I decided to come here for lunch after overhearing someone talk about a "crunchwrap restaurant" and I definitely made the right decision. Instead of a crunchwrap I decided to order a burrito and got the chicken plantain burrito with no cheese and added guac. The burrito took about 10 minutes to come out and it was absolutely FANTASTIC! If you haven't tried Ex Voto's crunchwraps, then you're missing out! Got the beef barbacoa crunchwrap which was stuffed with beef short rib, pickled onions, guac and lettuce. The outside of the wrap is crispy as it is sealed with a layer of cheese and all of the different fillings come together and are so juicy and flavorful. Portions are large and super filling! The chips/salsa were pretty average. Our food was prepared quickly and there was no trouble finding seating on a weekday evening. read more

We were so excited to try the "infamous 1 pound" crunchwraps from Ex-Voto, which is inside the Durham Food Hall. The service was prompt - We waited only about 10 minutes and our name was announced over their speaker. The actual food stand was adorable and had some fun decorations! We got there right at 10am when they open on Saturdays and ordered at the counter. I got the chorizo crunchwrap, my husband got the beef barbacoa crunchwrap, and sides of fire-roasted salsa, chipotle sour cream, and house hot sauce. The chorizo crunchwrap was beautifully greasy and spicy (as you'd expect and hope for with chorizo ) and the chipotle sour cream added that creaminess and helped cool off the spice. The beef barbacoa crunchwrap was less spicy - the barbacoa was so juicy and the pickled onions here added a lovely acidity and sweetness. We added some house hot sauce and chipotle sour cream to this which added that creaminess and spiciness. These crunchwraps are famous for a reason! The queso was fabulous. the guacamole needed something like lime/salt- it wasn't like horrible but it was quite mediocre. Went to Ex Voto for a late lunch today and from the experience I had about a year ago to today a lot has changed and not in a good way. First, the service was very lackluster with the staff not being very warming and kind. I asked about their tacos, as they were around a year ago, but unfortunately I was told with a little jab that they are no longer on the menu. So, I decided after reviewing their menu to get the seven layer bowl. The bowl comes with a heaping amount of rice, beans, guacamole, Pico de gallo, and cheese--wow, so much food! Unfortunately the quality just was not there. It had an odd after taste that I did not enjoy and it was a little on the salty side. I couldn't finish my food and after spending $17 it made me very sad that I will now have to spend more money to get full. Three stars for the amount of food you receive for what you pay. You definitely get two or three meals out of your leftovers. But, the quality is not there. I definitely had sticker shock at first but it is a good amount in the portion, and my partner and I can often split a single one if not overly hungry. It was also served with their hoop cheese which is essentially a cheese crust on the outside of the tortilla. The short rib was nice and tender but it was pretty bland and could use a ton of salsa. I think this had a lot of potential but the juices from the pico de gallo made the tortilla really soggy despite having a cheese outer shell. I kinda just ate around the tortilla. Can't quite compare to a crunch wrap supreme from taco bell.... It's inside of a food hall hall which had plenty of seating. This is a solid Crunchwrap! It's like a better version of Taco Bell's Crunchwrap with cheese on top. I will say it gets soggy fast so eat it quickly. Will definitely have to come back to try the other items. The atmosphere is pretty cool since it's inside the food hall. We ordered food through Durham Delivers which was set up by our neighborhood. We were able to order online and pickup outside at our clubhouse. I absolutely love that this was an option for us. We are still not comfortable dining out due to Covid and this makes it so easy for us to get takeout and support local restaurants! The food was awesome! We had Rajas Poblanas Bowls. These were tasty and the perfect amount of spicy! We also ordered a half pint of the fire-roasted salsa and paired it with some our own tortilla chips at home. The salsa was also really good! This place had me at crunch wrap supreme. Plus it's in a food hall, so what's not to like? Covid-19: you can order and pay online. The food hall was empty when I went in to pick mine up. It was set up to be one way. There are a couple of small tables to eat at outside if it's not too cold. We got the Chorizo-Wrap Supremo and a Chicken and Plantain Burrito. The burrito was good, but I was hoping for a little more plantain flavor. The star of the show was the Chorizo-Wrap Supremo. As a huge Crunch Wrap Supreme fan, this was