She spoke to me with a lot of attitude and I believe it had to do with the colour of my skin. As a brown girl, I have a friend of colour who was also mistreated by Sally. Got a groupon for hair color and cut. The service was prompt and friendly. The World Cup was playing on a big screen which was fun being that there were no guys in the salon. The head colourist is Brazilian and was cheering on her home team. It gave you a small town home feel in the big city of Markham. My hair and color was standard but was done right and with care. This is my first ever Yelp review, and also a public service announcement to anyone who purchases a Groupon for this establishment. Firstly, the haircut by Cindy definitely satisfied my expectations. She somehow managed to soften the broom-like consistency without any form of treatment, which I do appreciate. Unfortunately, the dye job was abysmal. Abysmal. Combined with one of the surliest receptionists I've ever encountered, my overall experience was generally negative. I showed Cindy several images of how I wanted the highlights to look, and she hardly took notice. I requested caramel, and received brass. To make matters worse, the colour somehow bled into the rest of my hair, resulting in a puddle of dull brown beneath my copper streaks. Suffice it to say that I have an appointment at a different salon this evening. I've kept this dye job for a week, and I no longer wish to be the butt of my friends' jokes. This is review is based on the use of a Groupon. I was really happy with my experience at Expo. They were professional and friendly, which doesn't always go hand in hand when redeeming deal coupons. Appointment was easy to make. I had a cut, colour, and full highlights. Total time in salon was roughly 3 hours. It's a small space with 3 women working at the time. They were chatty or quiet based on the clientele, which I appreciate because I don't always want to engage in small talk, nor do I like dead silence. A tv plays in the background, strictly daytime talk shows. They offer coffee, water and chocolate throughout your service which is a nice touch. My hair was long, so there was a bonus charge for that and also for toner. I was told about the charges up front and they were very reasonable. With the long hair fee, toner and tax on the groupon, I believe the extra charges were about $45 or so, not bad. I'll happily return to Expo hair for a touch up once my roots start to grow out. read more

They have great insight to what will work with your hair. My colour and cut turned out great and added highlights are a cute bonus. The hairdresser is excellent. I used to have long hair and wanted to cut it short but I was still half-minded of what I wanted as I was not sure how it would look on me. The owner is the one who did the cut and made me feel comfortable. However I didn't like the person who washed my hair, she was like not looking at what she was doing and i ended up with shampoo and water on my eyes. She had to wash my hair twice as she didn't wash off the shampoo properly. The salon is clean and customer service from the owner and staff is great. They served me with coffee after my hair got washed. I wish i could took off only half star for the lady that wash my hair but we can't do half on Yelp. read more

I recently visited the expo hair lounge and I am very pleased with the results, actually amazed! (I'm also writing this review a few days after having my hair done so I've had time to feel it out) Well I showed her a pic or two of hair that interested me with colour and cut and I'm sure she's seen her fair share of clients wish pics! But she did it. She nailed it! She took into consideration my hair type, it's condition (thin and over processed with a 2 inch grow out with fn grey strands that look kinked) and made a great judgment call on how to execute what I wanted. I can honestly say I havnt had a hair cut this good in a long time. Colour is great - spot on! I live in the west end of Toronto and can definitely say it was worth the trek! Sherry you are fantastic!!!!! In an important note I have read reviews in this review site and others and was a little apprehensive because some people said she was expensive, but what good hair dresser isn't. It's always important to discuss with your hairdresser what the plan is and if your not sure discuss the price. Everyone's hair isn't the same nor are the prices. I spoke with Sherry and I told her what I wanted and what didn't want. End of story with no surprises. It's not like one of the salons you go into and you don't understand what the technician is saying and you get up sold without even realizing it. I hope this helps other reviewers see that hair done at this place is done very well. Other places you might be comparing this place to is that you might be getting what you pay for. Cindy gave me a fresh cut and colour a few months back. She was really great at giving me suggestions on which shade of brown to choose and fulfilled my request of just cutting my hair shorter but not any particular style. The lady helping her was nice too, even offered to make my mother and I a lovely tea along with giving me unlimited amounts of chocolate covered biscuits during the 1.5 hours that I was here. I used a groupon deal, and there was an extra charge for long hair and you SHOULD tip on the full amount as always, and it still ended up being less than $100 all in for me. Which is such a steal considering salons usually charge $200 or more to cut and colour long hair these days. I felt all freshened up after leaving the salon. Cindy knows how to talk to her customers, she'll talk to you if you are feeling up to it, or leave you alone if you want to relax. I saw many regulars come in that day and would recommend her. It is a bit far from me (East Markham) but if I am ever in the area needing a new hairdo, wouldn't hesitate to visit her again. read more

I was a groupon customer.I did the $75 highlight package with colour, cut, highlight and blow dry. I will defiantly be returning to expo. I had pictures of exactly what I wanted and they totally achieved the look. Everyone was very friendly. One person did the colour, another did the highlights and cut and and another did the rinsing and shampooing in between, so they didn't just pass me off to the jr stylist which was nice. When I was about done I noticed a couple pieces near the top were a lot brighter than the rest of the highlights due to the first few inches being virgin hair. They happily applied a second round of toner to that area to match it to the rest. The salon atmosphere is clean, modern and cozy. The only complaint is that they had the radio and the tv going at the same time and the tv was very loud. Everyone was trying to talk over it, which didn't make for the most relaxing experience. read more

