Last fall I switched to Schaeffer Eye Center located in the Providence area of Huntsville. The service was fantastic and although the selection of frames is less than Lenscrafter's, Schaeffer still had a good selection to choose from. The thing that surprised me the most when I bought my glasses was the low price. Given Schaeffer's is not a nationwide franchise I expected the prices to be higher, but to my surprise they were much lower. So good service, adequate selection, and low price. Overall very good. Moving from last fall to today: I was working in the yard and a large piece of concrete hit my face and scratched my glasses. I went back to get a new pair and the lady checked my file and said the glasses were under warranty and they would order new lenses for me. What a pleasant surprise! Went in for an annual eye exam, but really because I had some issues. They go through a very in depth exam, and will sit with you and answer any and all questions you have. I had Dr. David Parker. Professional and caring. Expected a lot less, and got a lot more. Amazing assistants. All were VERY nice and smart. It was such a warming place with great people. I have found my eye doctor and won't switch to anyone else. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Did I mention that already? I had previously gotten great…read morehealth care from Dr. Michael Salter for my Glaucoma, but am extremely disappointed in two things - I had my basic 6-month checkup July of 2025 that I paid my normal $30 Copay, however I just found out via a text message that they charged so much for my normal checkup, that they wanted an addition $65 above my Medicare payment. To make matters worse, the message indicated that my account, which they had never billed, would be sent to collections if it wasn't promptly paid. When I called up to enquire, the billing department was not apologetic about the extra amount, just said they were having billing issues and didn't apologize for sending out threatening notices for billings they never made.

I interacted in some way with about 10 different people who worked in various parts of the office. Every single one of the staff was very kind, understanding, supportive and they were all HAPPY. It was such a pleasure to be in a medical office with such a happy and organized group of people! Dr. Chenault was very supportive and patient and answered all my many questions thoroughly. They even helped another patient search for his keys for at least 30 minutes! Several of them! (I was sitting on them. sighs.) The office was VERY clean and organized along with state of the art equipment and testing. Both of my sons are new patients as well, and very happy. I spent just over $200 and got new contacts only to realize it's a bad prescription that my eyes…read morewon't adjust to. I was VERY unhappy with my experience here getting a new contact prescription. I WILL NOT be coming back again. If I had an appointment scheduled somewhere else in the future and saw that dr I'd just leave. First off the trial contacts the dr gave me were the wrong prescription... I've attached a picture for reference/proof. Before I even left his office I put in the trial contacts, he looked at them with his machine while they were in my eye and he was like "oh they aren't even in the right place" after I said my left eye wasn't adjusting. He looked at it and didn't realize he'd made a mistake still. He also told me that it was only a very mild adjustment from my old prescription. Left eye went from 1.75 to 2.75 and right went from 1.25 to 2.75. So even though the last dr I saw thought I needed slightly different strengths on each eye, this dr didn't even pay attention to that and wouldn't do two different strengths. When I questioned it his answer was "well everyone has an eye that's a little fuzzy". What?? This is not one eye being "a little fuzzy". He changed the axis of my left eye by 4 which I think is why the new contacts for that eye will not stay in place throughout the day. It's back and forth, back and forth from where it needs to be. I asked for a recheck and when I got there the first thing he said was that I'd only be there for a second because he was sure he'd given me the right prescription. So he spent barely a second on each of the options for the strength of the prescription, I don't know what the machines are called so hopefully this makes sense. Just flipping back and forth after not enough time for my eyes to adjust even, same way he did the first time I was there. I kept asking questions and asking him to go back to this or that slide (again I dont know what it's called but it makes a slide sound when it's switched between options). I realized quickly he did not care and was not going to give me the right prescription. He didn't even change this prescription he just finally got annoyed and gave me a renewed version of my old prescription with the axis of 170 instead of my old 166. He claimed they don't even make contacts with that axis anymore. I bought contacts with that older prescription just last summer and had no issue with them. He claimed my eyes would adjust but it's been 3 months and my eyes haven't adjusted.

My vision was very bad I ended up paying five or $600 for glasses each time I thought that was because I needed high index progressive antiglare etc. etc. etc. I recently had cataract surgery and went back just to get glasses for basically a little distance and reading she said it would be $476, and this is with insurance. Of course I did not get them That was my last time going there besides the fact they are overpriced you have to wait forever there's usually only one person there. I will say the manager is always friendly but that's about the only good thing about this place. Dr Collins acts like this is a side job and she doesn't have time for it.

I was literally a thousand miles from home and experienced a drastic visual change in the left eye…read more I called The Eye Center in the same building as Retinal Specialists of North Alabama and was seen the same day. The Eye Center immediately sent me upstairs to the Retina Specialists. Dr. Persaud and all the employees were wonderful. As you can imagine I was very stressed by this unexpected illness which turned out to be a retinal tear. Dr. Persaud reassured me and did a laser procedure immediately. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and kindness of Retina Specialists of North Alabama. CGM
