The course is probably the best of the muni courses. There is some work being done to it presently which is a good thing. The greens are very good. The fairways are not bad. All in all it's a course that is challenging and fun to play. There was some flooding on the 18th hole. And a couple of holes the tee boxes were moved and put together for repairs to part of the fairways. The best way to keep these municipal courses up and running is to patron them when you can. They also have a new restaurant there that has good food at reasonable prices. They are open until 6 pm. read more

Absolutely terrible experience on May 15, 2026. Management should look into who was working check-in that day because the staff were disrespectful from the start and even threatened to kick us off the course for no legitimate reason. Completely unnecessary and incredibly unprofessional. To make matters worse, one of the golf cart wheels went flat/deflated during our round, and when we tried calling for assistance, nobody answered the phone and nobody came to help. We were basically left stranded, and it completely ruined the round. On top of the awful service, the course conditions were unacceptable. The fairways were honestly about 50% dirt and 50% hard, dead grass. The greens looked like they haven't been maintained in a long time and rolled terribly. If you're charging people to play here, at minimum there should be basic customer service, functioning equipment, and a course that's actually maintained. Huge disappointment. Management should absolutely review who was on shift today because this level of service is unacceptable. read more

For a muni course Ewa Villages is not bad. I only will give a five star to a course that is in oustanding condition ready for a PGA tournament. The track or layout is fairly flat with a few undulations its a blend of Links and Parkland style course, typical of many Hawaiian courses. The greens can be from good to poor. I'd say over the years mostly good. Of course this does not mean excellent to outstanding. I'd say a little above average for Oahu's muni courses. Bring your water, or refreshments and snacks as there is no service on the course and since COVID no restaurant at the club house. They've changed the sign up methods recently (Oct 2021) so you get to call the course directly. Its a fair track that I will -play again, because the price is not bad about $39 with cart. read more

I had a great time course was not nearly as bad as some of the reviews on here. Greens were nice and sure some dry patches in a few fairways but overall pretty good for a muni. The bummer is the club house is closed and not operating so no food or drinks... there is a drink vending machine but no beers etc... also the pace of play was pretty bad and slow. Play there couple times a month. Best greens and fairways of all the munis. Only gets backed up on weekends and holidays. A deceptively grueling stroll if you are walking. Looks flat but it's not. The restaurant just had a facelift and looks inviting. We didn't stop in today as we had to be somewhere. Will definitely hang there in the future. Aloha all; I am an avid golfer and like most courses because of the challenges but the city and county of hawaii needs to spend more time on quality instead of hiring people that have no golf course maintenace experience. Yes, played Ewa Villages after a very long period! 7-22-18! The greens are massively improved and the fairways are better. BUT the greens need to be faster. They are so slow that I had a hard time reaching the hole. On one hole I used 5 iron off the green to get enough roll to the hole. It would be interesting to see the speed on the stimpmeter. Honestly this golf course is as nice as any old golf course in Hawaii but there are some definite caveats. First of all if you play 9 hole by yourself after 3:15 pm YOU WILL NOT BE RIDING IN A GOLF CART. Leanred that the hard way. I play by myself because I am a beginner.I just showed up there, 30 min before my tee time and was told to tee off and follow the group in front of me. I would not say that the Japanese cashier was rude to me like other reviewers, but he was emotionally detached definitely. With a golf ID, Kamaaina rate was $15 for me but honestly you get what you pay for. No offense Ewa Beach but I did not have a high expectation about this golf course that was near the housing. This is a public golf course so I doubt the management cares about local residents casually treating the golf course as their own personal park. Which was the case at the 9th hole. I stood in the tee box and looked right at this local family chasing their dog on the golf course. This was on the 9th hole and the first time I walked the course. So by this time I was tired enough to just walk to my car knowing I just didn't play one hole. But I will say to expect this at the 9 hole. No offense Ewa Beach residents but you can't change how these people are. They do not care at all that they are not supposed to be here. I am trying to be politically correct about this. Although I had some caveats, I don't feel too upset because although I could not play one hole due to circumstances that were out of my control, I only paid 15 bucks. Of all the affordable golf courses that I've been to, I like this one the most. Mainly because it's more alive then most places. There's actual people in the dining area (and of course on the field). The other places that I've been to were so empty, like an apocalypse happened. Jokes aside, I think the course here is a little challenging for me since I'm a beginner. My boyfriend, a pretty average golfer seems to like it here though. There are few water hazards but not as many as Kapolei. As for the food, I enjoyed the first tastings. Course was really green despite it being summer because of the rains. But the course was in good shape and still the best municipal course. However the County website was wrong re 9-hole hours. The website says "New Hours effective 5/18/2018 will be the same as Ted Makalena" hours which says 3pm on the Makalena website. But here it's actually 2:15pm. I tried to get a smile or reaction out of the cashier, but he was still deadpan and unfriendly. Starter was very nice. We got a grab and go sandwich from the restaurant which is closed for renovations starting now to Aug 2019. The sandwiches were like 711 quality and my friend threw hers away after a couple bites. We were disappointed they were closed as we were looking forward to cocktails and lunch. Instead we had canned beer and a sad sandwich. But as far as golf, I really like the front 9 which we walked. We enjoy playing here..it's a challenging and fairly well-kept municipal golf course. Some of the holes are long with varying terrain plus there are water features and ravines bordering some holes? You get a 2-for-1 deal...a relatively inexpensive round of golf with scenery AND a health benefiting walk! This course often seems to play longer especially on holes that you play into the wind (think 1st, 3rd and 17th holes). During the weekdays, this course isn't too crowded but when it does, players will move along. Perhaps, there are better players here instead of more beginners?? We always come back for that "highlight shot" or lower score or just the camaraderie gained during a round of golf at Ewa Villages. read more

