My friend and I decided to meet up with our 4 and 6 year olds. It was not easy to manage 4 little rambunctious kids in a ceramics shop, but I gotta say the owner Sonny and the lady that helped set us up were beyond wonderful. They were very understanding and kind to the kids and gave us all a tour of the studio, patiently explaining the process of making the ceramic pieces from mold while demonstrating. Very genuine people. Their studio prices were the best in town which includes use of all their paint and brushes and clean up. And they had a really big selection of small and large pieces to choose from. They have 8000 different molds. I saw so many cute things I wish I could paint them all. Love going here. Now that covid-19 is here the owner Christine has kits available for pickup. All you have to do is pick up, paint at your leisure and when you're done, drop off your piece for firing. It's not as fun as sitting and socializing but then what is these days? On first glance I was a little apprehensive to go inside (seemed messy/unkempt) but I'm so glad I did. It was so much fun. My son had a blast painting the little gnome statue. There are sooo many options of what to paint and lots of colors to choose from. The owner is very helpful and kind. I will definitely be back. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because it was a little messy and could use a little more organization. read more

Picked up my mug once the second bake was done. They didn't glaze it the first time. This time they did and i feel like they just ruined my cup. All those white Marks are NOT from my painting. It's like the glaze had a whiteish hue or it didn't bake long enough. What a waste of 30$! I am very upset. read more

I adore this place. 1) it's one of the only places left that actually makes the clay pieces in house. (They can do custom orders too!) 2) The owner treats you like family. He's a nice and laid back guy who has his daughter working there with him in the shop. You just get a really good feeling when you step inside. 3) it's so reasonable for what you get. You select whatever you'd like to paint (lots of really nice things under $20) and then pay a small supply fee (I think it's only $8) and that's it! I work in an office across the street and he lets me come back every day on my lunch hour just to paint more on the same project and keeps it for me. He only charged me the onetime fee. It's such a nice way to destress from work! 4) They let you help yourself to whatever paint colors you like. I've been to other painting places that won't let you help yourself. It was always kind of a pain because it felt like they were worried you'd use too much paint so they just squeezed a tiny dot and I'd have to keep asking for more (I like to lay it on thick. So sue me ‍) Not the case here! They have all the paints on shelves on a wall with a board to show what they'll look like after they've been in the kiln so you just find your color numbers and the bottles and help yourself. 5) it's really a fun place to go for a date, a family outing, or just for some solo art therapy. I was happily surprised to find this place on my way home! I stopped in this afternoon to find both greenware and bisque pieces! I was able to buy my mom two adorable bisque garden gnomes! I went as part of a group. It's a small place but it gets the job done. The man and lady working there were very friendly and talked to us a quite a bit, but they weren't distracting. The place has round tables and folding chairs. My table was a bit wobbly and there wasn't much space between tables so a few times when someone got up, they bumped the table. These are not good factors when trying to paint ceramics. This was my first time at a place like this and I thought the $16 for a mug plus a sitting fee was a bit steep but apparently, it's within normal. Overall, I had a great time! read more

Came here to have some girl time with my two friends a few months ago. I have always been a fan of Petroglyphs on Douglas but I wanted to try a new place. Plus this is so close to my house! We walked in and I was surprised at how small it was. I asked earlier if I needed to make reservations and she said no, we have plenty of room. I certainly don't know where. It is probably about the size of a one car garage. There are six round tables which are horrible for space saving to do ceramics on. Long banquet tables would be better. Four of the tables were occupied by things fired/waiting/newly molded items so it would be nearly impossible to do a group. The ceramic selections are on book sheves along the wall but you cannot get to them without being in someones personal space. I had to tip toe sideways and scoot around hoping not to knock anything over. The selection is too much knick-knacks and juvenile type items. I like doing functional pieces like a platter. My friend wanted to do a flower pot. They had none. Did not have many extra tools or techniques that you can use to design your own pieces. The paint was in limited large bottles so I had to look around for paints I needed. No sink or cleaning area for yourself. Because it was so cramped and close, we had to whisper like we're in a library to not disturb others or broadcast our business. This is place is best suited for those that want solitude. Not a good group environment because of the above mentioned factors. Would not book a party here. It is not the type of place you come after having some mimosas on a Sunday afternoon. It does not have that relaxing spa environment of something special which is what I love about Petrogylphs. Prices are fair. People are nice. I just prefer having the "experience" I can't get here. read more

