Queso Monster Food Truck is one of the prime examples of where the lore of the line heavily outweighs the satisfaction. Almost always will you see a humongous line at this truck - so much that the past few events I've been to, they've brought a separate truck just for their Elotes and drinks. First the Elotes - pretty good for the most part. My issue...the price. At LEAST $5.50 for one Elote, pretty high knowing it's one piece of corn with its usual toppings. Their Walking Elotes is $10! What that is is a personal sized bag of chips with elote toppings inside. The quesabirria is what I (and what I assume others) primarily line up for. Quesabirria has been trending for the past couple of years now so people want to try. Was it worth the long wait? Not at all. Now I won't say the quesabirria is bad by any means BUT it's full of grease. The consommé was probably one of the more basic consommés I've had. Very watery, while greasy, and lacks flavor. Making things worse were the stale chips. At least the queso was good. Spoke with a friend and asked for their thoughts on the truck, being that they knew it was a long line as well...but had the exact same issues/sentiments about the items. read more

Queso Monster and Elote Monster usually draw fairly long lines at events, and so when I happened upon them without an extensive queue at a food truck rodeo, I decided to give them a try. The menu offers a good deal of flexibility, boasting choices in proteins (traditional meats, shrimp, or veggies), spiciness levels, and styles. Unexpectedly, they also offered red/juicy and quesobirria quesadillas. The "elote" side of the business offers the titular street corn, with or without a dusting of tortilla or red hot chips. Lemonades range from single flavors such as peach or strawberry to multi-berry bonanzas, and a few are available as horchatas instead. I ended up with a birria quesadilla, tortilla chip-dusted esquites (elote bowl), and a mojito lemonade. The folks running the trucks were friendly, and, even by food truck standards, very fast. The quesadilla, which included broth, chips, salsa, and, of course, queso, offered quite a bit of food for $14. Less justifiable was the $5.50 charged for a regular-sized lemonade. The food was, by and large, satisfying. The quesadilla offered tender meat and a tasty -- if cilantro-heavy -- broth. The tortillas were a bit greasy, however, and will have you missing La Sinaloense's version. The torti esquites were thoroughly addictive. It may be just corn, sour cream and spices, but damn if the execution wasn't spot-on. The confusingly-named mojito lemonade had about as much in common with a mojito as a sea horse does with a stallion, but aside from being very sweet, it was still a refreshing drink on a June day. I appreciated the amount of fresh fruit (berries, pineapple, and kiwi) included. Had I been standing in long lines eagerly anticipating what awaited me, I likely would have walked away from Queso Monster and Elote Monster slightly disappointed. But thanks to fortuitous timing, I was able to enjoy it for what it was: good though not flawless Mexican food and drink. read more

Opted to try this place which I came across doing a google search of places to eat in the area. I saw they served birria tacos, so I went on a quest! The food truck is bright and stands out. The tacos were delicious and their lemonade is to die for! They put fresh fruit in their lemonade. The food was delicious and my only regret was not having more lemonade to drink. Meh! My biggest issue was the temperature of the food, my other issue was the overall flavor. I had been wanting to check this place out because the reviews are popping and it is always has a crowd. I saw the truck was 1 mile from house so I went on over. I got the chicken nachos and some corn. The service was pleasant and patient (my dad didn't know what he wanted). People in line were lovely and gave it rave reviews, so my mouth was watering. When we got home (all of 6 minutes with driving and sitting down) I dug in. The portions were huge! You could definitely share with a buddy. Presentation was nice it all looked really good. The issue was nothing was hot enough for my liking. I don't know about you but Lukewarm queso is not it. Even the corn wasn't hot. Then the flavor it just wasn't where it needed to be. The quest was bland, the chips were not special and crisp, and the chicken was dry. Overall, it's a no for me. Even if it was hot enough the Queso was missing that smokey, spicy, depth of flavor you expect from a good queso. As someone who is lactose intolerant this was a waste of a pill! read more

