Now that the new owners have taken over, the business is a mess. New owners live out of town. That doesn't help if you need help. The prices increased when the new owners took over, and the drying time was cut in half. The dryers are set low, hence you spend more money to have a properly dried item. That is sneaky. What was once the busiest, cleanest, and most attended laundromat in the city now looks deserted. More often than not, you couldn't get a parking space. In the past, some days you'd have to wait for your turn to do your laundry because the place was always packed. ..now, most machines are available any day, any time. It was convenient for me, however, I made the decision to drive a bit further to another laundromat. Too bad those people are pinching pennies and losing business. It is a potential goldmine...I believe they know very little about customer satisfaction or how to run a business. read more

This was the first time I had used a laundromat outside of Ottawa. The building interior was bright, clean, and well-maintained. So far so good. Until I had finished my laundry - multiple loads - and was transporting baskets of clean and folded sheets, towels, bedspreads, and duvet covers out to my car. I family of three had arrived about an hour before I was finished. Two adults and a teenaged male. The adults, a man and a woman, kept to themselves but the teen boy appeared to be aggressive and was making me uncomfortable. He continuously walked around the inside perimeter of the building, seeking out eye contact with the females there, and slapping his open hand against the walls and the washing machines as he did his strange rounds. He was openly eyeing my jar full of change so I did take that with me and locked it in my car, but out of necessity I had to make several trips with folded laundry to my SUV parked outside. After my second trip - I still had at least two more to do - I returned inside to find them gone, along with a brand new summer-weight brand-name bedspread I had just purchased the week before, a new Queen-sized winter-weight duvet, three winter comforters, all "designer" brands, and a large stack of designer brand towels purchased at Winners in April with a gift certificate my sister gave me for my birthday. So be on the lookout. I will not be returning to this laundromat, and I have reported the thefts to Guelph police. I have been advised the chance of having my belongings returned to me at this point is slim. Both my husband and I have been quite ill since suffering the effects of COVID or the side-effects of the hastily-approved vaccinations, according to the specialist who has been treating me, anyway. It will likely be another year at least before I can return to my job in a profession that requires 2 graduate degrees and professional licensing to hold. I cannot afford to replace any of these items until I am back at work, and as you may have guessed by my use of a laundromat I cannot afford to replace my elderly and broken-down appliances either. But I do not hold any hate in my heart for these thieves - only compassion for people who have found it necessary - but I hope not easy - to take what they want from a fellow human being, without knowing what my own circumstances were. Someone stole my clothes from here. The store didn't pick up multiple phone calls from me until it was too late to review the security footage as it had been erased. I'm disabled and only do my laundry when a family member can drive me to the laundromat, so I couldn't physically go back to check. They blamed me for them not answering the phone and said I should've called their other number, i.e., a number that *isn't* listed on Google and is only on a piece of paper in the store. I obviously didn't know was an option. They also blamed them not picking up on the fact that they use cell phones (and they don't have voicemails). They're too cheap to pay for a landline or a voicemail which prevents customers from contacting them when issues arise. The owner got into a screaming match with me over the phone because I simply asked him to double check that the bag of clothes he had didn't have any of my clothes in it. He said the bag was too old to have my clothes in it, and I repeatedly said I simply wanted him to check for my peace of mind. He vehemently refused to do this simple task. The old owners were competent and professional. The new owners--a husband and wife duo who immediately raised the prices when they bought the business--are extremely unprofessional and argued with me throughout the multiple interactions we had. The husband invited me to come look at the clothing on a Monday even though neither of them are in on Sundays or Mondays and I already disclosed my disability, and when I questioned that, he hung up on me. I never received a genuine apology from either of them or any expression of sympathy that someone stole my clothing, including clothing I've had for years, gifted clothing, and some of the few articles of clothing that still fit me well following drastic weight loss from extreme stress. Even on the day I did my laundry, the husband ignored me requesting assistance about a machine that ate my money for almost five minutes so he could use his phone to tape the security video of a different incident. I'm shocked at how much this business has gone down the drain. I've been going here for 2 years and will never return. I advise other people to not come here either. read more

