Yikes! On two different occasions, I've tried to fill an expensive medication. The first time I called 4 times and got 4 different prices. The second time I called 6 times. They process orders and send things without confirming we need them, then send a bill. There is NO way to prevent them from doing this apparently. Customer service is often clueless or slow. They have screwed up our orders on multiple occasions. There are some very serious issues with this company - I suspect their tech systems are ultimately at fault based on the issues. My Nov. order was not received. I called Express Scripts and they promised to resend the order(3 times) that had my blood pressure medications. That was early December. I still do not have my medication. I have missed several weeks of my blood pressure meds. My blood pressure is quite high and still no meds. Do not do business with these people. read more

I have called 3 times and sent 2 emails and cannot get them to change their system. Another person who did not verify could have received and taken a medication with extreme, even fatal, results. What a pain. Prescriptions I have taken for several years now get rejected more often than they are filled, always with legitimate sounding excuses. I guess with the Cigna deal, they are adopting the typical insurance practice (from my perspective) of always delaying and rejecting coverage first and make the patient fight for coverage--despite what the physician has prescribed. HUGE MISTAKE Applied for their part D prescription coverage. In doing so listed all the medicine my diabetic husband takes. Application was approved. When ordering one of the insulin's he takes they stated that they were only FILLING it as temporary basis. Staying that there must a an alternate. He had been on it for 10 plus years. If there was an alternate as would certainly look into it. Given the fact that we were charged $277.00 for one vial of insulin. We haven't paid that much for 7 vials previously. They state their goal is to treat us fairly. I guess their idea of treating us fairly is by putting my husbands health in jeopardy is their way of showing what they feel is fair... It is also difficult to contact them. I've been on hold for 45 minutes before speaking to someone; and when they pick up there there is a definite language barrier. I've been trying to get a simple prescription filled. I've spoken to both Dr office and Express Scripts. Express Scripts states that the Dr is sending in the prescription in wrong. So I asked then what exactly is wrong to I can communicate it to the Dr office. Well I've spoke to the Dr office and they are sending the prescription in corrected. I'm getting tired of Express Scripts canceling my prescription. And the worst I can't get it at no other pharmacy because I would need to pay $500 a month for a 30days supply. i am currently having the worst experience with Express Scripts trying to get medications. Express Scripts took my prescription, billed me over $600.00, said it was shipped (I have a tracking number) And never received the medication. Since 9/10 I have logged over 50 hours working on getting this medication. They hAve been very UNhelpful at every turn. every call you make you have to repeat the story to call center people who argue the facts with you. somehow we get disconnected after being on hold for 30 minutes or more. The first level supervisors are just higher paid call center people that work from a script (no pun intended). I have been told by call center staff, supervisors and pharmacy technicians It's not my job so many times I'm beginning to believe it. i went to my insurance company, and within 10 minutes, Prime did an override to my prescription, called Walgreens, worked with Walgreen's pharmacy and in 30 minutes I had 90 days of medication in hand. Now Express Scripts is refusing to credit my $600.00 because they say it's Fed-Ex's problem!! Oh, they also told me Fed-Ex's web site has been down for months due to Covid!! now I have to go to Visa to dispute the charge. I hope I never have to deal with Express Scripts again! read more

I am a pharmacist. My first internship over 20 years ago was in a mail order pharmacy. As a student we had to write a paper on a controversial subject in pharmacy so I chose mail order. I wrote how unprofessional and depressing it was to work in a warehouse and why would somebody go through 6 years of a rigorous college education to work in mail order. The dean of pharmacy called me into his office, talked me out of quitting pharmacy school, and dropped the internship with the mail order pharmacy. Express scripts is the absolute worst. It took 5 weeks, and many calls to them and my doctor to get my medication. I even had things filled at CVS to tide me over. When the pharmacist told me to call my doctor (like I already did 3 previous times!) I lectured him on how to do his job. UN-F**King-believable. There is no excuse for this type of screwup. Come on Express Scripts...these are people's medications that keep them alive!!!! If you kill off too many of you patients due to your laziness, that's a pretty bad business model!!! read more

A most recent issue surfaced over non formulary drugs: Express simply denied the doctor's order, then, later, informed me of my rights to the drug with pre-authorization. So then the doctor authorized and Express ignored the prescription order again. Express told me the doctor would have to RESUBMIT the same prescription. His nurse did so. Three weeks elapsed for this $6 prescription. One of my doctors told me he refused to order any such medications period, no matter the patients' welfare. Express remains the PITS! read more

