Arc Clean Car Centre - Cheap and quick

Do you know what I hate? I hate cleaning my car, I hate getting all hot and bothered and all soapy…read moreand wet. I even hate when I take my car to a car wash and it's some big hairy bloke who hand washes my car for me. I think if you are going to the bother of washing your car then you should do it right. The only way to do it right, in my humble opinion, is to take it to one of those machines with the foam and the spray and the big blue duster-thingy. Now that is the king of car washing. Lucky for you I know where there is a cracker! Arc Clean Car Center on the Jubilee Road will let you have a go on their big machine (I kind of see it like a fairground attraction) for as little as £3.20. Just drive in and join the small and fast queue. The guy will ask you what you want and you can choose from a list of options - I always go for the £3.20 option but you can get a very basic hand wash for under £2.00. The guy will clean your wheels, rims and mud guards as well as applying a lovely smelling pink liquid before guiding you on the wheel ramps. The actual wash only lasts about three minutes but the air blowers dry the car for you as well - you can drive away clean as a whistle and hope that it doesn't rain for at least a day so you can get your monies worth. They also offer a valeting service and more expensive washes - maybe someday if I'm feeling flush I'll go in and get the works!

These guys must clean up! Get it 'clean up'? See what I did there? The reason I say this is not…read morejust because they are a car wash but because they are located at the bottom of Jubilee Road in Newtwonards - about a 2 minute drive from the MOT Test Centre. This is precisely the reason I visited Arc, I was taking my car for the dreaded MOT and I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a little once over before the big inspection. One thing that Arc offer which is a necessity before your MOT is an under car cleaning service - this will give the inspector a clear view of the inner workings of your car and hopefully increase the chances of a pass. The service Arc offer is graded. You can start with a basic wash for £2.50 and then pay up to £8 for the works. I went for 'Option 4' which was a clean and wax and the under car spray. This set me back £5. Not a bad price at all! The car wash is attended which is a good thing as the directions aren't very clear when you drive in. You need to pay before deriving in to the wash itself and then when it's done just drive off. All in all I was happy with the service and the wash - My car passed it's MOT - here's my top tip to ensure yours does too - go to Arc - pick option 4 and then go to the Tesco garage across the road and pick up a Magic Tree Air Freshener! **Disclaimer** Your car may actually need a service also - Car wash not guaranteed to ensure MOT pass.

My fiancé was moaning at me to get his car to a valet for him as it was in a state. I've had my car…read more3 years and never valet it so I didn't know where to go. All I knew was that there were a few wee places about and that if I went to the one near the park I could combine walking the dog with the valet so I decided to use this small valet service near our local park. When I rolled up the place was empty and there seemed to be just one man smoking at the gate. This guy greeted me very cheerily and was of eastern European decent. I'm not sure how good his English was as I was babbling on about never having done this before and how long would it take and what will it cost etc while he just kept shouting 'you want mini valet, £12.00?' I wasn't sure if he was asking or telling so I just agreed. I parked the car and suddenly there were about five people watching my every move. I felt massively undignified as I tried to get the dog on its lead while getting out of the car in a short skirt and handing over the keys all at the same time. Needless to say I looked like an idiot and they were all sniggering at my state. As I hobbled off trying to compose myself the main guy told me to be back in 30 minutes. Toby and I had a lovely walk and when I returned they were just finishing off. The tyres were clean and the bodywork was gleaming. Though I have to say I don't think it was the best valet. There were a few areas they missed and the carpet had a big damp patch on it, but, they were quick, convenient for me and cheap enough so it will do. I'd probably give them 7 out of 10 for the overall job done and for £12.00 it wasn't bad at all.

I contacted PMG to help me restore my Mercedes C200 Coupe. The car had some age related rust in the…read morewheel arches and panel corners. They agreed to arrange for the body work, to have the alloys recoated and finally for a full 'PMG -Detail' which was meant to leave the car absolutely spotless and in perfect order. We discussed numerous details and I asked them to leave nothing undone - everything that could be done, should be. Unfortunately, this arrangement did not work out very well. It started with delays, my car was to be done in two weeks. It took three. Nothing else was done but the body work - I cannot speak to the quality of their polishing the paintwork because I was not allowed to see it before they started. The car was painted and the paint job is ok. The wheels look fine, although they increased the cost 25%, mid-job, even though I made no alterations. I paid a very fair sum for this work, it was no favour. The supposed 'detailing' for which I approached them in the first place - was terrible. There is so much dirt left in and on the car, no attention to detail, it was definitely cleaner when I left it with them initially. They 'polished' under the bonnet using some shiny oil, but left grime on most of the painted surfaces. It wasn't even power washed well. They changed the reg plate surrounds - but installed the rear one very badly and it came apart right after driving away. They destroyed the Mercedes badge on the boot and I'll have to get it replaced. None of the requests we agreed at the start were done, despite my numerous communications and their confirmation that it would all be 'no problem'. I sought to get this all rectified, but they've continuously lied and let me down on every aspect. I had arranged with them for the window tinting - which they never got done - and they quoted £150, of course I just rang the company they claim to use and was told it would cost £80. They've also kept the USB port I supplied for installation into the car - despite my requesting it's return... apparently 'they can't find it now'. (The item was eventually returned, after I had replaced it myself.) Clearly my car was not a priority and not given the care and attention apparently lavished on other clients. I'll not be speaking with PMG again or referring anyone there at all.

While my car is relatively new there were a few marks in the paint left by the dealers poor preparation which I wanted removed and I knew the red Volkswagen paint was very soft and prone to marking easily. PMG being a Gtechniq certified detailer has access to crystal serum black a professional only product and this is what I went opted for. I also opted PMGs on formula glass sealant. On collecting the car it was better than new (and I would know as I bought it new). The paintwork was flawless and the gloss from it was unbelievable. I was under no illustration that what I was asking for wasn't cheap but Pete and his team offer an exceptional service and I believe are reasonably priced. I will be using again without a doubt.
