Great class and great facilities~! The women s locker room is open and has everything you could need from towel, bathrobes, shower shoes, fully stocked mouthwash , hairspray, shampoo and conditioner! The showers included a waterfall overhead flow and a towel warmer! They are 10x nicer than my shower at home! I have taken the core fusion class twice and both times the instructors have provided individual attention! I normally don't sweat during a bar class but I always leave here feeling like I got an awesome workout. Jessica Carreiro is an amazing teacher , I can not say enough good things about her! I've been a Fitness member at Exhale for a while now and can't say enough about how great it is, such a diverse offering of classes excellent teachers, etc. But today I am writing about my recent spa experience. Last night I got a Fusion massage with Michelle Ma and it was so amazing. I've been working out a ton, so I am super tight not to mention my back and shoulders are all tense from sitting at a desk 90% of my adult life. It was both soothing and intense--you could tell she was actually getting into the knots in my back. At the same time, it wasn't overly painful-- I actually drifted into a sleep for part of it. Came here with a couple of girls for a nice spa day. The fusion 60 massage that I had was very nice and my masseuse did a great job. Afterwords there is a room that is heated that you can hang out in before or after your massage and I would probably come back and utilize that more pre-massage. The Locker Room's were large and had toiletries to share. There were only a few showers so there was quite a very large line to shower off after the massage and continue on with our day. Overall had a pleasant experience and probably would go back and take advantage when they have some type of promotional discount. read more

I visited Boston for a week and had planned to try out some Barre classes at Exhale since the apartment we rented was just up the street. I was able to try out their Week of Transformation while I was there so enjoyed five classes (three Barre/two Yoga) as well as a discounted massage. The space is wonderful and luxurious. I found the staff to be very friendly and the classes challenging. I tried out an open/basic yoga class and there were only two students so received lots of individual attention. The Barre classes were just difficult enough to be challenging but not impossible. I enjoyed a Flow massage too - a great antidote to travel/vacation stress and the workouts. I would definitely recommend Exhale and hope I can visit again next time I'm in Boston. read more

You must go see Julie for waxing and Andrea for facials! Julie is amazing -- the best waxist I've had in Boston. Her brazilian waxes are quick, thorough, and *relatively* painless. She is super nice and will make sure you're comfortable throughout the process. I highly recommend her for any type of waxing! Andrea is my go to for facials -- it's the perfect balance of a luxurious spa facial with clinical results. She takes her time with extractions and customizes each facial to give you optimal results. She gives great skincare recommendations and has totally transformed my skin over the past year. read more

I had a 60 deep tissue massage after a 60 mile bike ride. i was very tired and was hoping this will help me recover. I was able to schedule the appointment online. The massage was very relaxing and the therapist tailored the session to help me recover. The staff are friendly and the place is clean and spacious. I recently went to this location for a massage. The masseuse was fantastic but the building was doing construction and my entire massage had super loud banging and really ruined the experience. I was never told ahead of time that there was construction and when I reached out about the issue, the company was not helpful and did not provide even an apology. Don't recommend. read more

Came here for barre classes a few times over the past 2 years. +The space. Exhale, being a spa, has nicer locker rooms compared to your typical barre studio. Think - space, robes, slippers +The class. Exhale's bar classes are more movement heavy and challenging compared to some of the other bar classes (e.g. Xtend on Newbury, Bar Method). However, this is pretty instructor dependent -The front desk. I've been going to the Back Bay Exhale with no problems, but it seems that every time I come to the Battery Wharf location for a class, it takes me at least 5 minutes to be checked in. The front desk is either on the phone with spa customers helping them make an appointment, or doing something else completely. +The studio itself, For some reason, music is very loud in the studio, and it gets super hot in the summers All in all, I'd strongly recommend those interested in taking a bar class at Exhale to go to the Back Bay location instead read more