Today I experienced something very unpleasant at this laundromat. My dryer had broke and I had wet laundry needing drying. I knew I needed to go to a laundromat, so I took my two boys in the car (single mom) and drove to the closest one, which was Golden Coin. When I arrived, there was absolutely no one inside, no machines running. Thought I was pretty lucky. My boys and I put the clothes in the dryers and then were getting change, when a woman entered. I said hello and said how quiet it was. She commented it hadn't been earlier. She noticed my empty bags and asked if I had washed the clothes there. I said no, that my dryer had broke. She then pointed to a sign in the laundromat and said that they had a rule that if the clothes weren't washed there, you couldn't use the dryer. I said that I was sorry, that I didn't know that. I then commented that there was no one there, and that I'd like to dry my clothes and if needed, would wash them and dry them there next time. I asked her if she could make an exception to the rule this time. She said that she'd have to check with her boss. She then got on the phone, (was speaking mandarin I believe) and said very aggressively "My boss says no!" I then asked if she could tell him/her that there was no one there, so they'd only be making money and that I was in a real bind". She then said "You must respect the rules. You don't respect the rules! You must leave!" As I was taking my laundry out of the dryer to leave, she then looked at my 13 and 8 year-olds at the change machine and angrily told them to stop using it. I told her to not speak to my kids and that we were leaving. She then removed her face mask and started yelling at me, saying that I was wrong in speaking to her as I did in front of my children. (It was at this point that I felt perhaps she wasn't very unstable.) I told her that she had no compassion and was very unkind... that she was tossing me out when there was no reason to given there were zero customers. Next, the owner (I think) came in and belittled me as well. Next, the staff member told me to "hurry up and get out!" I told her I was going as fast as I could and that she could take the clothes out too if she likes to help hurry me along. She then said, and I have this recorded "I would like to throw your clothes at you!" I told her to go ahead and that I would call the police if she did. Then a customer came in and both the staff member and the owner went to her and started talking about what was happening, saying bad things about me and "She broke the rule! She broke the rule!" During this whole time, my 8 year old was quivering and about to cry. I had to repeatedly tell him that 'it was okay' as I was hurriedly trying to leave. I am an ex-teacher and now a school principal. I completely understand rules and why they are important. However, given the situation today, this laundromat had a few choices, on either extreme: to allow me to dry my clothes given my situation and pay them $20 with zero customers or to point to a sign, yell at me and admonish me in front of my children. They chose the latter. I went literally a few blocks down the street and dried my laundry elsewhere, where there is no such rule and the gentleman working there was very kind. In these challenging times of COVID-19, where humanity and kindness is so very important, I hope if you read this you will not reward this laundromat with your business as they exhibit the opposite of these qualities. Golden Coin laundromat is always clean,the machines are clean inside and out and very easy to use. The cost is very comparable, but the huge difference is the proprietress and her husband. They both go out of their way to assist you in any way possible. At any given time the machines are being maintained, filters cleaned, drums cleaned and that certainly makes me feel satisfied. I usually go to this laundromat as it is the closest to me but my experience yesterday was not a very pleasant one. I came by shortly before 7pm and there was a man cleaning the place and I noticed him looking at my laundry basket which I found very strange. I went and got change as I needed to do 3 loads of separate laundry. I then proceeded to load my laundry in the wash. When I was loading my second laundry he stopped me to tell me to use the bigger washing machine. First of all, I needed 3 separate washing machine for a reason" I don't want all my laundry together"duh! The second load was 2 small sheets and he proceeded to lecture me that if the machine stopped I would lose my money. I wanted to say, not your money, don't worry about it but I tried to be patient and explained instead that I needed my laundry separate. Not sure if there's something off about this man. I was thinking, do they want business? Do they normally harass customers this way or probably there is something wrong with him that day coz its not like I was doing my laundry late since they're open until 9pm that day. I am not really sure what to say about that experience as it is the first time that happened and I have been going there for years. read more
