I visited Express Auto Repair on Montebello Lane today. I had just arrived from Canyon City and needed to check my tire pressure and windshield wipers. I called them this morning and spoke with Garrett, who was very polite and helpful. He said I could come in for a courtesy check. Bill, the mechanic, was very knowledgeable and courteous. Great customer service! The service was excellent! They checked my tire pressure and replaced my windshield wipers. They also sell wiper blades if you ever need them. Overall, I'm very happy with the service and the value. I highly recommend Express Auto Repair. They have another location South of Colorado Springs and are opening a new shop near Briargate. This was an outstanding experience at the repair shop. Byler was friendly, attentive, and communicative as he kept me informed of my car's status. My heater's blower motor went out. I got on their website, booked a timeslot, and I was able to be early for the appt. When I arrived, I was immediately helped and my car was done super fast. I think the price was fair, no complaints! Got the windshield washer squirter "fixed," then timing belt kit with waterpump shortly after. Squirter didn't work, took it in and was charged again for it not to work. Called them mentioning the washer squirter still didn't work and was told to come in the week after because they were busy and to check the hoses myself. Meanwhile, a subtle, initially intermittent sound from the timing cover began to progressively get louder and more consistent (https://youtu.be/dBi-fjlaHD8) and the car began to slowly lose power. I tried to take the car to their Southern location to get someone else to look at the car and it died on the way there. I then called them and they denied having done the work (but I have receipts to prove they did) and refused to have it towed to their other location because it would cost them more money. read more

First, I know I previously reviewed this repair shop in August 2021 on Yelp, however it is not visible. That's suspicious! Mid-July 2021 I had an appointment to have fluids topped off, check the battery, and do a "once over" before I took a road trip. When I received the inspection report, there was no mention of the battery's status. The report indicated several fluids needed to be flushed and all four brake pads were worn down to 3mm and needed to be replaced ASAP. I responded to text messages from two different shop phone numbers. In my replies to each text, I indicated "I am declining all fluid flushing and brake pad replacement. Please top off all fluids and replace the filters. There is no mention of the battery, please check it." (I knew my coolant was very low and needed to be topped off.) There was more to the text messages, but the key points are included above. The very new service manager called me to clarify "So, just the coolant and filters?" I said yes, meaning add coolant. He indicated that it would cost $300+ which surprised me but I failed to speak up. I thought maybe there was a charge for the inspection. It took several hours before I received a text saying my car was ready. When I went to pick up my car, I discovered that there is an extra 4% fee if you pay with a credit card! While I was frustrated about the extra fee, I paid with a card and and signed the invoice/receipt. As service manager continued the process, I looked at the itemized invoice closely and saw that THEY FLUSHED THE COOLANT which was a $200+ charge! Too late, I had already signed the invoice. Service manager and I negotiated a small solution to the error. Besides the coolant flushing, I was surprised to learn from my longtime maintenance shop in the state where I previously lived that each of my brake pads had 6-6.5 mm remaining. He would not replace them even though that was what I requested when I took the car to him. He did find issues with my belts and advised I replace them as soon as I returned to COS. Upon my return, I took my car to a new car repair shop for the replacement of the belts and everything that goes with it. I also asked them to check my brake pads. They also confirmed that the pads had at least 6mm remaining. Bottom line, I will never go back to Express Auto Repair because of deceptive practices and the fact that they charge a 4% fee for credit card payments (which is much higher than most credit card services charge.) read more

I had my car towed to Express Auto Repair because my alternator stopped working. When I called, I spoke to Garrett who recommended Bugs Towing. Now I see that they advertise FREE TOWING... hmm. I paid full price to have my vehicle towed by Bugs. False Advertising? I'd say so. Then I got the quote. Garrett wanted to charge me almost $1000 for an alternator. I thought I had found a decent and trustworthy place to get auto service but I was mistaken. I think they thought I was an easy target. So I had my car towed elsewhere... and I paid full price for that one too. read more

This place is great! Smaller more personal shop so you will be taken care of. I have a Subaru Crosstrek which needed a new steering rack and was still under warranty from where I bought the car. Bought it in Denver so this shop was recommended instead since it is closer. Napa made sure my warranty was approved for work that needed to be done and my car got fixed. Napa seems to only use quality parts and mechanics are definitely experienced and knowledgeable! Definitely will be coming back for routine maintenance! read more