Can you rate something -0? Because that's what they deserve. This medication provider is the WORST system in place that I can think of. They are unorganized and several times when my daughter needed Asthma medicine, they didn't mail it. THEY force you into some DUMB WORRY FREE home delivery system, that does not work. If you are currently in a position to choose Express Scripts over another provider for medication, put on some SKATES and GET THE HELL away. I am currently looking for another way to provide prescription insurance for my family. Even if it means I have to change jobs!!!! My workplace required me to start using express-scripts.com. I did not want to, but I went with it--I figured, hey, I'll get my insulin delivered to my house instead of picking it up. Since then, I have had non-stop problems with express-scripts.com. They are not pharmacists. They are not even an insurance company. I don't think they know what they're doing. Their ordering system is remarkably inconsistent; their billing system is worse. There are giant delays between everything: The time it takes for them to register the prescription after the call from your doctor's office, then the time it takes for the prescription to actually show up in the express-scripts.com system as something you can order, then the time it takes for the order to actually ship after (if) you manage to pay for the order. The last time my doctor's office called the prescriptions in, I did not need to get them filled immediately. I asked them to hold them until I refilled the prescriptions. Instead, they CANCELLED the prescriptions. Then, when I needed refills (like I do now), I asked them to call the doctor's office to get the ones they already cancelled. They did not. So, I had to call my doctor's office to call in exactly the same prescriptions they had already called in 3 weeks earlier, but that express-scripts.com had cancelled because I did not fill them immediately. Today was the last straw for me. My insulin is not optional. I cannot just stop taking it for a week while express-scripts.com figures out how to do their job. Today, they informed me that they put a $150.00 limit on what you can bill to your account. My order was $13.49 higher than that. So, they didn't ship ANY of the prescriptions. The bill never even showed up in my account for me to pay. This is AFTER I had to have the doctor's office call in to refill the prescription they cancelled. As another reviewer on here notes, express-scripts.com is so incompetent that they pose a threat to the health of anyone who uses their services. It is really terrifying that this company is even allowed to handle people's medications. My insurance has required me to use Express Scripts for close to 4 months. So far: 1.) I have received other people's medication 7 (seven! seriously!) different times. On the outside, the package was addressed to me. On the inside, there was personal information and medication for other people. People expect a certain degree of privacy when it comes to their prescriptions and health information, and the regularity with which Express Scripts makes mistakes that constitute huge violations of privacy is disturbing. 2.) When I received other people's medication, I did not receive my own. One prescription showed up 45 days after I ordered it. If you are in an employer sponsored medical insurance plan, and you have had to endure gross incompetence and offensive service from Express Scripts, notify the Vice President of Human Resources of that employer, of your awful experience with Express Scripts, as it is your employer, and the medical insurance plan that they selected, who hired (and retain) Express Scripts. There is one piece of comforting news for those who are subjected to the agony of dealing with Express Scripts, and who are insured by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield; Anthem BC/BS has fired Express Scripts, effective December 31, 2018, hopefully leading to some relief to those who have agonized throughout their dealings with Express Scripts. This is the second telephone pharmacy I have worked with that is associated with insurance. The first was Optim RX which was a bit of a hassle calling in and waiting, but the process was actually pretty turnkey and extremely efficient. Then I switched jobs and had to deal with Express Scripts. Every time I called to ask a question, I would get a different answer from the representative. After making follow-up calls to confirm what they told me or to remedy the situation, I found out that the original person I spoke to was misinformed or incorrect. They will not accept co-pay cards, secondary insurance, and multiple methods of payment, despite being told by some of the representatives that they would if I followed up with my benefit planner through my company or with the main insurance provider. Today was the last straw when I called and spoke to the representative and gave them my two methods of payment for the balance. The representative repeated the information back to me and we concluded the transaction. Without my authorization, they charged my personal card for the full balance. After escalating it to the first supervisor, I was told only a supervisor was allowed to process a secondary insurance. Why wouldn't the representative I originally contacted know this? And how is it right to charge a credit card for an amount that was not authorized? After escalating it again, I spoke with Tamara who indicated they do not accept the secondary insurance option I provided - even though every pharmacy readily accepts it! Finally, after another 20 minute conversation and being put on hold multiple times, I was informed I did not even need to use them to refill my prescription and I could use a local pharmacy. This was after I was told multiple times that I was not allowed to use the local pharmacy or I would be charged more or not covered. They have incredibly poor training as their employees do not really know the answers to basic questions. Additionally, "their system" is obviously not set up to work in a comparable manner to similar companies. I am hopeful I will not have to call them again. I am also following up with my employer to make a formal complaint. On a happy note - after numerous other complaints were received by other employees the company has changed providers. read more

