I've been coming to Yonge Salon for the past 5 years. I love that they have good hours, are super close to my place, and usually have a stylist available. The place is clean and spacious. Unfortunately, the prices have consistently crept upwards, now with a woman's cut at $55. At some point, they were on the cheaper side for the neighbourhood, but it's no longer so. I still come here because Yuka, Kate, and now Ivy do such a good job thinning out my hair. Much attention to detail ( and I have a lot of hair!). Had an awesome experience here!! Located right near Finch station, Yonge Salon is a great spot for a haircut, colour, or perm. They specialize in Korean and Japanese techniques. I booked an appointment for Saturday and was running late, they quickly rescheduled me to just half an hour later which I really appreciated. My barber was Teddy, and he did a phenomenal job. He really took his time, and I really appreciated the detail and effort he put in. He asked me to show a picture of what I wanted, but he also got a feel for my hair type and thickness in order to best cut my hair. The cut for men is $25, Teddy also washed and styled my hair (others mentioned that this is an additional charge, but I wasn't charged). Went here for the first time for a woman's haircut and didn't realize how choppy my hair looked afterwards since I received a blowout. I specifically asked for long layers/keep the same hairstyle and just trimming the dead ends but I ended up with shorter layers than expected. I wasn't truly upset with having shorter layers but the layers were not blended at all. They were very choppy and looks like it was cut straight across. read more

I've cut my hair a couple times here and both were great experiences. They cut quick, accurate and the prices are definitely worthy. My wife and I are also picky when it comes to who cuts our hair, and she now only goes to see Yuhei. We had an incredible customer service experience with him recently, as she had an appointment booked Saturday at 7pm, but Yuhei was super busy and couldn't see us until about 745pm. We had dinner plans, so we rescheduled for the following day. Once her haircut was finished, Yuhei would not accept our money and said it was on the house for not being able to fit her in yesterday. For a job where it's physical labor, and refusing to take cash because of a small error takes alot of care in our opinion. I came here for a Cheon Song Yi haircut. The stylist was probably asked for this a gazillion times, but in my life of terrible haircuts mostly due to not knowing what style would fit my face shape, this style is a safe bet. Skill: 10/10 I think my stylist was able to replicate that haircut well and she was very gentle with my hair. My hair really likes to fall in front of my face, and the stylist took some time to use the blowdryer on the roots to make them bend backwards and it worked for a bit, but my hair is really stubborn and as you can see in my result photo ~20 min later my hair was falling back to the front of my face again. Value: 7/10 It was $25 for a cut, which is fairly reasonable. Not sure if they charge differently for just a trim though. If it was $25 and I just needed a trim, that would be expensive. There are no signs with the prices so you have to ask the receptionist. You get a stamp card where if you go for 6 haircuts the 7th is free (that or 7 haircuts and the 8th is free, I forget which). Service/Convenience: 8/10 Located on Yonge St. close to Finch station, fairly easy to find. Their sign says "Yonge Hair Salon". They are very friendly in greeting you and the wait is not too long. I did a haircut and a digital perm here about 3 weeks ago and now I can write a review. A young female hair stylist (did not know her name) gave me the haircut. Pros: 1. Over all, I'm satisfied with the result. I went in with a photo of an actress and told them I wanted my hair exactly like that. So now I look at the result, it is probably 80% like the photo, so I think they did a decent job. 2. Following point one, despite the hair is not exactly like in the photo, most of my friends and family said the hair was cute, so that's a plus point. 3. Despite I did not have an appointment, they managed to squeeze me in. 4. The hair stylist was not too talkative, which I liked, because I didn't really want to chat. Cons: 1. I was looking for a thin, airy bang, but she cut it too thick for me. (sectioned too much hair into the bang) 2. The result of digital perm turned out less wavy than I wanted. Now after 3 weeks, the digital perm is starting to straighten. Probably would overdo the curls next time or exaggerate when I describe to the stylist. 3. There was no scalp massage during/after hair wash. I suppose a massage is common in many salons. read more

I have been wanting to try this place out since I have heard great things about it. The Korean salon is only 1-2 minute walk from the finch subway station. It is sort of tucked in one of the shops as you walk on yonge. It is right beside Puck n' wings sports bar and 2 doors down is the famous Korean stationary store - Morning Glory. Don't be mistaken by the B&B hair salon, which is RIGHT outside of the finch station, this yonge hair salon has orange signs. I made an appointment to get my haircut on a Wednesday evening at 4:45pm with Sylvia as many yelpers commented that she's really good for a simple cut. I got there 15 minutes early and was greeted by a staff at the front desk. She was very polite and asked to take my jacket and my purse. Not long later, Sylvia finished with her client and came for me. I told her what I wanted in terms how much to chop off and she gave me suggestions on how short she should cut my bangs. There wasn't any communication between us during the haircut and I was fine with that. I get really nervous every time a hairdresser cuts my hair, whether I know them or not, so it is best to just let them concentrate. The price for a women's haircut with $25 tax in, no hair wash. If you do want them to wash your hair, it is an extra $5. For men, it is $20. Prices will go up in January 2018. Sylvia also does ombre/balayage and for my medium, shoulder length hair, she said it starts at ~$150. If you want a simple hair cut, nothing too fancy, then this is the place to go. They do take walk-ins, but they are always booked, which is a good sign, so it would be best to make an appointment if you want to secure a spot or else you will have to wait for the next available time. There are also other hairdressers there too. A few of them could speak Japanese. There was also a male hairstylist too. TIPS: they only take debit or cash. No credit cards. read more

