I called to setup an appointment with Dr. Gracer as a new patient. Lead time was two months, so two months later, in March, I showed up for my appointment. To my surprise I found out that I was not in their schedule for that day. I insisted that I was given an appointment and provided the information I was given. The receptionist looked at her computer and told me that I was scheduled for May instead, which coincidentally is also 2 months from the day I showed up. She added that my previous appointment had been canceled. Well.. if it is true they did not even bother to let me know about it. Anyway I had a few days of prescription medication left. I told her to forget about the May appointment and decided to give telemedicine a try. I went online and created an account with Teladoc. Provided all my information, got an online appointment AND a prescription refill the same day!! As far as choosing a primary doctor I will find a place where they take appointments a little bit more seriously. read more

This review is for Dr. Gracer's office staff, who are are not the most welcoming folks to say the least. They rushed us through the process when we went. They hardly acknowledged us when we had questions. They were not helpful at all when we requested to reach Dr. Gracer for phone consultations when my son was in the hospital. We went with him based on good recommendations from other parents and extremely unhappy with the decision. So it is a shame that his front office personnel is the reasons Dr. Gracer would be losing patients. read more

I actually found Dr. Erik Gracer through Yelp and after reading the reviews and seeing that he was close to my home it was an easy decision to make an appointment. I typically visit the doctor only when I need to and my last check up / physical was about 3 years ago. So I figured I was due for a check up and blood exam to make sure things looked good. Dr. Gracer's office is easy to locate with plenty of parking and the receptionist and his medical assistants were all very polite and helpful. The initial new patient paperwork was much easier than I recall in previous scenarios and I only waited about 10 minutes before I was seen. Dr. Gracer was a total pro. Since it has been a few years since I saw a doctor, I had a list of questions and he was very thorough in his review and feedback. Dr. Gracer made me feel totally comfortable and he spent plenty of time answering all of my questions which was rare with my past doctors who were always in a hurry. I highly recommend Dr. Gracer and this was by far the best experience I've had on a doctor visit! I will be going back next year for my check up! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Gracer's for about 10 years now and couldn't be more happy with the level of care and attention I have received. I have had to be seen at his office for everything from scrapes, to bad knees, allergies, asthma, and the usual colds and the flu over the years. Every visit is great because he remembers me, asks the right questions, and honestly provides his advice. He is very straight forward with his thoughts, his advice, and his suggested treatment options. And I honestly feel that Dr. Gracer goes out of his way to be sure he understands what is ailing you and what can be done to make you better. The office staff is also very friendly and responsive to phone calls and questions. I can always find an appointment time if I need one and I never feel rushed or hurried with the staff or with Dr. Gracer. He and his office staff have also been really great in working with my insurance provider (which can be quite difficult) to make sure my prescriptions are managed and charged correctly. If you are looking for a very competent, friendly, and qualified family practice doctor, I couldn't recommend anyone more. read more

The Doctor and his staff are modern in their techniques, but "old-fashioned" regarding their focus on listening, being caring, kind and compassionate - difficult attributes to find in today's medical environment. Recently I even traveled to the world famous Mayo Clinic for some fancy procedures and evaluation of a very rare condition from which I suffer. But I count myself equally blessed to be under the the care of Dr Gracer and choose to keep him as my primary care physician. I had a horrible experience here a while back. I set an appointment, showed up, and waited 40 minutes to be seen... Not a big deal, really. Waiting is part of the process we have to accept sometimes. I was a little surprised that I didn't have to fill out any medical history paperwork... Seriously, even message therapists insist on as much. When I was brought in I waited another 10 minutes or so before anyone came in, and it was a PA. The wait was beginning to annoy me, but the PA was really great. She asked many questions about my problem (chronic migraines), how long I had been getting them, triggers, family history, my scoliosis, and concerns I had about damaging my liver with the meds I was currently being prescribed,etc.. We talked for about 15 minutes, and I felt like this was going in a promising direction. Then Dr. Gracer showed up. He made it very clear he wanted to get me out of there as quickly as possible. He did not bother to consult with the PA, or even read the notes she had taken. He just brushed off all of my concerns and gave me a prescription for 5x the maximum recommended dose of Aleve with a Prilosec kicker, because that much Aleve wrecks your stomache (even with the kicker as it turns out). When I pushed him to address the triggers, like yoga, and stretching, he impatiently said, "If yoga gives you migraines, don't do yoga". I have since found a doctor that is worth her salt. She ordered x-rays and ultrasounds, to make sure there wasn't a serious underlying problem. Then sent me to a migraine specialist, and a physical therapist. The problem is that the top third of my spine was completely out of alignment because it was overcompensating for my scoliosis. If left untreated it would have become progressively worse, and it would have developed into debilitating Kyphosis... To the point that I would have looked like a hunch back. Something he could have easily figured out if he had treated me like a person instead of a time-slot. read more

When I couldn't get in to see my regular doctor for SEVERE back pain and numbness in my foot, I called Dr. Gracer's office and they were able to get me in same day. As he was the second doctor I saw regarding this condition, I was thrilled that he said it WAS a pinched nerve, gave me prescriptions for a steroid and a pain killer, and sent me on my way. I, like many, had been a longtime patient of Erik's father, Richard. I switched over to Erik many years ago and have been very satisfied ever since. Erik has a very attentive and easy-going manner and never rushes me through any appointments. I have always felt very comfortable with him. One issue I had a year ago deserves comment. I was feeling quite ill one day and was experiencing an unusual pain. As always, Erik listened carefully and examined me. Several appointments and many tests with other specialists later, I was diagnosed with a very serious and rare (but not life-threatening) condition. I credit Erik with his astute observations and for establishing a clear path toward my diagnosis. He really impressed me with his skills and I called him once I was on the path toward recovery to tell him so. He's really a great doctor so if you're shopping around for a doc that you can like and trust and who has the skills to help keep you healthy, do not hesitate to call on Erik. read more