I Went to this place based on the good reviews they have on Groupon so I buy the highlights deal, I guess you get what you paid for the whole job was a mess I wanted to cry but out of politeness I didnt said anything so I went home and realize it was even worse than what I saw in the mirror at the saloon, I have like 10 different types of color in my hair I have hair lines in the base of the color that went from white to brassy yellow and the funny thing it was all over my head and the lady who did the job didn't even said anything like I was not going to realize of the mess. Long story short I call back and they said they can fix it for next day but honestly I was very afraid to let my hair in those people's hand again so I found a very nice lady in a hair salon that honestly save my life because I was looking like a tiger it was so bad I can't even describe it :(. I do not recommend anyone to have highlights at this place they clearly don't know what they are doing is the worst thing I have ever done in my hair ever :( read more

I went here Saturday June 3rd, looking for a new hair salon in my area. I was a Groupon customer. There was a huge traffic jam directly in front of the salon which caused me to be 20 minutes late so it was very busy and that may be why it was so rushed. Being late sets everything back and I get that. But I felt as if my hair was done very very quickly. It was a rushed job. I got full head highlights and hair cut. The highlights aren't TERRIBLE... I've had worse for sure. But they are a bit chunky/patchy for my liking. A little(just a little!) more time would have made smaller, less stripey highlights. Also towards the end when I got my cut I asked for choppy hair, because I absolutely hate the look of a blunt cut on my hair. I got a blunt cut. All in all, not the worst I ever had but I will definitely be looking elsewhere next time. I felt the service was rushed and just 10 more minutes on my highlights and 10 more minutes on my cut it would have made the world of a difference. I don't love my hair, which is what I look for after getting my hair done. I don't care if it's a Groupon, that should warrant an even better job because it's a potential long term customer. I had an appointment at 11am , and arrive 5 minutes before 11. When I arrive there was no receptionist sitting at the desk so I sat down on the chairs in front of the reception thinking maybe she just walked away , 10 minutes later I walked into the area where two stylist was doing hair and told one of them that I had an appointment at 11, she then told me to sit down and I did, 20 minutes later she comes over and asks me what I wanted done when I already told the lady when I was making the appointment a week ago what I wanted done . I told her I was using a Groupon for the cut and colour and partial highlights , and she tells me to sit down. I was greeted by cyndi who was very kind and welcoming , I showed her pictures of what I wanted and she gave me a medium bob with it longer in the front which I asked for. The cut was uneven , it was choppy and the cut wasn't in a straight line at the bottom which I asked for. She then asked me what colour I wanted and I told her a silver ash colour and she asked me what about the highlights I told her an ashy silver . She applied the highlights dye to my hair with her fingers and toned it after . I paid an extra $20 to get it toned and didn't know they wouldn't do the highlights without that extra $20. After she dye it, it was no where close to silver and was a dark brown with lemon coloured/ yellow highlights that were uneven and a mess. I had to spend another $300 to get my hair dyed at another salon to fix the mess. read more

Do not buy a groupon for this place especially if you have dark hair. I went in with an appointment at 2 pm. The staff were not friendly, they had 3 other customers in the salon and 4 people working the floor yet I waited till 2:30 pm to be told to change. It wasn't until 3 pm my processing of hair actually started. In between this time I had to speak to and repeat to 4 different people what I wanted and what the state and history of my hair was. They all seemed unimpressed and as though it was going to be a hassle when my hair was very healthy and only had dark dye in it from 6 months ago which was mostly faded. This is beyond unprofessional first of all. They did ask me if I wanted tea or coffee out of formality which is to be expected of any place. They kept going back somewhere and whispering to each other. I even brought pictures to show them what I wanted. I was told immediately by one person that it would be "extra" for ombre when I wasn't going for ombre and she didn't even bother looking at the rest of the pictures I was trying to show. Then when that didn't work out I was told they'd charge me $80 extra for colour removal first. They didn't even give me the chance to refuse and made faces as though they were dealing with a hair disaster. They were extremely unprofessional not pleasant to deal with or speak to except the colorist. I was going for subtle highlights a shade lighter and it was shown to me and confirmed from the colour book. The highlights/bleach in my hair were left for too long. I was told "5 more minutes" but the colorist came back after 20 minutes. I couldn't tell how bright the highlights were in my hair till I got home let alone the fact that they were nothing close to what was agreed on. There was a huge bright neon yellow spot in the front of my part (which was the result of me asking for "few" face framing highlights HUGE MISTAKE). This is so basic it's beyond me that they would forget that roots take bleach faster. The highlights all over my head were brassy yellow almost orange looking nothing like the dark/medium brown highlights I wanted and not even close to subtle. It was so bad that I had to go out to Sally's and get hairdye to go over my hair so I don't have to go in to work on Monday with it. I ended up paying $80 to groupon + $80 + $15 for long/medium length hair plus tip (which I honestly don't know why I bothered, I was trying to be optimistic and not cause a scene) and almost $200 for a horrible hair experience. I don't want to go back to the salon because I know for a fact they will damage my hair even more than they already have and will make faces and give me attitude. It was a good groupon deal for haircut and full highlights and colour. I'm by no means complaining about the price even the extra money paid but the work has to be worth it but it was absolutely terrible. read more

Went to Expo Hair Studio to get my hair color, after waiting for a long period the owners daughter eventually did my hair. The casher whom is the owner's sister told me the price which they make up arbitrarily. I was told that my bill was $230.00!!!! I was in shock, I don't even think the stars pay that amount to color there hair, they told me they did a color correction and color, I didnt have a hair cut, highlight or style. I was literally speechless, when I ask the casher for an itemized bill to see exactly what I was being charged for she just ignored me. The people who own and work here are scam artists, this is not the first time they overcharged me or try to get me to purchase some over priced products.