I got my haircut done from them today and I love it. I have been growing my hair ever since and this is the first time I got them shorter. Lisa helped me get the look I wanted. She understood the style I wanted and delivered the result. She has very soft hands and even explained me what would look good on my face. A little high on the price point but worth it. They adjusted me in on a very short notice and still paid full attention to my needs. The salon was pretty busy even in the morning. I would definitely come back to get my hair done from Lisa. Found them on yelp so I decided to give them a try. I wish I took a picture of their prices but it said online and on the price poster that women's hair cut is $30 & up, men's is $25. Wash is $5 extra and style is an additional $10. I didn't need a wash and I didn't need a style but he styled my hair anyway (without asking)... then charged me for some of it? I was expecting to pay $30 for my trim... But I paid $35 for a trim and for my hair to be styled not in the way I would have wanted it (he used a curling iron and made the ends flip out...) If they had asked instead of charging me, I would have given them a better rating because I was content with my trim (but it's hard to mess up a trim). I'm ehhh about this place. If it's the norm to charge $35 for a basic haircut, you should update your prices. read more

This is my current go to hair salon, mainly because their prices are very affordable ($20 for men's which includes cut and wash, not sure about women, and $60 for hair colouring). Personally, I get the very trendy short back and sides, and a longer top part. I've had Yu Hei and Gina cut my hair in this style and they're both super meticulous, considerate, and very friendly. I've had Silvy colour my hair before and she was very knowledgeable about shades and tones and was also had great attention to detail. I would recommend this place to anyone (probably should have Asian hair since they specialize in that) looking for a reasonably priced haircut and a warm environment. read more

If it was just for the skill of the stylists - I would give a 4-5 star! I am always satisfied with my haircuts here and I've been coming to this salon for about 3 years now since my friend recommended it. I've had my hair cut by a few different stylists here because they come and go frequently and I haven't been disappointed yet (knock on wood). I am terrified of people cutting my hair due to previous bad experiences but it looks like I've found a safe haven! However I find price is a little inconsistent... and I'm unsure how that works. The past few years I've come here, it has always been $20 cut for long hair...and then I usually gave $3 tips. I went back today since my last cut late March, and was charged $25. I asked if the prices had raised..but they said it's been this way for as long as they remember. I didn't argue..but I forgot to tip in the midst of confusion. What if the next time I come they end up charging $30? For a male cut, my friend was charged $20 and he would also tip after. But I am reading a previous review that a cut and wash was $17. Prices for bangs, or a simple trim also vary between my friends. There are no signs showing that prices have changed and it eats away at credibility a bit. After reading the reviews of Yonge, Sora and Maya salons, I decided going to Yonge for a Japanese style haircut due to convenience of this location (where it is right beside Finch Station). Since Silvia had her day off on Monday, I went for Yuhei instead and he is an awesome Japanese stylist. His English listening and speaking skills are completely fine and therefore clients should be worry-free in terms of communication problem. My hair was at shoulder length and I only asked for a hairstyle to be easily taken care of without shampooing at the salon ( which means I saved $5 and no hair massage). He added volume for my dull hairstyle with a hair strengthener (I felt the heat although I closed my eyes all the way through with my complete trust on him). He cut/trimmed my hair for about 30 minutes with a bob medium-length finish and charged $35 which is considered acceptable in year 2018 from my point of view. I don't usually write reviews, yet I think you can find your ideal East Asian (i.e. Japanese and Korean) hairstylists + hairstyles here in Toronto as long as you have read through all the reviews here at Yelp regardless you are locals or travellers. (If I remember correctly, this is the second time I went to this salon after year 2013. Sora was also fine 5 years ago but it was a bit far for those who reside at the suburban areas.) (*For those who demand hair massages with better customer service, Hair Happiness, Kazu (if it is still there at Scarborough?) and Atlier May might be your preferences whereas their prices are higher compared to Yonge Hair Salon.) read more

