I was referred to dr. Chao Sun, by workers compensation, after I had requested to see a 2nd doctor, because worker's compensation isn't following the first doctors Status Report. I had one of the worst experiences ever visiting this doctor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DOCTOR OFFICE! I shared with him my reasons for requesting a new doctor At the beginning of my appointment, and he mumbled out that he didn't think he would be able to help me. I didn't understand so I continued with the appointment. This so called doctor taunted me, he was disrespectful, and he left the exam door open for my entire appointment, and other patients heard EVERYTHING! He had the audacity to tell me that he didn't believe that I hit my head when I fell at work, he said that it was very unlikely, so he was basically calling me a liar. Even though I've previously been diagnosed with a concussion, and I have witnesses that saw me fall pretty hard at work... despite a previous diagnosis, he said that I didn't have a concussion because I hadn't Loss consciousness or because my head wasn't busted open (my daughter is a cheerleader--we see concussions occur all the time without broken skin). He then asked me to explain how my injury was affecting me and what do I consider to be proper medical care? As I was explaining to him, he said that I was talking "fancy", but that doesn't mean anything. So it seemed that he was biased towards proper English language. He's very argumentative and he speaks broken English, yet I don't believe he comprehends it very well, and this is why he accused me of speaking "fancy ". This doctor then started to discuss politics with me... he started saying that America was a free country, and I'm not sure why he was saying that to me, as this country has nothing to do with my injury. I felt that his evaluation of my health and injury was based on his political views and opinion of me, instead of the actual injury. He kept saying that we're all entitled to our opinions here--he repeatedly said this to me. This so called doctor began to assess my injury as if we were in court. At the end of my appointment he said that he couldn't make a decision and that I needed to be referred to pain management. His conduct caused me to feel very offended--I'm appalled in the way that this man spoke to me, and for him to refer to my usage of proper English as "fancy" seemed to be a racist remark to me. I'm left wondering... how am I supposed to speak? Or how did he expect me to speak? I'm not Chinese like him--as he realizes that this is a free country, I'd think that he'd be aware that this is also a multi ethnic country, and that many of us have different dialects. read more

