Starting off we arrived 5 minutes late and it was fine. The waiting time was 5-15 minutes we were able to get out of there in an hour. staff was nice, not a lot of people. insurance works just make sure to use medicare insurance or call to ask and other checks. They did not give me any fake diseases. Glasses are cheap if you have a kid and got your insurance working. Dr. Smalley you did a great job. read more

Dr was great but make sure if you go here it is not for an exam. Make sure you have an actual medical issue that can be billed through your medical insurance. They shouldn't even allow a patient to come in just for an eye exam knowing fully well that the patient will have to pay the $500 out of pocket. Medical insurance does not cover just eye exams. They do not accept vision insurance which for a vision place is extremely odd. read more

Very frustrating to schedule an appoint to have your eyes checked and to be told that you have to be rescheduled because they do not have a doctor available that deals with gas permeable contacts. It's even more frustrating when you find out that when your wife scheduled the appointment that she explained that to the receptionist. They obviously do not value our time. I believe the doctors here are good. The staff are cold and indifferent, but I didn't really think that mattered. It does! I've been to the Lehi office twice. Once was for an emergency. I saw Dr. Smalley and thought he was very thorough and informative. The second time I went to the office and saw Dr. Hatch to get an updated eyeglass and contact prescription. I liked him. He was thorough and answered all of my questions. I was told that I'd be given my prescription at the front desk. While I was waiting, I asked the receptionist/secretary if they could tell what my insurance would cover for glasses. The secretary next to her informed me that they will not work with insurance or have anything to do with it. As I assumed that insurance would only cover part of it, I didn't think it was a big deal. However, they actually discouraged me from even getting my glasses or contacts there. I was handed my prescription and sent on my way. Drove 30 miles home and went to place an online order for glasses and contacts (BTW: I have no idea if I would be saving money or not because they didn't even want to work with me at the Lehi office). Long story short -- the prescription they gave me was incomplete. I could not place an order. When I called to have them email (or verbally) give me the rest of the information, they rudely told me that they couldn't because of HIPA regulations and that I would have to drive all the way back to the office. They were so horribly rude and wouldn't even discuss other options. Sorry -- the doctors were good, but the staff is cold and rude. Never going back!! read more

Friendly and courteous receptionist. Dr. Smalley is wonderful! Daughter and I have not been in for an annual exam in two years but that wasn't a problem. Dr. Smalley was patient and thorough. He even took the time to explain to my daughter the purpose for checking eye pressure and discuss her understanding of peripheral vision as explained in her psychology class. Very professional and knowledge. Definitely an eye doctor to be trusted. read more

Excel Eye Center - Lehi - Is it a V, oh no wait maybe a B? - Optometrists Near Me - Lehi, Utah

Excel Eye Center is a full service eye center. They offer exams for contacts and glasses as well as laser vision correction. After a few experiences with Excel, here is my take on some aspects of their business. While I did have an overall negative experience with Excel, I'll try to review things as I saw them, and not through a bitter eye. Summary: This is a professional, but out of touch operation. Their doctors seem competent, their staff seems bothered by clients, and their business practices seem disconnected. My advise is to avoid these guys, until they make some customer-friendly corrections. Office: You'll find just what you'd expect from any-old-doctors office. Clean, quiet, well lit. Professional atmosphere. Magazines, "child play" area, etc. The Lehi office also has a separate, but connected eye-glasses seller so you can try on frames while you wait. The exam room is also what you'd expect. Low light, fancy machinery, differently oriented E's on the wall. Staff (at Lehi office): Everyone I met seemed nice enough. No one was _dying_ to greet me each time I went in. Instead, I'd stand in front of the desk and wait until they were done looking at whatever paper or computer screen was holding their interest, and then answer the obligatory "how can I help you?" I felt like I was not intruding, but they didn't particularly want me there either. Service: This is where things weren't as great for me. Both times I've used Excel were met with a disconnected experience. Coming back to contacts after 20 years, they offered to give me an "orientation" lesson on wearing, cleaning etc, at no charge. A brief version of the full beginners course. When I asked about this upon picking up my trial lenses, I was met with confusion. Instead, they begrudgingly gave me a sample cleaning/storage kit, and said I could find many videos on the internet about use and care of contacts. Since these were trial lenses, I asked if they wanted to make another appointment to follow up. The response was a confused "Why would you want to do that?" look and something like "Well... just call if you need to see the doctor." Do not expect any pro-active followup by this office. They're an out-of-site/out-of-mind, squeeky-wheel-gets-the-grease kinda place. Dispute Resolution: This is where things were terrible. I went in and asked about a price quote for a specific exam. I was told the price, wrote it on their business card, and made an appointment. When the bill came, it was more than 200% of the quote. When I asked at the Lehi office, they essentially threw up their hands and told me to take it up with billing, in Provo. Long story short, the "Corporate" office would not budge, and threatened to send my bill to collections if I didn't want to pay. They were stuck on the idea that "we don't even offer any services at the price you were quoted...so there is no way we can charge you that amount." So, even though their employee gave me the quote, this fact made the problem somehow my fault. They even apologized for the communication problems, but said they expected me to pay for "services rendered." They told me my bill was higher partly because they first sent my bill through my insurance to see if any of it was covered. This was their idea, even with me encouraging them to let me pay without going through insurance they wanted to try anyway. As a "service to me" they offered to reduce the bill to only 150% of the quote, which still didn't feel right. It took my lawyer sending a letter stating that intended to pay only the quoted amount to get them to send me the correct invoice. Even then, it came with a strong written warning from their staff, informing me how quotes worked, and that I should be more careful in the future. In the end, I gave back the trial lenses they gave me, and cancelled further appointment. read more

Check the reviews. It seems to be a recurring theme here. Their office doesn't know how to handle insurance. They will get you in by telling you they take your insurance then you get a huge bill that should be covered. When you finally get someone on the phone they tell you they don't take your insurance and it's YOUR FAULT FOR NOT ASKING. Absolutely the worst office folks I have ever dealt with. On top of it all Smalley claimed I needed to have surgery on my eyes but after a visit with another doctor I found out it was completely unnecessary. Creepy and the glasses there are way over priced to boot. Good luck Smalley, you're going to need it with the way you are running your business. read more

My son had his exam over a year ago and they are just coming back to me now to tell me that they don't accept my insurance. I checked online before I made the appointment, double checked with them when I called to make the appointment, and triple checked when we went in for the appointment that they accepted my insurance. After my son's exam, we went to the glasses center to have him fitted for glasses and she tells me that they don't accept our insurance. I go back over to the exam window and they said they were sorry and that they accept our insurance for the exam but not for glasses. Ok. I was totally annoyed that I now had to take our prescription to another eye doctor's office to order glasses. Now, a year later they are trying to charge me a crazy amount for a simple eye exam saying that they don't accept my insurance and never did. Update: I receive a letter from collections in the mail. It turns out that they had been sending the notices to a completely wrong address. Not the address that I put on the paperwork at the time of the exam. They really need to work on their communication between office and billing. read more