Car would crank but didn't start on Sunday a few weeks back. Had it towed to Express Auto Sunday. Called Monday and asked for diagnosis which they were able to start on Tuesday which I was very happy with. First diagnosis, they said they ruled out electrical but would need another diagnosis on Wednesday to figure it out. Called back Thurs morning and they said their only suggestion was a $5,000 engine replacement. The car isn't even worth $1K. Was never given a clear reason for this, - I still have no idea how they came up with this. My Unlce, who is not a mechanic, towed it away and got it running better than before in about 2 days and for under $400 - this also included several other fixes unrelated to the engine. I don't expcet them to do the work for free, just a little transparency. Very dishonest practices. I wouldn't recommend you take your car here. read more

I want to provide accurate details so others can understand the situation and learn from my experience.** July 15, 2021 was my first appointment with Express Auto Repair. When I made the appointment, I indicated I wanted "all the fluids topped off and the battery checked." When I dropped off the car, I indicated that I wanted all the fluids topped off, the battery checked, and a "once over" before I take a trip out of state. Patrick sent me a text shortly after 11 a.m. and it included a link to the Vehicle Condition Report along with a phone number to call if I wanted to discuss it. I received a second text from a different phone number saying they would need my authorization before they could move forward with the repair(s). Since I was unable get a phone call to transfer correctly to the Montebello shop, I replied to Patrick's text (I'm thankful I texted) with detailed instructions. My reply said "On the report, I don't see any mention of the battery condition. Can you have someone check that? Please top off coolant and any other fluid that is low. If the coolant is from a bottle and I'm charged for the entire bottle, I want to keep any unused coolant. Replace the two filters. I am declining all the flushing and brake pad replacements. You can initiate a call to me if you need to discuss." I also replied to the text from the second phone number. That texted conversation went: Me: "I responded to the previous texts I received with link to the report" Shop Employee: "Did you have any questions about the report?" Me: "Just about the battery. In my text reply to the original texts I received, I approved some items and declined all flushing and brake pad replacements Please check those reply's before proceeding." Patrick, the service manager at the front desk, did initiate a phone call to me and asked something along the lines of "So, it's just the coolant and filters?" and I replied "Yes." He did advise me that it would be $300+ which absolutely shocked me, but I didn't say anything to him. I figured I must have been charged for the "once over" inspection. My big errors in this transaction are that I didn't ask why topping off fluids, checking the battery, and replacing filters were so expensive. Also, when I went to pick up my car, I signed the invoice without looking it over carefully. After I signed the invoice, I saw that they FLUSHED THE COOLANT and I was charged at least $200 for that service! There was still no information provided about the status of the car battery. I brought this to Patrick's attention and showed him my texts. (This was his first week at this repair shop, although he had previous experience as a service manager elsewhere.) The phone call that we had created a miscommunication. Both Patrick and I were stumped as to how to handle this big miscommunication. It's not like he could take the coolant out. Because I signed the paperwork and provided him with my credit card, he wasn't able to change the charges. He made several calls to his boss or the shop owner. They offered to send me a check, but I declined it because it might get stuck "in the mail" and I wouldn't have any documentation to follow up. Patrick indicated he only had $xxx, cash in the office. I said, "If you can give me $50, I will call it good." Patrick received approval to do that. Please note that Patrick was very professional and respectful in all of our conversations. IF this was all that happened, I probably wouldn't be writing this review with one star. However, on the Vehicle Condition Report it indicated that each of my four brake pads only had 3mm remaining, and it was strongly recommended that they be replaced. Before leaving on my trip to Idaho, I called and made an appointment with my long time, trusted, car repair shop in Boise and asked to have the brake pads replaced, check the belts and the battery. Imagine my surprise when the shop owner called me to say that the brake pads DO NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED YET! He indicated that there was 60-65% remaining usage on the brake pads--far more than the 3mm reported from Express Auto Repair!! Now I am feeling deceived by Express Auto Repair. I'll be looking for a different Colorado Springs auto repair shop that I can trust and rely on. read more

What a great experience! My wife's engine oil pressure switch went out. Nobody likes taking the car in to get repaired, but these guys made it easy and affordable for my wife and I. Eric O. made me feel comfortable right from the first interaction. The rest of the guys I spoke to were friendly as well. Express Auto Repair and service located at 5360 Montebello Lane Colorado Springs, CO. I took my 2006 Ford Taurus to have an exhaust leak looked at. It should have been 10-15 minute job. Instead they had it for most of the morning evaluating the whole car and taking pictures of things they recommended for repair. Which I didn't authorize. Remember I just needed an exhaust leak looked at. And then they wanted to charge me more than the car was worth. Not a very good service for $116.00 read more