Extremely happy with Dr. Sun. I have used Express urgent care several times. Usually on a weekend or if my general practitioner has no opening. Efficient, courteous and very fast. I have never had to wait. Unlike many urgent care that are staffed by nurse practitioners, Dr. Sun can and will prescribe antibiotics if necessary. Dr. Chao Sun is not a very good doctor, from my experience, and I will not be seeing him again. Here's why: I originally chose a different doctor that was part of this practice. Let's call him Dr. P. Little did I know, Dr. P had retired. When I asked for him, the receptionist told me "He's out. You're going to see Dr. Sun today." Being an idiot and not asking questions, I went with it. Big, big mistake. Instead of telling me he was no longer practicing there, they just palmed me off to Dr. Sun to get my business. I had a cyst on my back that became infected and formed an abscess and swelled up. Instead of lancing and draining it (which he should've done, as I found out from Dr. P later on), he prescribed me antibiotics. No effect. When I finished the antibiotics, I went back to follow-up. He then prescribed a second round of the same antibiotics. He finally referred me to a specialized center, but by that time, the infection in my abscess had grown and I had developed a fever. Turns out, my blood sugar was also sky high. Dr. Sun never thought to check me for this. My mother happens to know Dr P, on the other hand. She spoke to him and he hadn't even seen me and assumed I might be diabetic. Turns out he was right. That's an experienced doctor that knows what he's doing. I wish he were available for me to see him as a patient. While Dr. Sun's reception staff are nice and friendly, he is incompetent and seems to only want to do the bare minimum. He appears to have a 'hands-off" approach to medicine. Dr. P ended up confirming my impression of Dr. Sun. It wasn't what he said, but what he DIDN'T say. If you are reading these reviews and considering going with Express Medicine Urgent Care, please do yourself a favor and select someone else. A GRIEVANCE/COMPLAINT has been filed AGAINST Dr. Chao Sun with the CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF WORKERS COMPENSATION. DR. CHAO SUN was selected as a QME. DR. CHAO SUN will spend approximately 1 minute "evaluating" your injury yet bill your employer for 3 hours. That's their problem. I walked out after 20 minutes because he was pressuring me to ask the company for compensation. DR. CHAO SUN will ask you if you WANT MONEY/COMPENSATION from your company for your injury. "You want $1000?" DR. CHAO SUN wants you to share ANY MONEY YOU GET FROM THE COMPANY WITH HIM. He has no ethnics or integrity. If you turn him down because you have higher values, he will write in your evaluation that YOU were seeking more compensation. I should have read the reviews before seeing DR. As for as the immigration is concerned ,they charge around 612$ per person . This is very high compared to other providers where they charge around 175$. Since they dont mention that if you have insurance you can complete all the tests/vaccines or antibody tests by requesting your PCP. This might be good for people who dont have insurance. I am a Chinese from China. I can tell Doctor sun is not a typical nowadays Chinese. His moral level is like the worst dealer in this country. In his eye, money money money. He abuses America's law system for Money without any ethic Anyway. I went to the milpitas office. Doctor sun is there with a patient. No front desk. While I was waiting, I can hear every single word he is talking with that patient because they have the room door open. It is so unprofessional. I now know the secrete of that patient even though I do not know her name. If I am not for immigration health check and rushly pick his office on website, I can not think about any reason people come to him for seeking doctors. In China, doctor like him is described as a江湖庸医 Most important problem is his worst service for immigration health check. He can never explain things clearly so that he can confuse u and charge u. I realized at the moment and took back all the document. He charged so much more than other doctors. I asked for refund of $160 because he did not do anything other than explain me confused process. It's been a very long time since I've seen a doctor / visited a Doctor's office that I left actually pleased and excited about the service I'd received. I had recently switched from my medical plan to my husband's, and got sick with a terrible virus/flu right before Christmas. [I REFUSE to go to Livermore Urgent Care (Valley Care) after numerous visits in the past for myself and my daughter - always double-charged, always horrible service in every way possible.] Dr. Sun (who is very pleasant, knowledgeable and lacks the obscene ego you often see from other doctors) was able to see me the same day and scheduled appropriately such that there was no long wait, no rushing through the exam/discussion, and I felt he had taken my illness seriously and evaluated thoroughly. The office was very clean, very professional, great location near the mall/580/680, and if needed, a Quest lab next door. What was also incredible is that they (purposely) charged me the co-pay for in network primary doctor (cheapest copay option). They easily could have charged me the higher co-pay, but did not. Sadly I've not been to a doctor's office in the last decade in which they didn't charge you as much as they could for your visit. I was shocked. What's also great is that this is more than urgent care (which by itself is awesome for same day visits when you are sick and avoiding an ER). Dr. Sun can be your normal primary care doctor as well. His office also offers eastern medicine/health such as Acupuncture (Dr. Han) and Physical Therapy (I forget her name but I have now gone for back issues and she is amazing and amazingly strong. She applies a combination of disciplines after a thorough consultation). They are bi-lingual (English, Mandarin Chinese) and just all very friendly and professional. I haven't felt so excited and connected with a doctor's office in a long time, and will be having my daughter and husband come here when they need to as well. read more

