Yeah, the check-in front staff were pretty snappy (especially at those who arrived 30 min earlier than their appointment time), but they're just trying to make the line to enter the waiting area flow as efficiently as possible and making sure you're at the right place as some DMV services are now available only online. Just follow all of the directions from the Real ID application online (including bringing the required documents; they still inspect them even if pre-approved online!!) and you'll be well-prepared for the in-office DMV part. :)

Called and they said they did receive payment but they needed my insurance info but they had that for 9 months. Went in again and they requested an extra two months of bank statements printed out. It took 7 months several calls, a few chats with agents online, many emails and 4 visits to the dmv to get my tags even with everything screen shot, every receipt and documents. Save everything and don't let them make you double pay!

Finally talked with a manager who said he would investigate. He admitted that there is a chronic problem of lost license plates due to clerical errors. Two weeks later: The plates arrive. The package was postmarked 3 days previously. So the plates sat in some twilight zone box on some one's desk for 17 months. I'm a pro public service endorser, and was a CA state employee for 17 years. But this agency needs an entire overhaul. Replacement of upper management and all poorly performing employees is warranted. The given the exorbitant DMV fees and our high CA taxes we deserve better service.

I have been waiting 6 months to receive my registration that was updated online, only to learn it was mailed to an old address no longer in use. It is easy to verify that my address was correct and up to date at the time of the renewal, because I received the title to my car in the mail at the current address, with the correct address printed on it 2 months before I sent in the registration renewal. Both agents I spoke with essentially agreed the registration went to the wrong address, but neither could offer me a waiver of fees for the "replacement" registration that I never received in the first place. Obviously this is only the latest in a string of incidents just like this one - just read the other reviews here and it's apparent what a regular occurrence this is.