Found this salon because of its convenient location...and decent reviews on google. They were able to accommodate me and my fiancé the same day I called which is nice of them. I asked for someone who can speak English well..just in case. I was greeted by a young man who was sitting at the receptionist desk. I thought he was a helper or something. Turns out he was my salonist. His name is "yuhei" and he's Japanese (I thought everyone was Korean here). It's pretty cool that They had Japanese people here too. I'm not use to men cutting my hair, but I don't care either lol. He was amazing nonetheless. I have really thick and long hair. He was very friendly and cut my hair particularly to what I wanted. It's a bit shorter than what I wanted but i guess its because I requested 1.5 inch off...for buffer purposes, I guess it's always good to ask for 1 inch off. In the end, he asked if he can style it a little, I said sure and he gave me some curls. He didn't charge me either for it and it's very pretty. He cut both men and women's hair so probably I'll have him cut my finance's hair next time as well. He spent a good lengthly time and did a good job with the type of hair I have. Did my hair here with Jamie for ombre/balayage highlight. I'm very happy with the colour and olaplex treatment they offered! I have a very fine asian hair - my hair was bleached twice to achieve the colour i wanted and thanks to olaplex my hair withstand it! The reason I only gave 4 stars was because Jamie is a bit clumsy when she did my hair. I did not enjoy the moment when she washed and brush my hair because she did it harshly. Honestly was great! Amazing price as I got a wash, haircut, and style for $45 flat (I guess including tax? It didn't seem like they added tax haha, even when I paid with debit).I tipped generously bc I was so pleased with my results. I cut about an inch off and styled my hair with waves. It was for a graduation photo. The waves survived 3 days, including really rainy weather, until I washed my hair. The girl who did my hair was really nice, she was careful and took her time. Sadly, it was her last week at the salon as she was leaving for her home in Japan. Regardless, I'd definitely go back - with those prices, how could I not haha. read more

Visited on Feb 25, 2015. Can't believe nobody has done a review for this salon before, it's been here at least 8 years. The hair stylists are very nice and courteous. I got a lovely men's haircut and wash for $17. The place is fairly clean and the chairs are comfortable. They have old clippings of movie stars to show their hairstyles taped to the wall which looks kind of ghetto haha. I will be coming back every month from now on for haircuts. I recently had my hair cut there and they totally screwed it up. I asked for shoulder length cutting - the result is that it was way too short, and uneven everywhere. Some hair from inside was sticking out and it looked as if I cut my own hair with no skill. I went back to fix it and the owner trimmed anything sticking out while my hair stylist totally ignored me, saying nothing and no greeting. I told the owner that the hair stylist should have been apologizing to me instead of pretending he has nothing to do with the situation. The funny thing is what the owner said to me "We don't apologize to our customers. You know, things happen and I, myself, fixed the problem." I told her "You are in service industry. The first thing you have to do when an unsatisfied customer comes back is to apologize." I am never going back to these people with wrong attitude towards customers. read more

I went back to this salon in late August to get a touch up on my Japanese Straight Perm and I'm not pleased at all. 1) I was charged $200 for a touch up which is way too much for a touch up for only 2 inches of hair. 2) The owner, Lisa, left me unattended for very long periods of time and made one of the other stylists in the salon attend to me. I've noticed that my hair is extremely dull and dry so that's how I know my hair was over-processed. 3) While waiting for my hair to process, my scalp had started to burn and when I complained I was just brushed off. First of all, the solution isn't supposed to burn so that's something that was definitely off. 4) Afterwards, while Lisa was cutting my hair, she seemed to be in a rush and my whole head was choppy. On top of that, I showed her a picture of how I wanted my side bangs to be cut and she cut it nowhere close to the picture. She just took a section of my hair and cut it straight across. That's it. No shaping. No styling with an iron. Nothing. It was terrible and I'm still trying to grow it out. I'm NEVER returning to this salon which makes me quite sad. My first experience here was amazing and the staff is so kind, but I cannot go to a salon where the OWNER neglects a customer. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the girl that was assisting Lisa in applying the solution to my hair was very sweet and kind. She gave me tips of how to take care of my hair and she was very gentle. Too bad I won't be returning. read more

I gave it a try because my hairstylist from another place was on vacation. Honestly, the haircut was good but I can get the same quality haircut for lower price elsewhere. For guys like me who needs a haircut every 3 to 4 weeks this is a tiny bit too pricy. Not crazy expensive so, if you don't know a better place to get a haircut, then this place is not bad. Back home, I only have one stylist that cut my hair. So when I moved here in toronto that's my main concern. My mom told me that she gets her haircut from this place near our condo. When I get there, it wasn't really what I expected. It's very simple looking, and just your average hair salon. Not fancy at all. My mom told me to look for Sylvia, and that was the best advice I got. I have been going to this place for 2 years now and only sylvia touches my hair. First came here a year ago for a haircut. It's my first time since I moved to Canada and they didn't disappoint. Went in today for the second time and got a haircut from Jamie and i love the result!!! I was asking her to cut my hair shorter to get rid of my dry and tangled hair ends, but she suggested a length that was appropriate for my face shape (not too short but she got rid of the damaged ends), then she styled my hair after the cut with no extra charge. She was very careful and took her time. She also suggested a treatment for my dry hair. Will be back soon for that! They're all very nice and accommodating despite of the language barrier.