Worst experience at doctors office ever! They discriminate and made me wait over 2 hours over a minor clerical error that was their fault, and when I finally could see the DOCTOR..he stepped out for a 45 min lunch! After all that, he DID not help at all and told me I have NO OPTIONS. When I went for a second opinion I was given 3 OPTIONS. Then when I asked the ladies in the front to fax my referral to another doctor..they said they're too busy! Worst doc experience I've ever had in this country for the last twenty years. The doc cares more about how much money he gets paid from the insurance than patient care. My mom is over 80 and does not speak English. I take her in every time to translate. Dr. Sun does not bother to explain his diagnosis even if he has one and rushes her out. When my mom went in for chest pain, he did nothing and sent us away to ER because he does not get enough payment from her insurance. She went in for a lump pain on her breast for two months, he wrote a mammo order just for screening but refused to have a diagnostic mammo for a symptom he himself described on the order. The imagining center called repeatedly to request for diagnostic code but got declined. The technician spoke to him on phone for more than 20 min to explain the medical necessity of a more thorough diagnostic mammo than a simple screening mammo, he continued to decline because of he reimbursement concern from the insurance company. When a doctor's service is based on monetary motive other than medical care , how much can you trust him to take medical care of you when you need it. I don't even want to echo the unprofessionalism of the office staff! We are looking for other doctors as I am typing now. The convenience of the location or flexible weekend hours is totally not worth putting your health at risk in this unprofessional and unethical doc's hands!! Basic Details: This facility is by appointment only. They speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese fluently. My insurance is Anthem Blue Shield and it was no problem. They are not part of Kaiser but you can have your expensive imaging done at Kaiser and then visit Dr. Sun out-of-pocket. Their out-of-pocket rates are very affordable and there is an excellent, affordable preventive care membership for $66/month (at the time of this writing) which includes two consultations, two on-site minor surgeries/injury/fracture, joint/IV injections, X-ray/EKG/Lab tests, or some prescription coverages, etc. Quality: I highly recommend the entire staff. They do not focus purely on symptom alleviation through the application of prescription drugs. They do practice a combination of preventive and urgent care and advocate the use of physical therapy. I found the staff to be entirely professional, skilled, and friendly. The facility was clean and well-kept. My visit: I went to Dr. Sun for lower back pain which had become more severe after several months. He gave me a prescription for a mild muscle relaxant, massage therapy and acupuncture on-site. Mr. Tony gave me a massage which alleviated most of the pain that I've been feeling for six months. He was extremely skilled and professional. Dr. Han gave me acupuncture the next day and his manner was the same- professional, courteous and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this facility. read more

This place is located across Stoneridge mall. I had my appointment at 2 but since I was early, I just walked around the mall did some window shopping while waiting. The staffs are friendly and are very empathetic. I got my vaccines, blood works and check-up in minutes. The Quest Diagnostic Lab is right next door so I got everything done same day and really fast. I've been to other urgent care clinics that have labs in difference locations, so I never completed my lab works because I did not have time schedule appointments and take some time off. As of today, I got all my vaccines and is STD free. lol. read more

But rushed my diagnosis and only prescribed moderate pain killers. Did not clearly articulate what my diagnosis was. Seemed in a hurry. Billing Department: They told me to pay full even though i had insurance that was in-network for them. This review was written after a month and yet i dont see the charges on my medical plan. Not sure if they even bothered to bill my insurance. Overall, ok experience. Been with this place since 2016 and so far so good. My refills are always prescribed on time. The only issues I have sometimes is getting a refill early but sometimes that cannot go due to insurance. But other than, the staff is pretty nice and Dr Sun is cool. read more