I can't for the life of me grasp why they are even still in business. I called to figure out why my Rx is late. It was supposed to be shipped on the 16th and take 5 days. They didn't know. Then the clerk happened to mention that I was going to be getting my 1 months supply very soon, and that I shouldn't worry because sometimes mail is delayed. Uh... what? Its supposed to be that much for the 3 months!!! Not again with these bastards!!!! He tried to blame it on my doctor. Fail. She's been writing my Rx the same way for 5 years. I asked him to cancel my service. He said NO!!! LOL!!! ONLY THE INSURANCE PROVIDER CAN CANCEL YOUR SERVICE!!! I ask him, " Why on earth would I pay full price with you jerks and be screwed around while having to wait, when I can pay full price at my local CVS and get it right in my hand and not have to wait?" No. I'm talking to my credit card company, to tell them to block you fucks. I've had it. I truly have never hated a company this much. I started using express scripts over 25 years ago thru my employers health insurance. Now that I am retired I find it even more convenient to have my 6 prescriptions filled and sent to me every three months without me even having to make a call. Any telephone dealings I have had with them have been extremely professional and courteous. When my prescription is nearing expiration they just call my doctor for a new one. Absolutely the best way to have your prescriptions filled in my opinion. I do have a local pharmacy that I use for short term prescriptions such as any antibiotics etc. Express Scripts has made my life so much easier over the years. read more

I don't understand how this company is legal and isn't in violation of antitrust laws. It seems that they are trying to put small pharmacies out of business by contracting to steal patients away from their trusted providers, often without the consent of the patient. Today I had to deal with a medication of mine being late because, without my knowledge, my prescription was sent to Express Scripts rather than to my regular pharmacy. I spoke to my pharmacy who said I would have to speak with Express Scripts myself about having my medication sent over to my real pharmacy, they said that Express Scripts would only speak to me and not my pharmacy. While on the phone with this underhanded third party called Express Scripts, I asked to give them authorization to speak directly with my pharmacy so that my time would no longer be burdened by this new layer of bureaucracy, but they told me they "do not have that functionality." I do not know if it is actually legal for them to deny me giving them such authorization, and they also did not inform me of their opt-out policy despite my clearly stated desire not to have my medications go to this unknown bureaucracy. I began looking in to lawsuits against them and see that there was already an anti-trust lawsuit brought against them in Texas for colluding to undermine small pharmacies, and while that suit did not succeed in Texas, I imagine that such a suit could be brought in a more liberal jurisdiction that has better judges to handle consumer protection and antitrust violations. I look forward to filing a complaint with my state insurance commissioner against this company and building the evidence of their practice to help bring another class action suit against them. Just so everyone reading this knows, there is an opt-out policy to remove yourself from the grip of this monopolistic company, though they do not advertise it. And I suggest you take details of the ways you have had delays in your medication or have had information withheld from you and file a complaint with your state's consumer protection bureaus, finance protection bureaus, and insurance commissioners. There are agencies that will investigate enough ongoing complaints of similar nature and together we can provide regulators with enough information to help break up this company, and we can gather the evidence needed to bring a successful class action against them. read more