Don't live in Boston anymore but still come back all the time time for classes , massage, facials. I'd name my favorites but every time I do they become so popular it's hard to get appts or classes fill up so I'll be a little selfish here ,keep names to myself and let you figure that out on your own. All I can say is that in this case you do get what you pay for(ie it's a bit pricey)but I'd rather come here less and really enjoy my services. I was pleasantly surprised today at my first time experience as I booked a massage with Suzanne, From the greeting to the walk through the front desk was extremely pleasant from check in to check out. My massage was wonderful. Suzanne asked me questions before we started to ensure I would get what I was looking for out or the hour. On vacation and asked the front desk at the hotel where i'm staying at where a good spa was. They said the Exhale Spa was the place to go. So i called & booked appointment for a massage & pedicure. The staff were all very helpful & friendly. The spa was beautiful & clean. The waiting room was very relaxing & offered water & teas. I received a massage from Joshua. It was the best massage i've ever gotten (i'm a therapist myself). I told him he needed to move to my town so i could get massages from him weekly . I went to Exhal to get a massage for my birthday gift. This was the worst massage I got. It was very painful. Few times I sighed from pain. I feel bad to leave this review as the person who was giving me the massage was a very nice person. For two days after massage I had horrible pain around my shoulder area. So bad that I was hardly able to move my hand. After a week past I still get sharp pains on my upper back and shoulder area. I think she really damaged a nerve or something. I was totally fine before getting the massage, now I think I need some massag therapy to recover from that massage. What is even more painful is paying them $180 (+tip) to get to this much of pain and inconvenience. read more

However I went to my first spin class today and there were no earplugs for clients offered at the front desk or chairs to change your street shoes into spin shoes. The manager didn't have any explanation. I expect a high end studio like Exhale to treat its clients better. read more

UPDATE __ Just spoke with Jenna, the membership manager, and she was excellent, and promised to deal with this when it arises. Thank you Jenna!!! I've been a spa member for 3 years, and am going to cancel my membership in December, because my past several visits here have been unpleasant. Boston, unfortunately, is home to many women in their 20s and 30s who TALK SSSSSSOOO LOUD -- ALL THE TIME!!! This is an expensive spa and I come here to relax and restore. Unfortunately, during my last few visits. I've been forced to listen to some incredibly rude women in ear-shattering voices describe their latest bikini waxes, their eyebrow "game," their condo woes, their dinner plans -- really any thought that enters their minds while chilling in the hammam, sauna, lounge area and dressing room. They do this even though there are "quiet please" type signs posted. I've asked the front desk to enforce these rules. The front desk has told me they will say something to these women as they are checking out. To me, that's a polite cover for doing nothing. Please Exhale, I love your services but the clientele lately needs to be reminded that not everyone wants to hear all about someone else's grooming habits. I was looking for a day SPA experience and I found out about Exhale. The price for a massage seemed high but when combining it with the sauna and Hamman experience it made sense to me. Massage itself was ok however the sauna is tiny and not hot enough even at the highest level. The "Hamman" was even worst. That is not a Hamman, it is just a quiet room kind of heated, nothing to do with the real Turkish Hamman. Not looking forward to go back. read more

I've been going to this spa/gym for a variety of services since they opened. I currently just go for yoga classes. My favorite things about this gym are the yoga classes. They get top notch teachers, it's a nice space, and the classes are pricier then a regular yoga studio - so not as crowded. I have my favorite teachers - but also one or two that I would never take a second class from - it all depends what style you like. There are some vagrant flaws at this gym. The clientele is generally inconsiderate and snobby. As a busy professional I look forward to yoga as a place to relax and unwind. Most times visiting this studio the room is full of bridezillas who can't stop talking about their wedding planning or what happened last weekend - not exactly Zen - but that is the vibe. Other studios I go to are more conducive to a quiet, meditative atmosphere pre-class - don't expect that here. This annoying chit-chat also extends into the hammam room at times - which is also supposed to be a quiet meditative room. Over the years I've had some services. Generally I think they are overpriced, however the masseuses are great. I had one nightmare scenario when I changed into a robe and waited for 30 mins in the lounge. My masseuse never showed up. I ended up having to go back to the locker room, change into real clothes and talk to someone about what was going on - not relaxing!!!! I'm glad this place exists, but could use improvement. My girlfriends and I purchased the GILT city vouchers for a facial and massage. During my massage, the therapist asked if I wanted light or deep pressure. When I indicated deep pressure, she asked if I wanted to do the fusion. I said sure, assuming that was the name for a deeper pressure massage. Upon checking out, the receptionist tried to upcharge me for $20 for the "fusion." Never in my life have I paid extra for a massage due to the differences in pressure, and never did the therapist indicate it was a price difference. If that wasn't enough, I got a random charge on my credit card 2 days later. When I called to inquire what this was for, the receptionist told me they now require a minimum of 20% gratuity on the services. That's all well and good, but no one mentioned this to us while we were checking out. If they had, we would have happily increased the gratuity amount to meet the 20%. The manager took it upon herself to charge my card on file without even a phone call to tell me she was going to charge me. This is totally unacceptable and a very poor way to do business. Seems like Exhale is looking to nickel and dime their clients to get any extra money they can. Very disappointed and its sad because the therapists will be the ones who suffer from this poor business behavior. Beware and make sure you check your credit card statement!! read more

