This place is lovely. Its not the cheapest place in Stafford but its still affordable and well…read moreworth a bit of extra money because its lovely! Ive only usually come here for hot drinks. The seating area is so comftorble, and theres a nice private area to the back with chairs & tables. The few times Ive come here for breakfast I had a bacon roll it was everything a bacon roll needed to be, but it was made special by being able to choose if I wanted white or brown bread, red or brown sauce? I came once in the evening when some live music was on (at the back in the outdoors part) it was really busy. A bit too busy to enjoy it properly - couldnt see the band and had to que forever for a drink. The only real complaint I have is that either they didnt have enough glass collectors working, or it was too busy for the staff to come around and collect the empty glasses - so people started leaving empty glasses everywhere and the place ended up with alot of smashed glass on the floor (and in the water feature!) But that complaint is minor, this place is one of the nicest places in Stafford.

The Swan Hotel is a perfect little spot to stay in should you find yourself in Stafford for a few…read moredays, as I did. It's got a great location, smack dab in the middle of things, you're never too far from your hotel. It's charming and the rooms are much larger than I had anticipated-- big bathroom as well. Everything was very clean and tidy. Staff was warm and friendly and ready to help at a moment's notice. It is an older building, so you will encounter some sloping floors in places and there isn't any AC in the rooms which was slightly problematic during the heatwave we encountered. I didn't get under the blankets once to sleep and the one meager fan in the room was expected to do quite a bit of heavy lifting to try and keep things reasonable. Loved having a pub downstairs for coffee and libation anytime of the day. I'd definitely stay again, just hopefully during a cooler spell!

In September of 2006 I was visiting England with the purpose of attending the wedding of my friends…read moreAly and Helen. After a long train and car ride I found myself in a lovely village known as Eccleshall. The main part of the village is simply a intersection lined with small shops and homes. While I was standing there a absolutely beautiful 20's era Bentley drove by. Won't you know it was even green, my favorite color. While window shopping I came across a grand millennium clock. It had 4 faces with one pointed in each direction. It was slender and blue which made it stand out very well from the red brick buildings which lined the streets. I came to a window of what seemed to be a pet shop. In that window there was a big sign which read. 3 Chocolate Bitches, 3 Black Bitches, and 3 Black Dogs. Being American I chuckled a bit and moved on. I strolled across the street to the inn where I was staying. The George Inn is straight out of the past and very reminiscent of the Inn featured in the movie Three Weddings and a Funeral. It is a large white building with green trim. Window boxes filled with flowers hang just below the window ledges. A large sign indicated the restaurant side of this establishment. Lets go in shall we? When you step into The George you find a small reception desk where you check in and out. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful with whatever needs you may have. Don't be afraid to ask, they don't mind where you come from, even America. Just through a doorway you will find the restaurant. I only had breakfast here but it is definitely worth a go. The full breakfast was very nice indeed. Two eggs over medium, toast, bacon, puddings, and coffee. The most civilized breakfast a mere man could ever wish for. Across from the restaurant you will find the pub. This room is from another time and if you haven't been in an old pub you will just have to see it to believe it. Tables are available for groups but I preferred sitting at the bar with my mates. Here the owner and brewer will present you with something very special. Slaters is his own label of brew and here it's whatever your pleasure since the available range is extensive. From Lager to Stout, Slater's has it all and the quality is fantastic. bring your mates and your thirst, it will be a top night guaranteed. The rooms are what are to be expected in a country inn. Nothing fancy but the comforts of home. It is very nice that my room had a window because I like some circulation while I sleep. The bed is comfortable but don't expect pillow top comfort. Their is a private bath in the room, did the shared bath thing once and it was unpleasant to say the least. There is a wardrobe for your clothes if you don't like living out of your suitcase. I have done so much traveling so I rarely unpack unless I am going to be staying in one place for a while. So if you read my review and find yourself in Eccleshall stop into The George and stay for a pint, or two, or three, or aww just forget it and check in and make a night of it then.

We had great weather and the opportunity to sit outside (they have a nice garden area inside the building with the rooms) was fantastic. Also, the pub has tables by the pond and great to get a drink, we even had dinner, next to the water with the ducks walking among the tables. Rooms are comfortable but not exceptional. Service is friendly. Despite the beautiful grounds, the walking trails near the hotel, including along a channel, are underwhelming. I was also not that impressed with the nearby towns but the RAF Museum, 30 mins away, is worth an afternoon.

A prom in highschool, a wedding last year, and endless dinners and lunches. The staff are always marvellous, and the food is always great. The bar is extremely dark, which is always a huge shock, but particularly on days like Saturday where the sun was so bright! I was feeling a little fragile and not particularly hungry after a breakfast treat in stafford with a wonderful friend, so plumped for something light. I fancied the duck salad, and was told it was off the menu, I said I would leave it, as everything else seemed quite heavy or dairy Laiden. It turned out a couple of minutes later- the only thing they didn't have was the peanuts, due to a severe allergy guest that day (why they didn't say that to begin with, I don't know) but it was wonderful, the dick wasn't too fatty, and fell off the bone wonderfully. Everything intermingled beautifully, giving you a different taste every time you took a bite. I do recommend this place, most certainly- but I will say- do double check fine print if you are having your wedding here! My uncle fell into the pudding trap last summer- so be careful!
