hole. But I will say to expect this at the 9 hole. No offense Ewa Beach residents but you can't change how these people are. They do not care at all that they are not supposed to be here. I am trying to be politically correct about this. Although I had some caveats, I don't feel too upset because although I could not play one hole due to circumstances that were out of my control, I only paid 15 bucks. If you play here expect some caveats.

Course was really green despite it being summer because of the rains. But the course was in good shape and still the best municipal course. However the County website was wrong re 9-hole hours. The website says "New Hours effective 5/18/2018 will be the same as Ted Makalena" hours which says 3pm on the Makalena website. But here it's actually 2:15pm. I tried to get a smile or reaction out of the cashier, but he was still deadpan and unfriendly. Starter was very nice. We got a grab and go sandwich from the restaurant which is closed for renovations starting now to Aug 2019. The sandwiches were like 711 quality and my friend threw hers away after a couple bites. We were disappointed they were closed as we were looking forward to cocktails and lunch. Instead we had canned beer and a sad sandwich. But as far as golf, I really like the front 9 which we walked. Lots of ball washer stations and water coolers.

Great course. Bring extra balls lol. Some Fairways are narrow. Par is 73! Got 5 par 5s.

Good course love the layout. Fairways were a little spotty and send traps were not in great shape but I would play there again.

Course is well maintained compared to 8 years ago, its dry on some parts of the rough and fairways but the greens are green

A lot goes into keeping the greens, and courses on Oahu, from having either being overly soaked, out or the opposite, becoming brittle and difficult to manage while playing golf. The fairways and scenery were really green and beautiful, for the full 18 holes. Upon arrival, the parking lot is semi covered by solar panels, and as you pull in, easy to navigate towards the clubhouse and proshop. Several options for hats and a few visors to choose from. Clothing and accessories are very affordable as well. The dining area served pretty good food. I was here for a tournament, so the food on the course was supplied, and also delicious, but I am not sure by whom. Friendly and helpful proshop staff as well! The carts were equipped with electronic GPS and never had any issues. I can't wait to play this public course again!

Pro shop has a good assortment of apparel and equipment. No practice driving range. Only downside here is the incredibly loud noise levels from the adjacent HNL airport (the arriving aircraft literally are just a hundred feet overhead on some sections of the golf course) and the adjacent military base which was having constant practice automatic weapon fire drills during my entire 4.5 hour golf game. Bring ear plugs and enjoy the game.

It's a beautiful layout and definitely enjoyable to play. Unfortunately, the customer service, especially from the staff handling the golf carts, was a completely different story. When you try to talk to them, they don't even acknowledge you. My friend attempted to make a simple conversation and was flat-out ignored. No response, no eye contact--nothing. It comes off as extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. At one point, I was waiting to board, and instead of giving any kind of direction, the attendant just threw his hands up like I was supposed to know what to do. No communication at all. That's not how you treat paying customers. I understand everyone has bad days, but if you're working in customer service, basic courtesy is part of the job. If that's something you can't handle, this probably isn't the right line of work. It's disappointing because the course itself is solid, but experiences like this make you think twice about coming back. Good thing I'm not the owner or supervisor because I would terminate all of them and make an example of them.

As luck would have it, the person who reached out and was available at the time was the head PGA instructor Oliver. I was a little unprepared (no clubs, no gloves), but Oliver was very much go with the flow and was able to accomodate me. He asked me what I wanted to work on, and that's exactly what we did. I improved immensely, because Oliver was able to quickly diagnose the main problems with my swing and explain in an uncomplicated way (without too many "swing thoughts"). They took our clubs at the parking lot stand and placed the clubs on our cart. We grabbed a few clubs and walked over to the grass range, which was in decent shape. The course is great for all skill levels because it's pretty wide open and very well manicured. The rough is cut down pretty low so even if you miss the fairway, you still gotta shot at it. Playing the blues, the course is pretty long but manageable. The greens were in great shape and bunkers were great looking, although luckily I didn't have to play out of any of them. While it's a well maintained course, I thought the layout was kinda boring and predictable. Lots of good views and photo ops around the course, although the course has minimal ocean views. We had some vouchers from our hotel which we could use at the pro shop but not the snack bar. We ended up with a couple of bag tags, ball markers and a logo ball (gift set) which they engrave your name in the bag tag which is pretty cool for $20 for everything. The rest of the pro shop is pretty pricey though. Overall, glad we got to play it. I think the price point is what would keep me from playing again, but it's hard to beat when it's less than 5 minutes from our hotel. We got paired with a great couple, shout out Chuck and Cindy who were also visiting. It made for a memorable and fun day out on the course.
