I gave Teresa a budget and asked her to use her discretion on what else to add. Teresa made some other wonderful suggestions to make it more special. The addition of a Red Heart Helium balloon, Big Gold Helium balloons with a 4 0, a dozen candles, rose petals around the roses and Roses on our pillows, and a dozen of my wife's and my favorite cookies. Otherwise you can easily find a seat in the store or outside and the bathrooms are never crowded and there is a ton of space to change if you just drove in. The lunch sandwiches are top notch. the Cuban is especially good. they even make a killer grilled vegetarian sandwich with avocado based off The Reut. You can also grab any number of amazing beers or a full bottle of red, white or La Marca to split with your friends. The pepperoni pizza is also surprisingly good and usually ready right away. If you need anything else, this place is a general store and has a good assortment of grocery items (including the makings for s'mores, which you can roast over the firepit on the deck of the main lodge area if no one stops you). Service was friendly and the food was excellent. The Reuben is a thick hot pastrami on grilled Jewish rye with Swiss, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island. The Tahoe Blue is a hot albacore tuna melt on grilled sourdough with cheddar. Both came with a side as advertised, salad on my plate and fries on my wife's with Ranch dressing to dip the fries in. Portions were generous and the bread is amazing and baked in-house daily. The bakery case is one of many reasons to come back....! Coffee cakes, croissants, cookies, fruit tarts, and packaged loaves were all out and labeled. We bought croissants and cookies to take back to camp and they traveled (and ate) well....! The one real drawback is the building. The bakery and restaurant share a door with C.O.D. Casino next door. When that door opens, cigarette smoke comes into the dining and bakery area. The restroom is also on the casino side. That does not change the quality of the sandwiches or pastry, but it is noticeable and it is worth knowing before you sit down, especially if you are sensitive to smoke or bringing food out for a trip. Note: they do have outdoor seating. We love having this place close to home and will use it again for lunch and bakery takeout for sure! I went there for breakfast, as Markleeville's cafe was closed. I got a bagel and a decaf vanilla latte. The bagel was a standard bagel. The latte was really good. The coffee they use had a delicious flavor to it. There are some tables inside where you can sit. Locals come in to play the lotto here. It's a cool spot to check out. They have sandwiches that look good and soup of the day. Parking is right out front.