AVOID at all costs! The front office here is absolutely THE worst, I'm not sure what they're paid to do. I called in for a refill for prescription and was told it's be done by the doctor filling in for Dr. Gracer. Not to my surprise it wasn't done. The doctor filling in didn't even see the request. This has happened more than twice. When I brought it to Gina/Gena however you spell her name she made some sorry excuse about needing 24-72 hour notice for prescriptions...are you serious?!! What happened if it's an urgent prescription? When I informed her this wasn't the first time this had happened she completely ignored my statement and was like "yea so the other doctor in our other office will do it." If you don't want to deal with people you shouldn't be working in a client facing industry. Clean up your attitude and take accountability for your incompetence. Don't waste your time with this office. There are better doctors that have a more organized office than this one in our area. They have lost my business. read more

I've been going to Dr. Gracer for a couple years now. When I recently spent 10 days in the hospital, he was the first doctor to see me on the first day and the only one to see me every day on a regular schedule. It was comforting for me and my family knowing he would be there to check on me. I agree with comments made by Bonnie L (4/27/2016) that Dr. Gracer is easy-going, makes you feel comfortable, is nonjudgmental, and explains things in basic terms. Before I select a health plan, I verify he is 'in network'. On one routine physical, he recommended I get an ECG even though I felt fine. Turns out I have a severe aortic valve insufficiency condition. Had heart surgery in August 2015 to repair valve and feeling fine after a few months. read more

What a run around!!! 1. office is only nice when you don't ask them to do anything. 2. prescription refills are OVER a week late on every refill because the office has issues sending paperwork to pharmacies??? I call and call to see why my regular prescription isn't in yet, and it's always because the office never sent it!! 3. I have cysts he "doesn't want to worry about" but they cause me great pain... why cant he help the problem instead of just prescribing more pain reliever and band-aides to relieve pressure... nice care dr... 4. my case is workers comp and they act like they have never heard of it before. I'm getting billed and they wont listen! 5 Shoulder injury, he never looked at me to see where I was injured... he just pencil pushes and refers and makes you see him a crap ton just to get a regular prescription refilled. I've explained to the office I don't have a lot of income, and it felt like they said "why are you here" seems like they forgot how to help people. I pay all my bills, but I may not be able to put food on my plate if they charge me for things that should be workers comp!!! I'm very upset with this Dr because I've given him 2 yrs of my time and I come out penniless and NOT any better (injury). ****Don't call this office and leave a message, they don't return calls for days!!! read more

Now with this new staff I'm put on hold forever my medication refill request takes forever, and they know nothing about working in a doctor's office. I'm very disappointed and will be changing ASAP. I was a patient of Dr. Erik's father, Dr. Richard Gracer. When Dr. Richard stopped taking my insurance, I switched over to Dr. Erik......It was the best move I could have made! Dr. Erik is the most caring, considerate, polite dr. that I've ever seen. He makes me feel like he's glad I came in......in other words, my problem is legitimate, not in my head. I have NEVER felt rushed when talking with Dr. Erik. He makes me feel that he is truly listening to, and digesting, all of the information I give him. He always explains WHY he is sending me for a test, giving me a Rx, etc. And, he ALWAYS has a "Plan B". If this doesn't work, then we'll try that........or.........Let's try this before going to that. Recently, I went in for severely swollen feet & ankles during a heat spell, but I KNEW the heat wasn't the source of my swelling. To make a long story short, I ended up being severely anemic. Through a series of tests, it was determined that my internal bleeding was gynocological. Dr. Erik personally called a GI dr. & my OB-GYN. Within a few days I was receiving iron infusions, & within a few weeks I had a hysterectomy. For the first time in a loooong time, I feel so much better! Granted, this wasn't a catostrophic illness, but the quickness w/which Dr. Erik responded and followed through, makes me feel very confident in his care should something more severe arise. I do want to note that Dr. Erik has a very calm, low-key personality, But this should never be misconstrued as being inattentive. Clearly, as seen through my experience, Dr. Gracer can "turn up the gears" when neccessary. Dr. Erik's calm, caring nature and excellent medical skills are truly a gift to his patients! read more

I met Dr. Gracer about 15 years ago in San Ramon where he shared a practice with his father, Dr. Richard Gracer. His father had been immensely helpful to me in minimizing the symptoms of CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). I continued with Dr. Erik when his father decided to practice only out of their Lafayette office. As my symptoms got worse, he told me that we should arrange a sleep study to test for apnea. That was done and it turned out I had severe sleep apnea. It took awhile to get me set up on the correct CPAP machine and medications with Dr. MacDannald through the Walnut Creek Sleep Center, but it was worth it. In my view, Dr. Erik saved my life. He has since helped me through acute and chronic bronchitis and honed in on the correct medications to relieve a debilitatingly painful pinched nerve. I live in Walnut Creek and consider it a blessing that he is as close as San Ramon. Here's hoping he never moves or retires until I have moved on to my next assignment. read more
