Elizabeth (Liz) at Smart PT helped me where no others could. She taught me a combination of stretches that really did the trick. Liz is great at identifying sports related injuries and coming up with a combination of core strengthening exercises and stretches to get the job done. In my experience, you need to find the PT/Ortho combination that works for your particular requirement. The others that I went to weren't familiar with ITBS and they kept suggesting things that I could just Feel weren't getting the job done. When I came here, she looked at my stance and without me saying a word, she immediately identified where and how I was hurting. I instantly knew I was going to get the results I wanted, so long as I worked at it. Smart PT is also a very relaxed environment with convenient hours. There's a parking garage around the corner, plenty of street parking if you arrive early enough, and its Very metro accessible. I was recommended here by two co-workers and I'd Highly recommend them to any others. As for my ortho - that's a separate review. Dr. Akhmed saved my life…read more I had been given a false diagnosis by an urological oncologist at no less than Johns Hopkins. He told me that I had an advanced incurable cancer, and to "settle your affairs". I was only in my 30's, and this put my family into a huge crisis. After weeks of emergency room visits and specialists, I somehow ended up in Dr. Akhmed's office. She asked me what medications I was on, and right in front of me, pulled out a reference book and looked them up. She said that she thought I was having a rare reaction to an allergy medicine I was on and that I should stop taking all medications immediately. She was right. The allergy medicine had been causing high blood pressure and urine retention, resulting in a blocked bladder blowing up to the size of a basketball, which necessitated the emergency room visits and could have resulted in death. The other doctors I saw during the crisis gave me yet more meds which caused more side effects. Once I stopped taking the allergy meds and the high blood pressure meds, my blood pressure went down, and I never had another problem with the bladder. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Akhmed.

Dinosaur Pediatric PT helped my son and I navigate successfully through some troubling situations and really helped us see the light at the end of the tunnel. When my lactation consultant recommended I seek therapy for my then 1 month old's muscular and cranial sacral tightness (which was severely affecting his ability to latch correctly and nurse) I was so scared and weary that anything would help. And if anything did, I thought my anxiety would surely get in the way. But after a nice, comprehensive session with Rebecca, we learned some really useful stretches and exercises. What's more, her positivity and open-arms philosophy was so welcoming in those early days. She guided my husband and I in such a clear, supportive way, things started to shape up even after our first meeting. She was so encouraging and took the time to answer all of our questions--quite the opposite demeanor of most doctors in the city! I've been a patient of Dr. Walsh's for five years now. I appreciate his focus on preventative…read moremedicine, and his excellent bedside manner. I don't have particularly complicated medical problems, but when I do bring a concern he resolves it without provoking unnecessary anxiety. He's also referred me to a couple excellent specialists, both of whom spoke very highly of him as a primary care physician. Only point for improvement (and this has nothing to do with Dr. Walsh himself, and everything to do with VHC's scheduling staff) would be a little more flexibility with scheduling annual wellness exams. It's easy to get a 15-minute appointment for a concern that arises during the year, but the 30-minute annual wellness exam has to be scheduled a year in advance. If you cancel your wellness exam for any reason, then you can't get another one until a year after the date on which you cancel your original appointment. That's completely okay, and that's why I make extra efforts to keep my appointments--I figure a cancellation on my end is my fault. But if the doctor has to cancel for any reason (and there are lots of good reasons that he might have to cancel), then the scheduling team kicks you to the back of the line, more than a year from the date on which they cancel your appointment. This happened to me recently, and caused me to miss the annual wellness screening I had scheduled for January 2026. The first available make-up appointment was November 2026. Dr. Walsh is a great doctor and totally worth the wait, and since I have only minor medical issues that I can monitor on my own I'm just going to use blood tests at CVS in the interim. And again, this is a criticism of the admin team and not Dr. Walsh.
