We speak English at home, but he's now able to converse comfortably with his grandparents in their native tongue--which has been really special. One thing I especially appreciated was getting daily updates on the curriculum along with photos of the day's activities. It made me feel connected and confident in what he was learning. When we ran into challenges with our child, the team was kind, patient, and genuinely helpful. They were always there with thoughtful support. They're also very active in SFUSD and shared a lot of expert insights with us about public Mandarin immersion programs, which I found incredibly helpful. She has had straight A's during that time, marking the first time anyone in my family has ever earned an A. She genuinely likes math and feels confident in it and even tutors some of her friends - and I can promise you none of that is coming from this home. She has done twice a week for 5 years and has never complained. You know kids. They complain about everything. But Mathnasium has been a home and she has been more than happy to get on the bus, or in the car and go spend time there. I want to add that Andre and Elliott have been fantastic. There are just those little days where something comes up, or your kid is sick, or you need some small adjustment to the schedule and they are so quick to pick up and help that it makes the entire experience easier.

Having a baby is already hard, but having a baby that needs help with feeding is something that no…read moreone can prepare you for. After a 6 week stay in the NICU, and a G-Tube placement, we started feeding therapy with Teresa through the Golden Gate Regional Center. During our time in the hospital and just after, we met with a number of feeding therapists that were next to no help with us. It was frustrating and sad, especially as new mom. When I met Teresa, I told her upfront that I was having a hard time and that I needed someone that could really help us get to a place where we could wean off our feeding tube. Nearly a year later, my daughter has been tube-free for almost five months, and has been mostly oral for about nine months. So much of our progress has been because of the help I got from Teresa. She has amazing patience, and really listens to what you're saying and offers useful and constructive ways to help. Nothing about it is forced, and along the way, there's also a gentleness in her approach to moving to the next steps. Of all our early intervention providers, Teresa is the one person I really wanted to meet with on a weekly basis because I knew there'd be constructive and helpful takeaways from our meetings. We recently had to relocate out of the state, and I am incredibly sad that I couldn't bring Teresa with us. Hopefully this means that Teresa can now help another family in the same way that she helped ours. Thank you Teresa and SF Speech!

Knowing she has many school years ahead, I wanted to give her one more year free from rigid schedules and structure. When I was searching for preschools last year, I worried about whether she would be okay without me--whether her needs would be met, and whether her voice would be heard. I was concerned that, as the youngest in a mixed-age group, she might be pushed around or overlooked. I wanted play to stay at the center of her days, with her choosing where her interests took her. Glenridge eased all of my concerns. They have an incredible focus on guiding children through social interactions. Even though she was the youngest, and her voice was soft at times, the parents in the classroom are trained to observe, narrate conflicts, and help them resolve issues on their own. And when words fail, we give them the language they need. Glenridge isn't just a place where kids are cared for--it's a place where they truly develop and thrive.

I am so, so glad we gave our kiddo another year of play and hikes into the canyon with friends rather than stricter school environment. Granted, we're fortunate that I am flexible and able to ferry him in and out, and work during the parent shifts-- and I know that can be a big lift for some families. But I hope you'll consider Glenridge, take the tour, etc if you're curious about coops. It's been fulfilling, beautiful, hard, challenging and more. The camp counselors - Najia, David, and Zita - were awesome. The kids were outdoors and active all day, learning about nature and the environment. Our daughter really enjoyed the field trips to Ocean Beach and Marin. As a 2 working parent family, we also appreciated the 9-5pm full day coverage (the only thing better would be an 8:30am start)! I'd highly recommend this summer camp, and look forward to returning next year.

She specifically asked to go to a camp where she could look at bugs, climb trees, and collect leaves all day long-- TFT delivered and then some! My daughter came home every day with a huge smile on her face, messy hair, dirty clothes, and lots of new facts about bugs and animals. It is exactly what you picture when you think of summer camp. The camp is well-organized. Good communication before and during camp sessions. The counselors are incredibly nice and you can tell that they love their jobs. I would happily re-enroll her at TFT next summer. Note: my daughter is fairly independent and responsible for her age. She enjoys imaginative play, makes friends easily, and speaks up when she needs help. Kids who need structure or hand-holding may not do as well in this camp.