Yesterday I experienced the best massage I have ever had. This was my first visit to the amazing Exhale Spa at Battery Wharf. I was greeted by a most friendly member of the staff. I waited only a moment for Suzanne my massage therapist for the visit. Suzanne took me on a short tour of the spa before my session. The spa is beautiful and very relaxing. My massage was tailored to exactly what I needed after a brief assessment by Suzanne. Suzanne then gave me the best massage I have ever had. After the massage I was then taken to the Hammam (sp) great to relax in after the massage. Overall my experience with Exhale and Suzanne was incredible. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. They also have a couples massage room. I bought two gift cards while I was there. I think a massage at Exhale makes a great Christmas gift for the loved ones. read more

I LOVE Exhale. After a mediocre experience in 2012, I was really put off about trying this place again. But I am doing the 145 dollars for 1 month unlimited and have already gotten so much bang for my buck. The good: *You can register for a class that is re-occurring each week so you basically can have the same schedule each week. *The teachers are SO good. I am not sure how on earth they always remember you first name when you tell it to them in the beginning of class, but these teaches are seriously skilled at remembering people. I love Chrissy's class and also Thalia is wonderful. Everyone has really been great. The classes are incredibly challenging, the music is good, and Chrissy is so silly and funny. I really enjoy her random humor in the class (still not sure what Stranger Things the show is but that is OK). *They have hot tea, a super clean space, easy check in process, and all the props are right there for you & it's so easy to just throw your towel and mat at the end of class to be cleaned. *GREAT deals (they are doing another 299 for 3 months which is GREAT). *So easy to just take a 1 hr class and be in and out. I love how it is not some BIG ordeal like CrossFit or Yoga. You can simply come, take your class, and get the fuck out of there. Overall I am very pleased and plan to go every single day until my 30 days are up and then probably become a member for the 180 a mo. for the yearly membership. The people are intimidating for sure (everyone has a huge wedding ring, head to toe in lulu, and sort of look like they have not eaten in days) BUTTTTT the instructors are what matter most and THEY are the friendly, happy people that bring me to class. read more

After years of buying single classes and class packages I finally sucked it up and got a membership here. I have to say it was completely worth it! It is a great workout and also an amazing spa. All of the classes are great but I especially love Molly and Victorias Barre class. Victoria will seriously kick you ass...but in the best way. Spa and ambiance is great, however I was extremely displeased with my massage service. I had a 60 min session which ended up being ~45 mins. The therapist was just about the most I unaccommodating I have ever had. I asked for slight adjustment in the pace/pressure, which ended up causing a lot of aggravation and confusion on her part. The spa is great overall, but the premium pricing they have commands a much better service and maybe a little less attitude. I would not recommend that particular location. read more

Had a terrible experience here this weekend. They were running a spa week promotion for 5 fitness classes for $50. The website clearly said the deal would run through sunday as in a full week (it's not called "spa five days"). I called to see if I could purchase over the phone or online and they said I had to come in. Not once did they mention the deal would end on Friday (2 days before spa week was over). So I make my way to the spa Saturday to be told the deal was over. I showed them the website where there is no mention the deal would end early and they couldn't have cared less. Non-apologetic. If you don't want people to take advantages of deals, don't participate in spa week. No one is asking you to. But if you do decide to participate, honor the commitment. read more

I had an appointment for mani/pedi. It appeared that there is no gel polish. And there is no equipment to remove gel polish if it's what you have when come for the service. It took a long time to remove the polish and my skin got injured during this procedure. The specialist has apologized for that but it doesn't help unfortunately. The rest of the service was fine. If anyone goes for non-gel service the experience might be better. read more

This is a pathetic excuse for a Hammam. Nothing like the Hammam at Drift Spa in Vegas. No steam whatsoever and a hi temperature of only 105 degrees. If you're looking to sweat you won't be doing it here.The tiny sauna was a joke. To small to lie down in and not even close to hot. A female maintenance staff member entered the mens locker room and caught me coming out of the shower. She must have been the one that took my water bottle and yoga mat and left them at the front desk. I'm a regular Fairmont customer and this place is not worthy of their lofty reputation. Try their Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Its a full service spa with all the bells and whistles and a rooftop pool. read more

