It was a nice event, lots of options for containers and the instructor had a good energy. I was happy with my succulent arrangement (sad there wasn't a gnome, but I liked the duck, ladybug and chameleon I added). I like Yaymaker because of the convenience, all the supplies are there for you, no setting up or cleaning, and you come home with a cute piece of art after a few hours. Very minimal commitment. :)

The instructor gathered some glass and did the initial shaping while explaining what he was doing and allowed each student to add their colors. We were able to reheat the glass in the glory hole under supervision and they assisted us in shaping. They were very hands on and did some of the more difficult things for you but definitely allowed you to try before taking over if necessary. We learned a lot and we had a good time. It is a very expensive experience but it definitely has value. You leave with knowledge, experience and a nice keepsake. I think a class here would make a great gift for someone or a fun activity to do with a friend or on a date and I would definitely come back here, especially if someone else was footing the bill!

Full COVID safety is in full force here with sanitation measures of the products. You do sign a waiver acknowledging release of liability in case of any injuries but safety is super simple and straightforward. It's super easy to get the hang of and I really had a great time! We got to choose to make either a bowl, cup, or vase. You will do the work on every part of the process to make a piece, but the instructors are right there to make sure you come away with something to feel proud of. Everyone in my group chose to make a cup, but each person gets to choose their own colors and each cup came out with a slightly different shape depending on how the tools were applied. It was really fun to see each persons unique final product! I enjoyed this class so well that I'd like to go back again and make another one of the options.

I believe they cap the class at eight so that you truly get the attention and detail in training that you deserve. Our instructors, Rene and Lauren, were phenomenal. They were funny and relatable and made the entire experience extremely enjoyable. After going over the basics of safety and glass blowing, we went one by one and received individual attention to make our glass masterpieces. We were given the choice of making either a paperweight, a drinking glass, a bowl, or a vase. We were allowed to pick any color of glass that we wished, and I appreciated the insight provided by the instructors as to which colors would go together well. I ended up making a beautiful vase with a translucent jade color with pops of white. My husband made a drinking glass in green and gold. From start to finish it was an incredible experience and something I would definitely enjoy doing again. However, recently I had a project that I needed help with and are wrecking my brains, I realized that Community Shop Class (CSC for short bc I'm all about acronyms) could probably help me out. Thankfully this was just the weekend when CSC hosts it's once monthly Oak Park fix it Cafe. So with hopeful thoughts in my heart, I brought my project and my family here to check it out and get some practical help. My daughter remembers CSC from the Yelp event (where we were allowed to bring a plus+1) and she was very happy to get to check it out again and it would be a first for my hubby and son. We were welcomed upon arrival by a volunteer who gave me an intake form so the fix it volunteers can diagnose my project with a problem and set me up with the right fix it person. Not long after I was directed towards the sewing room, and then Chad the founder and owner came by and introduced himself and when I mentioned the Yelp event, his eyes lit up and he said that was one of the best events he's ever hosted bc of everyone's enthusiasm and the community brought together. I totally agree!! Turns out Chad was the one who was about to fix my project and he taught me how to use certain equipment and then I was set free to work on my project. He also told me about new classes for older kids that are almost ready to be launched so I'll definitely be back with my kids for them to take classes here. Chad is truly a caring and big hearted person who's given so much to this community in the Oak Park neighborhood as well as in the greater South Sac area. Afterwards, we walked around and chatted with some of the fix it volunteers and also checked out the new changes and innovative new spaces and offerings. They have great outdoors space here too with nice pergola covered seating out front and some veggie planters. In addition, You can take all kind of classes here and their membership is very affordable with long hours starting with 7-10a coffee time together and then it's open most days till 6 or 7p except it's closed Sunday and Monday. You can print 3D items whether practical or for play, record your own podcast or song in their studio, and even make or fix a bike. All for a low monthly membership price, and there are also classes to take for 3D printing and more. There are also special classes especially for older kids to hone their life skills and to enhance their art and crafts and creative repertoire.