Express Scripts is, simply put, dangerous. I have a seizure disorder that requires regular medications that one cannot simply "stop", i.e. meds need to be tapered off by the physician in charge. However, Express Scripts has repeatedly not sent prescriptions on time, or at all, in some instances. Question: Would Express Scripts accept liability if I were to have a massive seizure or stroke due to their incompetence? Answer: Of course not. Therefore, everyone, please use alternate pharmacies because you are putting your safety and well-being at risk by using this farce of an institution. P.S. I have had nothing but problems with Express Scripts. They will not ship my pills on time. So. SO MANY TIMES I have needed a medication (ones that are dangerous to suddenly stop taking) and theres always a problem. My script was called in on May 22nd (according to them, but it was on may 21st, the day of my psyche appointment) and it didn't ship. We waited, we called. My app says it should be here May 30th. Its June 1st. I have been off my medication for almost two weeks because of them. And this is just the most recent time. They've made charges to the wrong credit card, they've sent me medication I've told them I've stopped taking, they are ALWAYS late and I can only hope my meds will come in tomorrow or I'll have to wait til the next business day. 2 weeks. Poor customer service. No ownership of a problem. The patient must monitor authorizations closely. My PCM entered a refill for Emagality 3 times. From 5 December to today. The 3rd time was the charm. My refill finally got the needed authorization. It took the patient having to have the PCM personnly engage with Express Scripts. I was written an RX with a specific manufacturer, they sent me a different manufacturer. I spent 30+ minutes resolving the problem, after they tried to say it was somehow my fault, they said they would send out correct one. Two days later I receive emauil stating it is too early to refill and they are not sending it out.... Yet another extended period of time on telephone trying to get correct medication. Now I am only allowed to get my prescription in a 90 day supply although I'm the dosage changes monthly. So I essentially will have to pay for 90 days and only use it for 30 !!! If I could give Express Scripts negative stars, I would! They have repeatedly and erroneously cancelled my daughter's prescription. We have called them on 4 separate occasions, spoke to supervisors, got confirmation that the prescription was "on it's way", and still no prescription. But you can bet they took the money for the prescription out of my account and now I have to fight for it back. I feel sorry for the poor Veterans who have to use this terrible company. I would have preferred to give zero stars, but I don't believe that's an option. What an absolute nightmare dealing with this company! They are both duplicitous and stupid. The only time I've been equally frustrated was trying to return a printer I purchased at Fry's through the manufactuer that was used but sold as new. Each time I called to find out where my prescription was (it had required prior authorization), I was given a new and completely lame reason as to why it hadn't shipped. I was literally in tears at the end of the ninth and tenth call. The "brief 2-3 minute" holds were 10-20 minutes long. This is where the duplicity comes in. If they could have delayed shipping for another couple of weeks (but I made a HUGE fuss and demanded they ship it overnight at their cost), the prescription couldn't be filled agian in 2014, thus making it subject to a new $400 deductible in 2015. So despiceble and corrupt! I am immediately transferring my prescriptions back to my local pharmacy where I actually get customer service. read more

One of my meds was unavailable for a period of time. The product was finally released into the pipeline about a month or so ago. I contacted Express Scripts to let them know. I then received two phone calls from Express Scripts saying the product had shipped to me. I waited and waited and it never came. After 10 days I contacted Express Scripts and they said it didn't ship. No explanation or documentation of two individuals contacting me to say it had shipped.?? I explained again the RX is available and they can order it. The lady I spoke with said their system shows it unavailable and to "go somewhere else and get it." (That very rude comment came from one of their 2nd level managers). Everyone I spoke with also refused to tell me who their wholesaler was. Every other non-Express Scripts pharmacy I've spoken with has shared with me who their primary and secondary wholesaler was. I contacted a local pharmacy and they filled the prescription. I will be signing up on another plan and won't have to deal with Express Scripts anymore thankfully. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! This is by far the WORST mail order pharmacy on the planet! If you use insulin and medication they set up two accounts. What always happens non insulin drugs wind up in the medication account and suddenly you can't get a refill till these geniuses figure it out. Seven phone calls later someone goes oh yeah I see what they did. I want to jump out a window! My Doctor will e-file scripts now and they always come back wrong. They told me they were gonna send me a 25 day supply of insulin. In ten years they always send a three month supply. They said the doctor wrote it wrong so now I have to call the Nurse at the doctors office and drive her crazy again and so on and so on, Avoid Express Scripts like the plague. I am having surgery in June and need to administer Bactroban nasally once for each of 5 days. Express Scripts sent me 22 administrations at a cost of $80. When I contacted them to inquire why this occurred, I was informed by an alleged pharmacist that the physician wrote the prescription that way because the 5 administrations I actually need would cost in excess of $77. Really. BTW, when their robo-answering service asked me what I was calling about, I stated, "You f#$%ed up my prescription. Again." The reply? "That sounds like a problem." It also sounds like a problem when your victims--er...customers--f-bomb your electronic phone system so often you had to provide a response. read more

If i could give them less than 1 star i would. they are without question the worst provider of this kind for all the many reasons noted by previous reviewers. They are impossible to get to by phone - the wait times and voice mail jail is horrendous. They constantly try to push to generics or alternative Rx options and they call incessantly to ask "how are we doing?" - but clearly don't care because nothing changes. They botched mail orders leaving us without medication in a critical time period. Their personnel are untrained and unable to resolve even the simplest of questions.