The best Mexican food truck I have ever had! The service is pretty quick, the quality of food is amazing. The tacos are plentiful and so flavorful, the Birria was amazing as well as the consommé. Tried their elote, it was pretty good as well. The only complaint I have is the walking esquite with flaming hot Cheetos, I wasn't really a fan of that. I had visions of Cookie Monster. It was not too far off if I substitute "queso" for "cookie" and am really hungry. Queso Monster food truck can feed monster appetites. The food from this truck is good. Ordering is confusing as you spend all your visual energy reading the menu for the regular offerings, only to be told it comes with a side of chips to which you can choose additional toppings of sour cream, queso sauce, or pico de gallo. And you can have more than one. While I was deciding which version of the quesadilla sounded best, the person in front of me was handed his order - the Baja Nachos with chicken. At least two people in line immediately changed their orders after seeing it. I understand and almost did so myself. The order was take-out box size. Enough for two, I think, or one very hungry person. If those were the nachos, I was anticipating an equally eye-filling quesadilla. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the queso monster special because it shared the same name as this truck and sounded good. The sliced red, green, and yellow peppers and the onions equally balanced the meat (both steak and chorizo), held together by the ideal portion of the Chihuahua cheese. The peppers were still fresh and full of flavor. I asked for spicy and the chipotle sauce added just enough to add some zing but not hide the flavors of the peppers and meat. The side chips were okay, and almost a disappointment after the first bite of the quesadilla. They were on the greasy side, but the sour cream and the pico helped hide that. I ended up not eating most of it. This was no shrinking quesadilla, with its barely visible filling. It spilled over the edges of the tortilla when I took a bite and weighed the paper tray down in such a way as to require two hands to hold it. Anytime I get a chance to catch the Queso Monster truck I definitely do. Everything I've had from this truck has been great. Their Monster Nachos are probably my favorite item, a pan of nacho chips covered in lettuce, pico, beans, queso sauce and whatever protein you choose, they are great. This is the best birria/ red tacos that I've had in the area and I've tried several. The food is always going to be hot and delicious and the flavored lemonades they offer are really good too. I will say this truck is going to be more expensive than some of the other birriarias but I think you get what you pay for. Also depending on where you visit the truck, sometimes you order the food and lemonade on the on the same truck and other times you don't. In the first scenario you order your food on the front truck and then walk a few paces, give your ticket to the lemonade truck and they make your order then you wait until your number is called to receive your food from the first truck. In the second scenario you order food on the front truck/pay and then walk a few paces and order your drink on the other truck/pay in a separate transaction while waiting on the food to be cooked. I don't like this. I think they need to be consistent with their process so as not to confuse customers about when/where to order. read more

I checked the Queso Monster food truck out yesterday when they were on NC States Campus - and I wasn't disappointed! I got 2 street tacos; one with chicken and the other chorizo. Chips and queso also came with this lunch special for $10.99 without tax. The overall flavor was good - the chicken itself for me was a little dry and bland .. but they had plenty of salsa or sauce options you could pick from... so that was no biggie. I finally got a chance to try Queso Monster at the Planet Fitness grand opening a while back (a bit ironic considering that this is a huge calorie bomb!) You'll recognize the truck from the depiction of some enormous kind-of-scary looking....queso monster (with some wacky little swatches of hair all over his blue body. Like I said, little creepy) First let me say, it's clearly some cheesy, greasy junk food (that's the whole point!) so I took no points away for it being messy and indigestion-inducing (I brought that on myself with the spicy chorizo). I had "El Chupacabra", but honestly had trouble choosing because all of the quesadilla variations looked great. The portion on my quesadilla was absolutely gigantic to the point where I couldn't even eat it in one sitting. They certainly did not skimp on the meat, either. I had tried getting them scheduled at my community and they were very hard to get in touch with. I sent multiple emails asking for a confirmation on the date we had discussed with little success. I ended up scheduling out another food truck (Seafoodie- HIGHLY recommend!). They ended up canceling because they accidentally double booked their schedule. Not a big deal- we ended rescheduling with them. All of a sudden we have a missed call from Queso Monster asking for a confirmation for today's date. Around 4:30 Queso Monster pulls up. A lot of my residents had reached out to me with an interest of getting Queso Monster scheduled so I was curious to try them. At 5:50 the owner came in and said that if he didn't have people start showing up that he would leave. I asked if he could stay until 6:30 (please keep in mind that Seafoodie was scheduled from 3-7 and the last time they came out they SOLD OUT of several menus options) and he AGREED. I also want to mention that around 5pm my residents are still getting off work and are coming home. It's a little early for dinner.
