I got a great styled trim from a young barber named "Z". He's a master of the comb and scissors for a really precise look and a great communicator who lets you guide your look all the way if you like. The ambience is really relaxed and relaxing, very kid and parent friendly too. Came in again with my godson to get braids. He'd gotten another great cut from Carlos (I think) a couple of days earlier and I went online to make a braiding appointment with Trinity. She. Was. Amazing! My guy was pretty excited to get it done. She met us at the shop and went to work. Not only did she do an amazing job (his hair was on the short side) but I just loved the way she talked to him. It was a big deal for him and she chatted about music, movies...just stuff. Was looking for an open late spot to get a haircut with line design after work on a Friday night and discovered this place by chance. I'm glad I did, because this was hands down the cleanest shape up I've gotten since moving to East Bay. Appreciate that they had comfy couches and shots while you wait and hot towels for after. Terry gave me a great cut, and Isaiah did an awesome job on the line design. Prices were very reasonable--$50 for the cut, and an extra $10 for the line design. We brought our almost two year old in to get his first hair cut. Our son had thick curly hair and Aaron worked with it so well. He was amazing with our son -- telling jokes and connecting with him to make him comfortable. Got my hair cut here a few months ago. Booked an appointment, reviewed website and yelp thoroughly. After cut was done the guy tried to charge me more and said that he charges an extra 10% for haircuts after 5PM lol. Not mentioned anywhere online or in person and my booking had a price confirmation. Scummy trying to swindle people once the service has already been performed. There were also many people inside maskless despite there being a mask mandate. Now they are in the news for people including customers getting shot inside. I had a regular barbershop that I went to for years, but the pandemic came along and put them out of business. During the pandemic my spouse cut my hair, but when conditions began to improve it was time for me to find a new professional barber. I tried one of those fancy salons but it was expensive and not really for me, so I decided to try Extravagant because it was close to my home. I'm really glad I did. It's owned and operated by a very nice young man who takes his business seriously but also keeps things simple (I don't need fancy decor or craft beers when I get my hair cut). Josh did a great job with the cut here. The barbers had masks on the whole time and the customers kept theirs on too. I have pretty basic cut (finger length scissors on top, 2 on sides, taper on back) but Josh nailed the details. He's been cutting hair for 26 years and it shows. Great talking with him too. $40 for a quality haircut is pretty normal for Oakland. And it feels so great to be cleaned up again these days--a little bit of normal again. read more