One of the better municipal courses in Hawaii. I rate it 3 stars because it it nothing compared to Private Courses like Ko Olina or Waikele. Water is usually only for Par 3 holes, trees are usually only on the sides of the fairways and greens. The greens are pretty good for a muni course but wind can be a big factor on most holes. Overall, this course is reasonable for any golf ability. I shoot in the 90s and it's not to hard. Although I don't feel that much people play here, there is always a group in front of you that takes forever. Bring water because it's hot out there and a bunch of golf balls, because I seem to lose a lot when I play here. You should golf here if you kind of know how to play the game of golf, but aren't that amazing at it. read more

First time here. Didn't book for a tee time as we normally do but Tuesday 10am was open for aa walk on 18 hole run. Because we have a card price is reasonable. It rained all last week so the grounds were still kind of muddy. We were able to drive on the greens so that was a plus. Course is hard but fun. read more

My girlfriend and I are casual golfers who prefer low key muni courses over ultra expensive resort courses. Given Covid-19 restrictions in place, Oahu's Municipal Courses are doing a decent job of staying open and enabling golfers to escape lockdown and play. My girlfriend and I were on the 6th hole yesterday of what to that point was an enjoyable 9 hole round. Just as we strolled up to the tee box, a black scooter with 3 (yes that's right...I said 3) young, local native, teenage males aboard rode out from the left cart path down onto the fairway and up onto the green. With zero regard for us, they proceeded to treat the green, it's surrounding bunkers and hilly terrain as their personal trick race course, doing donuts and getting airborne as they jumped over various bumps and small hills. They saw us and paid no regard. As we approached the green with our second shots, they backed off, but as we walked up to the green, they sat on their ride and smirked. They were fearless and I believe drunk as they passed a thermos back and forth. Though many homes border the area, no one was home or outdoors on a weekday afternoon so we were very much on our own. As soon as we finished putting and walked to our cart, they started up the scooter and resumed their shenanigans. I'd had enough of these juvenile delinquents so we skipped the rest of the holes and drove back to the clubhouse. The manager apologized and said he would call HPD, but we saw no sign of them. He was fine with us finishing our round on the back 9, but our round was ruined. Beware Oahu's muni courses where I'm now learning juvenile delinquents are apparently an on-going issue. read more

