I enrolled Matthew (age 10) in the evening Taekwondo class at 7:30pm. I really like that this school caters to the working parents that work 9am to 6pm shifts. The price is also reasonable at 189.00 a month with 3 classes a week with a uniform included. The center is kept clean and immaculate and the staff Is personable. I have been looking for the right martial arts school for a month and happen to run across this place through Yelp. My son is courteous and obedient. If you are looking for a martial arts dojo more like the Mr. Miyagi approach vs the Cobra Kai approach, this place is EXACTLY what you are seeking. Family-run by a husband/wife team and currently 2 of their black belt children (young adults), Exceed puts character-building and instilling a strong base of respect and discipline in their beginners above punching and kicking. They utilize a multi-tier white belt system that graduates through I think 6 levels before they get into the more serious levels of solid colored belts. Sparring is introduced in the last few levels of striped white belt, and competitions representing the dojo can happen in the solid belt levels. Their approach to new students is especially out-of-this-world. As I am typing this, Master Jackson has been sitting on the mat with one first timer and one second timer for the past 5 minutes, chatting them up easily and helping them find the courage to join the group. They have both joined in at this point and all I can see is smiles and exhilaration. These kids feel safe, supported, and challenged appropriately. I am incredibly grateful that my family stumbled across this dojo and I look forward to seeing them 3 times a week for years to come. read more

We got to know Mr. Jackson when my son first started out on his Taekwondo journey. Half way through our journey, Mr. Jackson moved to a different studio but he was always kind enough to periodically check in on our son. Fast forward a few years later, it was black belt testing time. Our son passed all the requirements but it was the brick breaking that got to him. His masters at his studio tried tireless but could not get him to overcome the mental block. They tried through encouragement and then resorted to tough love but couldn't get my son there. He was not able to test for his black belt and seeing his classmates test for their black belt was heartbreaking. We kept at it and the second testing came around and again, we were faced with the same dilemma. He had that mental block with the brick again and his masters were not able to help him. Out of sheer desperation, I reached out to Mr. Jackson and I thought nothing of it since we haven't seen him in a few years. I just thought he would give me some pointers for our son but to my surprise, he told me to bring my son to him and they he would personally work with him. After about 30mins with Mr. Jackson, my son was able to break that brick or any bricks on command!!! We took him down to Mr. Jackson a few more times to ensure that it wasn't my a fluke and sure enough whatever it was, Mr. Jackson was able to clear the mental block for my son. He went on and earned his black belt that season but it would not have been possible without Mr. Jackson. For they, we are always in debt to him. He helped our son overcome not just a Taekwondo challenge but a life challenge. My son was not a student of Mr. Jackson at the time but for him to take his time out late at night, night after night, after his studio closes to help my son tells you the kind of master that he is. He wants to help the child.....period. It's not about belt levels or financial gains or popularity. It's about helping the child be the best they they can be. read more