Jim and the team are the most honest and helpful folks I've ever worked with. Having them put in new wheel bearings was the quickest and most painless vehicle maintenance event I've ever had. I came in knowing I needed a wheel bearing replaced, but they refused to do any work on my car until they verified that the wheel bearing was the issue. After swapping my wheel bearings (at a highly competitive rate in comparison to most shops in the area), they aligned my wheels and sent me on my merry way! Jim Dembiczak and the team here are exceptional. I had taken my 1993 Ford Explorer XLT to a competitive shop and, after spending $179 for a diagnostic, I was told I needed $3,500 in total repairs. My truck is in great condition and it is my pride and joy. So, yes, I am going to fix it whatever it costs. The owner of the firm that I work for mentioned to me the importance of getting a second opinion. I am glad I did. He also praised this shop for taking care of his company vehicles for many years. Upon arriving, Jim made you feel right at home, as if I were a member of the family. He offered to re-diagnose and confirm the actual cost to do what needed to be done. $1,300 later, all is complete and my truck is back in working order. I will start of by saying I have been treated fairly here for the past few years, and I feel they have done a good job with repairs on my car in the past, but that was not the case when I brought my car in on 7/26/18. I had a light come on indicating I needed to have my transmission checked (07' Honda Pilot -135,000 miles) a few days before I brought it in. The car had no noticable transmission issues and was driving just fine (no noises, problems changing gears, slipping etc.) Prior to dropping the car off I checked the transmission fluid, which was full, and was a normal looking shade of red color to me. After dropping the car off at the shop, I received a call from Jim saying the transmission fluid was rusty, dirty, and oxidized, and that this indicated a serious problem with the transmission, and that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. I was quoted around $3500 for a used transmission from Canada with 66,000 miles, and would need to decide quickly as the transmission likely would not be around long. Having just seen the fluid myself, I was pretty surprised to hear the comments about the fluid not being in good shape, so I declined to go foreward with the transmission replacement and decided to go ahead and get a second opinion. I took my car to a shop in town that only works on transmissions the next day on 7/27/18. I wanted an honest unbiased opinion so I did not mention what had happened the previous day, I simply stated that I had a check transmission light on and wanted them to take a look. A few hours later they called and stated the transmission error light was from a third clutch pressure switch that went bad, and a replacement would cost 80 bucks (160 total with labor.) It took about an hour to fix, and this immediately got rid of the error light. They checked the transmission fluid, and noted it to be clean and full. They stated their was zero indication for a new transmission. I drove the car for a few weeks (with no problems) before letting Jim at auto express know what had happened. He doubled down that the transmission is going to go bad at some point in the future (no matter what the company specializing in only transmissions had to say.) He was adament that they are always honest, yet was unable to explain why I was told transmission fluid that was in perfectly good shape was suggested to be critically dirty and indicated an impending transmission failure. He also didn't have an answer for why we wouldn't try out an $80 dollar switch to see if that cleared the error code prior to putting in a $3,500 used transmission. I can't answer that either, at worst I was lied to in order to replace a healthy transmission, at best somebody didn't know what they were doing and it nearly accidentally caused $3500 of unessecary work. Either way I can't afford to do business with a place like that, and will have to find a new mechanic. Be warned that in the end you can't trust what the reviews say, or what you think you know about a place, as their is just no substitution for doing your due diligence by making sure you always get a second opinion. read more

I have been taking our cars here the last 4 years since moving to Colorado Springs. They do it right at a reasonable price considering the quality of service. Just recently our 2001 Infiniti QX4 was running rough. It was a Monday so they were busy and repair required a part that had to be obtained from the dealer. They communicated with me throughout so we could make arrangements to be with out it for a day. Their quality and cost is worth the wait along with the trust they have built with us. The car was done when they said and it runs great. They commented on how well it is running and it should since only they have worked on it. They also offered suggestions for making this 2 wheel rear wheel drive vehicle safer in the snow. They are simply the best in the business. read more

**SCAM** I went in for my traction control/ ABS indication lights. I was told they needed to run tests to find the problem. I got charged near $200 to replace a $5 brake light switch. A couple of days later the same lights came back on. I called the shop and they said they would fix it. Then i got charged $150 for a burned out brake light and "loose battery terminal connections". STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!!. They will string you along and suck you for money. read more

I had took my car to 2 different shops for a simple idling problem one shop completely broke my IAC motor and the other shop broke the connector. Both said they were already broken, what BS! After being stranded because of what was broken, I took my car to Express and Paul and his crew kept my car for a couple of day and went over it with a fine toothed comb and found out what was wrong. They fixed everything to get me back on the road with minimal expense.