They charge you more than $600 for same tests while other clinics only charge $250! And they would find all excuses to explain the overcharge, but don't believe them! Please call other clinics to get a quote and you will know they are overcharging you! If you have already went to this place and got charged more than $600 please call your credit card company to dispute the overcharge!! Credit card company would issue full amount refund for over charge services! and then please call USCIS report line:18003239603, choose 1 for English and choose 0 to talk to operator. They answer the phone call within 10 seconds! Let them know you want to report this clinic overcharge you and request to remove this urgent care from the USCIS "Find a Doctor" website to prevent more immigrants from being overcharged by this urgent care! If you consider this doctor for check-up for immigration purposes, please don't. He does not understand the vaccination, any time I went to his office, he decided to charge me a different amount of money. Although I had all necessary vaccination, he insisted he has to give me a new one. On my next visit he did not remember what kind of vaccination he gave me last time and wanted to do it again. He never had the receipt ready for me as he claimed the nurse is not there anymore and that is why he will send it by mail. He never did. Also, he does not even take the blood for blood test. He sends you to the clinic that he is next to his office, where they charge additional $42 for 5 minutes. There are plenty of other doctors in the area so although the basic charge is higher there, you should definitely use someone else. There was no review on yelp before I went. This doctor purposely writes prescriptions without refills, so that you need to go back for a follow up to charge your insurance again. My mom ran out of her prescription and her insurance terminated, so I asked if we could have the prescription refill while we wait for the insurance to reactivate. Guess what, the front desk lady tells me that they cannot write the refill because she has no insurance. I asked her if it was ethical to do that as my mom needs her meds. She said she doesn't understand the word ethical and yells over the phone that my mom does not have insurance. I asked her to answer my question about if my mom had a refill on her prescription when the doctor wrote it the first time and she wouldn't answer and told me the same thing - about my mom not having insurance. We were both yelling and talking over each other. I loudly ask her to answer my question and she told me the same thing without answering. HOW UNETHICAL?! I am ashamed of Chinese people. I'm Chinese myself. The only reasons why we went there were because they accept Medi cal, speaks Chinese, and close to home. After this experience, I vow to never go to a doctor from China. He wasn't attentive and rushed my mom during appointments. He would also have my mom get her blood work and then ask her to go back to just to go over the results which meant charging the insurance again. read more

I do not recommend you waste your time here as they are incompetent. They told me I was having an anxiety attack and there was nothing they could do for me and to call my regular doctor. I had a knot in my chest and could barely breathe and swallow. Made me feel that it was my fault and problem. I got a hold of my regular doctor two days later as he was out of town. He called in a prescription and I had relief within 15 minutes. My doctor was in awe that they did nothing for me. I was in distress for two and a half days and they didn't help me at all. I usually don't give a review, but this time....Don't waste your time here, simply just not worth your time and money!! I went there in April/May for a sciatica pain. I know it's caused by either lumber spine or piriformis muscle. After several visits and physical examinations, all I had is pain killer, muscle relaxer, and Dr. Sun ensured me that there's no problem in my lumber spine and MRI is not necessary. He didn't give me a clear diagnose ever, and he said I should go for activities to uncover the reason behind my pain. Great. And then I went to emergency room after a muscle spasm in my hip, in June. This is the worst situation I've ever had in my life, can't even turn my self a little bit in bed! After that, he continued to give me Naproxen for anti-inflammation. And he still thought I was having a muscle problem. In August, there's still no substantial recovery. I strongly urged Dr. Sun to order my MRI scan, just to rule out my spine problem. Yes, it's ME who ordered the MRI scan. And great again, the MRI showed I have a disk herniation in L5-S1. I'm still suffering from sciatica now. Thanks to Dr. Sun for delaying my treatment and worsen my problem? Haha I'm now seeing doctors at Stanford Medical Center, and I hate myself not switching healthcare providers early. read more