Sac city ceramics is amazing! I come here all the time with my mom either to paint or just get out of the house. The owner is very friendly, his daughter is always happy-go-lucky and the service is great! Only semi-bad thing is that the bathroom door in the back doesn't have a stopper. - (make sure you close it slowly!) Other than that, the service is amazing! What other ceramic painting place do you know of that doesn't charge for every time you come in and paint your ceramics? The paint selection is enormous! They even have a little white board on top of the water dispenser for the paint numbers; if it has a black dot on it then they have that paint color. They also let you bring in your own food and drink! The price is also very good. From my experience of being there, Small ceramics are $5 - $10 , Medium size is $15 - $20 , and Large pieces are $40 - $60. All in all, Sac City ceramics is one of the best places to paint ceramics. read more

My wife and I paint at another ceramic place, but now have a better place to go. The difference between EXPRESS YOURSELF and Petroglyph was/is staggering. Christine is highly attentive and the perfect host. My wife and I spent about three hours creating personalized coffee mugs. Our total cost for this wonderful experience was around $50. I love it here and so does my daughter. While I've only been about 3x over the last couple years (and most recently as today), each time we have had a good experience. The owner is friendly and accommodating. The selection and prices are great and much better than the "chain" paint your own pottery places. They have a wide variety of ceramics, good selection of paints, the tables were set with brushes, bowls, tiles, and sponges. I've been frequenting this business since June and since everyone loves a critic, let me break it down for you. They are very affordable and they hold on to your project until you finish it. They have a very large inventory in just about every category ready to paint. Should you chose something from their greenware selection, they're going to do everything possible to get it ready for you within a couple days. They even sell greenware out right for those of you who fire your own. If you're looking for something specific, they'll do what they can to get it for you. Is it a smallish room? Perhaps. But I've yet to walk in and not find space at all times of the day and week. Do you have to walk around others to peek at products and paints? Sometimes. So? No one cares. Here's the deal: this is a fantastic place to hang out and paint. The owners are going to greet you, answer your questions and get you settled in. They'll check in on you but after that, unless you have questions or want to chat, it's ready, set, paint. Perfect. If you're looking for a place to learn a new hobby, bring kids and family, or paint and gossip with your friends, this is a place you can do it. Yes, even if you've had a cocktail. But if you're looking for a mimosa and spa pkg, probably not for you. There's plenty of room to hold a party, just call ahead and reserve it. They care very much about family here and treat customers as such. So yep, there's a conversation going on most of the time and everyone is welcomed to and (usually does) join in it. This is a small no frills shop. The owner and his daughter are friendly and helpful. I went with several friends and yes, it is small, however we got to talk to some nice people and it was a relaxing day. The folding tables and chairs didn't bother me. What do expect, a oak table to paint on? Found three pieces to paint and the prices were reasonable. Also, we got to bring our snacks into the store. As far as being "overly friendly", I would rather have a friendly conversation than uncomfortable silence and no interaction at all. Also, do not eat atbthe sub/burger place. Lovely little shop, family and kid friendly. Brought my two-year-old son here to experience painting. Was initially nervous bringing him so young, however the staff was more than welcoming and made us feel like family even when my son spilled the water. I absolutely love this place! It has a wide selection of different things that you and your child can paint. I took my 9 year old son year and he had a great time painting a bear and a lizard. Both of things items were not expensive and he had a great time doing it. I love that they also do a punch card and you can get your studio fee paid for when you fill it up! One thing that I love is that this place is family owned and ran, also, that everything is made in AMERICA! I love supporting small businesses like these.
