We'd circled the town multiple times before a policeman advised him that the hotel is on a street where cars aren't allowed. Hotel 1850 is located right on the Jardin de la Union, the most central gathering place in all of Guanajuato. Yes, you can't get there by car but hotel staff is happy to meet you one short block away to guide you and your luggage directly there. And from there? Well, this is the perfect location for everything you may wish to do in Guanajuato City. I spent 3 nights here, at a cost of about $227US per night and that included daily breakfast for 2 at the restaurant beside the hotel. My room was nicely decorated, immaculate, featured a safe, mini-bar, ample hot water, and good water pressure. A rooftop bar plays loud music so I was pleased to be on a low floor but there's also a lot of music in the Jardin out front. Happily, closing tight the windows in the room drowned out all outside sound. The hotel itself is quite nice and safe, with a doorman and workers always right up front. Staff were warm and hospitable and versed in English. I didn't ask much of anything but they made it clear they could make arrangements for wherever I might wish to go or anything I might wish to see. On site spa services and a gym add to the offerings. I chose Hotel 1850 after doing a lot of research and was pleased to learn that I'd chosen well.

The hotel, formerly a luxury residence (our understanding) is beautifully appointed. However, while we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine upon check-in, that was a one-time only gesture. Additionally, when we asked for an extra coffee pod (and powder creamer) for our in-room coffee maker, we were advised that the cost would be 35 MX pesos ($1.88 US). For a hotel that charges upwards of $300/night, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That's pretty cheesy. Most of all, I would suggest some TOWEL RACKS and CLOTHING HOOKS. There is nowhere to hang either. Our room, very pretty, lacked bathroom privacy--one would step totally naked out of the shower into the main room (here, a few hooks for the hotel bathrobe would be helpful). I HIGHLY suggest a shower bar so that one might adjust the shower head, as well as the larger receptacles for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. I love the L'Occtaine brand, but it is sometimes impossible to squeeze lotions out. The service itself was GREAT!!!!

Great way to admire the architecture of the city and enjoy the colors of the houses below! One of a kind experience, it doesn't take long to get up there and the price is reasonable. Spend as much as you'd like to look around and admire the vista. Bring a good camera with a zoom lens. Fun activity that get you to see Guanajato from various angles! Nice photo ops while you reach the top and a small historic museum, great to check out! Breathtaking views! And a fun adventure!

Although it doesn't rise to the highest parts of town, Guanajuato's funicular is worth the ride for…read morethe efficiency of the experience and the views en route. From below, you'll see the steep stairs beside the funicular. These are not available to climb. Rather, get yourself a one-way ticket and navigate the appropriate stairs/path to get back to the town's main street. It's impossible to get truly lost on the way down and once you get down you'll know how to get back up without the funicular if you later choose to do so (the walk up takes about 15 minutes). At the top of the Funicular are a series of shops and then, a bit further up, the al Pipila Monument. I did no research but was told by someone knowledgeable that al Pipila is Mexico's Paul Revere. More great photos can be snapped from the place right below al Pipila. Cheap and fun and easy to navigate, if you're in Guanajuato you should definitely try the funicular at least once.

I just go in for the bakery because I have a place to stay in town. Their guava pan is heaven…read moreitself. I try to get one almost every day when I'm in Guanajuato. The only problem is they sell out of them, so you sometimes have to go early if one of the hotel guests has caught on to the delicious guava pan!!

Whatever we asked they right away were so happy to help. Really this town is just full of friendly people, but it's greatly appreciated when you're staying in a new place where you barely speak the language. And the bar right next to the pool was really one of the best in town. We and some friends have tried a few others in town and there's some decent ones, and maybe like two others I'd recommend, but this one is top notch people. Oh and the view..... the view!!! Stunning. Come here. Stay here. This town.......this hotel.........you won't regret it. Hey.......have I mentioned the VIEW!? Because, guys! THE VIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They started us out with toast, strawberry jam and butter. We also had a strawberry smoothie and coffee. I do recommend this place for breakfast.