From my experience, contacting them via phone has been the best way to reach them and set up an appointment.The reception lady is cordial and puts in effort to get to know me on a personal level. Dr. Sun, the physician of this clinic, has been successful in fulfilling my needs (TB testing, physical examination) in a timely manner making it extremely convenient for me to continue to see him for certain health check up requirements that I must meet for school. One star is too much for this place. Where do I start, dr wants to get you out of his face really fast. He doesn't want to understand your problems nor he wants to help you, all he will tell you is here is medications now have a good day. Nurse is super rude and will not call the pharmacy to get your medicine changed, they also will blame the pharmacy not doing the right procedure on their end . I basically have to do the office work for her and make the phones calls myself . It's not my job to fix the problem to why the pharmacy is not receiving the proper information for the medication. I have children and I am very busy , it was frustrating to have to do all the work for the front office . The lady in the front office is the worst person of them all, poor English, no sympathy, no customer service, and if you ask her to fill a paperwork for your employee she will tell you she doesn't know how. Went in for a clear case of sinus infection, brought on by the flu. Paid too much for what I already knew I needed (antibiotics). Of course, he tried to talk me into additional tests, which he later admitted were unnecessary. That is standard procedure, but still reprehensible. My biggest complaint is that he offered a cough medicine based on codeine, which I told him doesn't work for me. I knew from past experience that the only thing which stops a cough is hydrocodone. He just laughed and gave me the codeine, and 3 days later I am still coughing my guts out. I understand that some people abuse hydrocodone, but that doesn't mean it should never be prescribed, even when indicated! I haven't used it for 3 years, when I had tooth pain. I guess he just assumed I wanted to get high, which is insulting and unprofessional. This is an example of pure gutlessness, a refusal to do the right thing because of political pressure. A request to phone in the correct prescription was of course denied, unless I wanted to come in (and be charged) again, as though my diagnosis had changed over the weekend. I would have paid less and done better to find a regular physician, but I was so miserable with the flu that I took the quickest route. The only good thing about it was it was quick - there wasn't another soul in the office (wonder why). My advice - get on the phone and ask for rates, then find a regular MD. Came in for a very minor procedure, that can be done by nurses (I have had this same procedure done for FREE by a nurse and by a doctor before as well). The front desk lady asks for my insurance, which is a good plan by Blue Cross Anthem, and tells me that I only needed to pay them around $20~ copay. I paid that and got my procedure done, no problem. HOWEVER, a few weeks later I was billed $70~ more for the same procedure that my insurance covers for and I have paid the copay for. In the bill, procedure title was in numbers (i.e very ambiguous) and does not clearly describe nor represent the ONE simple procedure that the doctor performed on that day. Called to ask about the bill, but did not get a straight answer. I paid the bill anyways and the extra amount does not mean much to me. But, I definitely will not be going back to this place. read more

I've had very positive experiences with Dr. Sun so far. I rarely have to wait, and they've scheduled same day appointments more than once when I needed to see him fast. On my first visit, he caught the misdiagnosis of a previous doctor, who said I was having an allergic skin reaction when I actually had Shingles... So score one for Dr. Sun there. He's obviously a pretty bright guy. So far, he's helped me get past those Shingles, get over an ear infection, lower my cholesterol over fifty points, and will soon be trying to mitigate my pain from foraminal stenosis using acupuncture. The waiting area is quiet and pleasant, and the staff is very friendly and, as I said, extremely flexible and helpful with scheduling. My experience with this clinic has been far better and more pleasant than most other clinics I've been to. read more

I had a great experience at Express Medicine Urgent Care in Pleasanton. Dr. Sun is very caring and I can tell he truly wants to help people. They have a special program for people with no insurance that anybody can sign up for whether you have insurance or not or even pre-existing conditions. I do not have insurance and I needed to see someone because of my hypertension. I was seen immediately with no waiting. When the benefits of their group program were mentioned to me, I immediately wanted to sign up. He recommended that I have a blood panel since I hadn't had one in several years (included in the program I signed up for, which comes out to $66 per month). I had to come back on a Monday morning as I had already eaten that day and it was supposed to be a fasting panel. The phlebotomist was great. I barely felt the needle. I think she is there only on Mondays, which may be why the other poster had to go to the clinic next door for her work, but my experience was different and I have no complaints whatsoever. Two days later I was called in to receive the results of the blood test, this office visit was again covered under their program. He took his time and explained the results to me, carefully going over areas of concern. Blood tests without insurance alone can be over $800, but this was included in the program. In addition to 'Western Medicine", they also offer Chinese medicine, which is a big plus. One huge benefit of their program is that If you are on medications for chronic conditions, such as High Blood pressure, up to 3 medications which you may need to take every day, are included in their plan, for an entire year. Their office is located conveniently close to where I work. Clearly I had a much different experience than the other poster. I hope more people will try this facility and Dr. Sun. I liked him and his office very much. The office is very nice, clean and organized. His staff is friendly and helpful. Please visit and make up your own mind.