I'm just catching the golf bug and now played about 30 times at various muni's and public and private courses since COVID started. But this place has a super rude Japanese cashier and Portagee cashier who I have encountered on 2 separate weekends. One said we all need to check in together which is fine but proceeded to say, shout, "I know u all excited (in pidgin) but you all gotta be together when u come up to this desk!".... The Japanese guy said "if ur friend no show up in 5 minutes then he can't play (which is still 35 min before our tee time). Essentially he is saying that we need to check in 30 min advance and said it is right here in writing. But dude needs to get off his power trip and put that in writing in the City and County website. It does NOT say that. So next time get the names of these employees bc they don't deserve a job. Also, every course has so many different rules and attitudes and types of workers that golfers, we should just arrive 1 hour earlier since we average people without political or inside connections have already spent 1.5 hours calling the reservation system only to find out that Ala Wai and Makalena spots have already been booked in less than a minute after the reservation calling system opens. Something is not right and some of these employees may be getting kickbacks. Ethical? No. Otherwise this Ewa Villages course is one of the nicer municipal courses for little but cheaper than privates. Btw the cart barn guy is the nicest guy that cleans the carts. We had a 1pm tee time and we checked in at 12:50pm. The employee stated our tee time was canceled because they did a final call 15 minutes before so we couldn't play. He further explained that they start each group every 6 minutes. A golfer in line in front of me canceled his 1:30pm tee time so I asked if we could take that tee time. The employee said "No, you can't just take someone else's tee time". I countered that the 1:30pm was canceled so why not? The employee simply said "Covid rules". So, that negates his first explanation of the timing issue. This employee was determined not to let us play even though it was absolutely possible especially with the cancellation. Ewa Villages is probably my favorite muni golf course. It is surprisingly long. It is not in great shape like most munis, but for unknown reasons the third green is ridiculously nice. I don't know why but it is perfect, it's like it lays on a secret water spring of nutrient rich water or something. Maybe I shouldn't speculate on what the source of fertilization is. Ewa Villages can be both windy and hot. I like the wind when it gets behind me though and I can pretend that I can really launch a golf ball, particularly from elevated tees. Rarely is it crowded in the afternoon and the neighborhood where it resides is very quiet with a hint of remembrance towards the old plantation days. read more

I'm writing this review with a heavy dose of reluctance. It's a mystery why not many people come to golf at this course, but I like it that way. The greens, fairways, ball cleaners, water stations--everything, is well kept. They have a nice restaurant/bar. The staff at the restaurant and starter's window are humorous, laid back and friendly. Unlike some of the stressed out staff at Uber busy Ala Wai. The only downfall is that there is no driving range, but if it is part of the reason why not many people go there, so be it. If you are looking for a good course to golf, go to Ala Wai, it has a driving range and many people to meet. read more

One of the better municipal golf courses on Oahu. I was surprised how well kept the golf course was. The greens are surprisingly "green" and the ball rolls well, the fairways have actual grass and you aren't hitting off hard dirt, and there are one or two holes that are quite nice to look at. A weekday round of golf with a cart is only $28, which you can't really beat considering courses can easily cost 40-50 dollars. -The course itself isn't too hard, as there are five par 5s which gives you more opportunities to score lower. -Make sure you bring snacks as they currently do not have a snack bar. So if you're starving at the turn you are sadly out of luck. -There are a few water coolers throughout the course, but there aren't too many restrooms...just FYI on that. -Make sure to read the signs as there are a few holes where there is a blind turn and you can't see if the group ahead of you is still on the fairway. For the price you get a better than average course and you really can't go wrong with that. read more

This place is a cool hang out to get together with friends. It's owned by locals and they are very friendly. They are renovating the place slowly and it is coming out nice! The pupus are great especially their streak, onions and mushrooms and furikaki French fries. The sashimi is fresh and also delish! They also have local bands that play here. I think its a great course for the money. Probably the best kept course you can play with a cart for under $40 on Oahu. The starter is very nice and accommodating and so is most the staff. A few greens need some work as they have dirt patches. Other then that the course plays well and offers some easy to intermediate challenges. Cool water features on the front 9 as well. read more