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. I often hear from my friends "What is this core fusion thing you always talk about". Well, friends, let me tell you. This is the most amazing work out I have ever had. And I consider myself a pretty tough athlete. I started sports when I was four and I only stop to go to work and sleep occasionally. I considered myself in top shape. That was until I took a core fusion class. Holy kick my butt batman! On the recommendation of a friend of mine who works at Exhale, I decided to sign up for a Core Fusion: Sport class. This class is one hour long of concentrated muscle building. Each minute of this class is used efficiently to tone every area of your body. I started going just one day a week and I lost 2 dress sizes in a couple months. Keep in mind that before this I was running and playing soccer and lifting weights at the gym. These classes *revolutionized* my work out. I feel stronger and more defined. And my increased muscle mass has made my metabolism go into warp speed. And since they integrate stretch and interval into the class, you're building lean muscle rather than bulk. The whole atmosphere at Exhale is right in line with their motto "Mind and Body". As you walk in, the lights are low, the design is minimalist and time seems to slow down. You forget everything outside is still there. They offer spa treatments as well as yoga classes and massages. Once you're inside the locker room, you feel like a rock star. The place has an edgy design with modern lighting and jazzy music. There are vanity lights above the huge mirrors. They offer towels, sandals, robes, hair dryers, hair straighteners, razors, tampons, Q-tips, the whole nine yards. The showers there have the rain shower heads and they have shampoo, conditioner, and soap in each stall. There is a steam room and a sauna. My favorite is the quiet room. They have a room with couches like a lounge. There is a station for hot tea and magazines and you can just relax. Oh and the whole place smells like white tea leaves. The prices here are a little high, but it's worth every penny. I can't commit to the member price ($170/month annual or $190/ month for month to month) but I can afford the 10-pack for $220, considering I go once a week. The new location might be better for people just trying out as the more veteran people tend to prefer the back bay location. As a result, the instructors at Battery Wharf take the time to really explain what's happening and why they do everything as it's being done. One of my only criticisms is that at the new location, the classroom has hardwood floors, rather than the wall to wall carpeting at the Back Bay location. But that is fixed by using a mat for the whole class, small adjustment. My favorite classes are the Core Fusion: Sport (more geared towards cardio) and the Core Fusion: Open (really working on muscle strength throughout your whole body). Although the estrogen levels can be pretty high at times at Exhale, men should not be afraid to check out these classes because they are in almost every class. From what I hear, Friday night sports classes are almost taken over by the doormen downstairs. Another BIG tip. These classes are great for people with injuries. I sadly had to stop running because my knees decided to give up on me. At the beginning of every class, the instructors come to each and every person to ask their name and any injuries they have. They then suggest alternate poses or methods to avoid stressing that injury. It's really tailored to your body and you never feel pressured to go beyond what you can do, BUT they certainly push you to do your best. Please please check this place out. Three stars because the amenities are nice and Christina is AMAZING. Highly recommend her for facials, waxing, and massages. She knows what she is doing and won't try to sell you products you don't need. If you're booking a spa therapy, block out a few hours to take advantage of the amenities (steam room and showers are great). However, the overall vibe is incredibly snobby and the staff is rude. If you aren't dressed in head to toe Lululemon carrying a designer bag, prepare to be ignored and spoken to like an idiot. Heads up, they email a ton of promotions but are very particular about how and when the discounts apply. read more

I have Exhale to thank for getting me back into my now-active lifestyle. Back in April, I gifted a friend a massage and a facial, and while she was getting pampered, I thought to myself - why not take a class? Little did I know how much this class would change my outlook on fitness! I took the Core Fusion Cardio class, and found myself STRUGGLING to get through the class, but in the best possible way. I also found myself thinking about the class 2-3 days later, and asked myself... why not go back? Thus began my religion of attending Core Fusion classes 4-5 days/week, while I could (more on that later). This is coming from a woman who (years ago!!) was pretty fit, but was at the time struggling to go to the gym more than once or twice a week. I LOVED all of the classes offered at Exhale, and recommended them to all of my friends. If I had to rank the individual classes, it would be as follows - Core Fusion Cardio (with Chrissy or Caitlin), Exhale Power Yoga (with Larissa), Core Fusion Sport (with Dani), Core Fusion Barre (with Chrissy or Caitlin). Sadly, I moved to DC before trying Core Fusion Extreme or any of the newer offerings, which made me really sad (I'm not joking - I was consistently disappointed for a solid month before finding another studio I love). However, I have to say, the Core Fusion classes really inspired me and got me back on my feet. Thanks to Core Fusion, I'm 100% unafraid of classes and workouts that will kick my butt, and I've discovered the benefits of yoga along the way. I'm now faster, leaner, and stronger, my initial progress is because of the fantastic, intense, form-focused classes at Exhale. As for the facility itself, it doesn't get any better than this. Gorgeous locker rooms, showers, and studios make for a dream come true. I also loved that my classmates appeared to take the classes seriously, and their form inspired me to work harder. On that note, one thing that I find completely lacking at Exhale is the sense of community, which I (now) expect for the steep cost of membership here. But there is no doubt that Exhale really fired up my fitness game, and I will always recommend their classes to anybody needing that extra boost in their routine. read more