perfect. It's obviously much better than a crunch wrap supreme, but it had all of the same elements. I loved the use of chorizo too. It was absolutely delicious. As a foodie, I have to say that Food Halls hold a special place in my heart. The concept to put a variety of places under one roof is pure genius, if you ask me. They started building the Durham Food Hall right as we were relocating to Charlotte. They opened their doors right in the middle of COVID, so we didn't get a chance to drive down and give them a try. More recently a friend of mine decided to finally go and it absolutely loved it! We decided to give the first try to Ex-Voto and it was definitely a great choice! They offer "fast-casual" Mexican cuisine, using local produce, herbs and spices as much as possible. Their food is freshly made in-house and you can definitely taste it. My friend got the seven layer burrito bowl with the beef short rib barbacoa, and I got the short rib barbacoa crunchwrap - both were sooo delicious!! Went with daughter and her kids, menu was diverse enough to satisfy all. The chorizo Crunchwrap was great, surprisingly meaty yet complex in the variety of components, completely filling me up. The veggie crunchwraps were also a hit and the beverages were all great and a mix of familiar and novel. Saturday at noon was crazy busy yet they got the food out quickly and the quality was top notch. The food hall is a madhouse but the vibe is fun and pretty cool so no one complained about the noise. I first tried Ex Voto when they were doing pop-ups across Durham and quickly realized they were worth waiting in long lines because the food is so good. I have never had anything that I didn't thoroughly enjoy (although it ranges from delicious to absolutely delicious). Their space in the food hall does not disappoint. The burritos are fantastic (get them dirty sealed in cheese) and I actually prefer the veggie burritos. The Sonoran hot dog is fantastic and I haven't been able to get one in this area. The crunch wraps are also great especially if you don't want as much food as the burrito. I don't usually like nachos and the nacho kit was delectable. I still haven't gotten to try the wings because they sell out so quickly. The pickup at the food hall is very easy (order on the app and it will be on the table) but be sure to order early because they will sell out. I can't wait for them to continue expanding their menu because their tacos and tamales are amazing. I wish they could also have a margarita to go with the food (or maybe partner with the Auctioneer?)-- that's really the only way the Ex Voto experience could get better. read more

The menu describes it best, stating that "It's like Taco Bell's Crunchwrap Supreme on steroids." Ex-Voto is located in Durham Food Hall which offers a number of food and drink options all under one roof. These food halls are becoming more and more popular, and I'm a big fan. My wife and I were in Durham for the weekend and I happened to see a picture of the Chorizo Crunchwrap as I was perusing Yelp. I knew that we had to go experience this thing. The ordering process is supposed to be scan a QR code and then order on your phone. Seems like a good process, but that requires there to be LTE and/or WIFI. Even though Durham Food Hall has its own WIFI, it was not working at all. According to the owner of Ex-Voto, that happens all of the time. It could have been a frustrating experience that turned us away, but the owner quickly saved the day by taking orders himself and apologizing. It was a Master Class in how to handle the situation. Then, even though they were slammed, understaffed, and getting flooded with online orders, he apologized for our food taking ten minutes. Even on a normal day when everything is running smoothly, there is no need to apologize for ten mins to get food. I absolutely loved this place, and it will be on my short list of must go back to in Durham. The Crunchwrap was amazing, the service was top notch, and the owner was a class act. This next part is for Durham Food Hall management that they will probably never see: **Make sure that you have reliable WIFI for the businesses that pay your bills and paychecks. I came in for the first time, mostly because their Barbacoa Short Rib CrunchWrap seems to feature in every review of the Durham Food Hall. At $19, it's not a cheap lunch, but Wow!, is it tasty! Great variety of spices and flavors, from the crisped cheese on the outside of the tortilla to the sauces and combination of ingredients inside. Unless you have a huge appetite, cut it in half right away and wrap up the other half for another meal - it's a LOT of food, and you'll savor it for a good while. Service is walk-up or through the QR code on the bar. Pickup window is around the corner from the cashier, and while it's not a restaurant fashion photo presentation, it makes up for every bit of that in flavor!