Exhale Spa - Battery Wharf, like other Exhale locations, has a spa membership for $150 per month, which I signed up for with the lovely Natasia. The spa membership includes a monthly facial or massage, a monthly manicure, and a monthly $50 credit (toward spa services, purchases, etc. - just not gratuity). This is an incredible deal, and staff treat guests with great respect and hospitality. My favorites are Yana (for facials and waxing) and Victoria (for nails). Both care deeply about the quality of their work, and I have already seen improvements in my skin thanks to Yana and I have had fun with different nail colors thanks to Victoria. I've been to many spas in Boston, and Exhale ranks at the top. read more

This review is for the spa only. Unfortunately Exhale has gone completely downhill. Over the past few months, I've experienced the following: 1. A therapist canceled last minute and they were otherwise booked for that day. 2. I checked in, got in my robe, and ended up with a completely different therapist than whom I had requested and booked. Without any notice or indication. 3. I had a HORRENDOUS massage (she didn't touch my head or shoulders/neck and essentially just gently rubbed oil on my back) and let the front desk know about my experience. They told me a manager would get back to me but that never happened. 4. After strike #3, I decided I was all set with Exhale and found a new spot to get massages. However, I then received a gift card to Exhale so today I went online to book my spa therapy and found that my "booking privileges" had been revoked. I called the front desk and yet again did not receive a call back as promised. All in all, it took over an hour to book a massage with them. The manager even suggested I try their Back Bay location rather than come back to Battery Wharf when I explained my previous experience (#3) and expressed that I was disappointed no one had called back. Once my gift card is used up I am beyond done with this spot. Way too expensive for such poor customer service and hit-or-miss quality. read more

As a member of Exhale since the Back Bay location opened in 2004, I sometimes consider myself a barre "purist" - which means I like to do class on a carpet! However, when one is spending inordinate amounts of time in East Boston and has a lot of clients who work in the Financial District, Battery Wharf becomes a much more convenient location. Plus one of my favorite teachers and people (Caitlin) runs the mind/body program over at Battery. I have to say, I LOVE this location. From the Core Fusion Barre classes (Caitlin, Victoria, and Meg - 3 of my favorites - teach more classes here than they do at Back Bay) to the serene atmosphere (love the hammam, the fully equipped locker rooms - including the flat irons!, the towel warmers in each shower - HEAVEN), Battery is every bit as good as its sister location in the Back Bay. Even with the hard wood floor in the barre studio (blasphemy, I know). And the customer service is AMAZING. Any issue that I have ever had has been quickly resolved. After a recent manicure/pedicure, the manager (Leigh Ann, I hope I'm spelling her name correctly) actually put my socks and sneakers on for me, after running to get plastic wrap to cover my toes so they wouldn't get ruined). Loved my experience here! This was my first visit - I booked myself a 60 minute Fusion massage with Suzanna who was wonderful. I recommend arriving to your appointment early so you can change into a comfy robe and enjoy the Zen room with a nice cup of hot tea. The staff were fabulous, very welcoming and accommodating. Suzanna was lovely, so kind, warm, and made me feel comfortable and at peace. Afterwards, I used their facilities to shower, which were very modern and clean. Lashes!!! I recently got lash extensions at Exhale. The session took about 60 minutes for Vera to put a full set on, and voila Kardashian eyelashes! I'm thrilled with the result! I didn't realize this before I got them done, but you don't have to wear mascara or eyeliner with these extensions (they actually suggest you don't wear mascara because it breaks down the glue). It is such a time saver, they look real, and I've gotten so many "wow, your eyelashes are so long!" compliments. :) It's been a few weeks now and I can honestly say that they are worth it! If I could give six stars, I would. I came here twice on a gilt city package with a couple of friends and the experience from beginning to end was fantastic. I had a massage, facial , mani, pedi, and did a cardio barre class. All were fantastic. The front desk managers were always courteous, accommodating and on point, helping to arrange and coordinate complex scheduling of multiple services for me and my friends. The professionals from the classroom instructor, massage therapists, facial therapists, mani/pedi therapists, and maintenance staff seem happy and proud of their work, always happy to share an extra piece of useful advice for you to take home. The facilities are luxurious with towel warmers, slippers, robes, a hamam room, a quiet room, and all the amenities you will ever need.
