Today I had an appt with Dr. Patel. I was impressed!! The staff was efficient and greeted me kindly. They had snacks and drinks and a really awesome waiting area. The doc himself was very helpful, and had a great manner about him. After having a not so great experience with the "prescription glasses person" in the lobby at my last place, I was really searching for my next eye doc! Well after more than one recommendation and also a 5 star yelp history I made an appt. I am very happy. So it was very disappointing to find out that Dr. Sawhney was gone, but the office staff was as friendly as ever, and graciously informed me as to where Dr. Sawhney had gone (moved up north and started her own practice). However, part of the appeal of Today's Vision was how close it is to my home, so I simply switched over to Dr. Haven and was in no way surprised to find that she was just as good. Quick, thorough, and competent. Just what I like in my medical personnel. The technicians are great too. Very friendly & with good attitudes. I have gone to Manish Patel, OD for 20 ish years. I am hard to fit in glasses and his have been perfect. Before I found him, I drove 5 hours every year to Longview, Tx to see my old doctor because I was unable to find one here who could fit me(tried 3) He has also successfully diagnosed my sister and my adult daughter with eye issues that needed specialty referrals. I went to Dr. Patel for help with seeing my computer screen better. He sent me away with glasses for distance. I used them for 2 weeks and kept getting headaches. When I went back in to correct my script, I was offered about 1 minute to air the complaint before I was lectured on human error and blanket apologies. The corrected lenses came in on Thursday a week later. I called several times Friday to see about a Friday/Monday time frame to switch the lenses. It's Monday .. I just called again and was given the possibility of a quick swap today at 4:30p after my morning messages went unanswered. I am sitting here, blurry-eyed, typing this out because I have already been shown they won't hear my complaint in person. Find a different OD. read more

Watch out for optional service. This office skips steps covered by my insurance and add optional service that uses their equipment outside my insurance. They have charged me for those services without proper disclosure or upfront consent. And when I complain, they use all kinds of excuse. I finally got enough of that and moved to a different doctor. read more

Tae is so great with the kids & always goes above & beyond! Dr. Patel introduced me to the TruEye Acuvue 1-day lenses after I had been wearing gas permeable lenses for 18 years and my eyes are sooooo much more comfortable. I can confidently play contact sports now & that would have never happened with the hard lenses. Just an update on the fact that Dr. Patel is not only a great person to see when you need a new pair of glasses or contacts, but also to diagnose (possibly) more serious issues. I and my wife went in to see if we had a case of the dry eyes, causing headaches and overall discomfort. Dr. Patel patiently, and professionally ran through the tests, explained EVERY single possibilities, and answered all of our questions. The Dr. has an eternal well of patience, and put us at ease. I really cannot think of a good reason to consider anyone else, perhaps other than distance. Woot! I love this place. I have horrible vision, most of the time when I go to an eye doctor that kind of write me off since they really can't perfect my vision. This place was the first of so many eye doctors that has helped me find a really great solution to my difficult prescription. They are really patient, helpful, friendly and kind. Also they were really respectful of me and my well...poorness. The eye glass associates helped me find an affordable package that was in my budget and let me make two payments. The best eye care experience I have ever had. It is worth the drive to South Austin. Here's what I loved: - Dr. Patel detected very quickly that I had been prescribed much too high a magnification, especially considering my lifestyle (lots of computer use, reading). I strarted wearing the lower magnification and have noticed a big improvement in my comfort level right away. It is so much easier to use the computer, read, grade papers, etc. - He also noticed symptoms of allergies that I've just been too stressed out to notice myself. He gave me coupons for a very reasonable priced OTC allergy treatment. - All the pre-exam tests were quick and comfortable; I was never left waiting for an awkward period of time. - Dr. Patel was very knowledgable about the pros and cons of different contact lens and solution brands. He clearly listens to his patients and keeps track of their preferences, not just which brands pay him to sell their products. Prices are also very reasonable, even without vision insurance (at least for the exam, I didn't shop for glasses). read more

I can't remember who referred me to Today's Vision Southtowne, that's at 290 and Mopac, but the first thing that grabbed me was that their phone number ended in the numbers '2020'! I had a great feeling about this office from the start. Dr. Manish Patel is a warm and interested person, interested in your concerns in all ways - your eye health, your type of insurance (if you have worries about coverage), your interest in different types of eye-wear for your needs. I was told I would never have success with contact lenses, and he has made it possible for me to function quite well with comfortable contact lenses. He is personable, warm and knowledgeable, and has a warm sense of humor and a good way of looking at things to set your mind at ease in times of uncertainty, and will work with you to find other alternatives if you aren't happy with the first option. May I recommend the OptiMap? You can see the inside of your eye! How cool is that!? All of the front desk personnel are wonderful. Ever since I was really young I've been going to Today's Vision (first in Houston, now in Austin). Dr. Patel and his staff have *GOT* to be the nicest, most caring health providers I have ever visited. They really care about you and your health. Once I dropped a screwdriver in my eye under a desk at work (brilliant, I know) and called them immediately since I felt my eye was really scratched. I would recommend this place. The staff is friendly and efficient; I wasn't waiting around long after my appointment time. I also appreciate their confirmation of my appointment time. I got a phone call and a text message to confirm. We got there, signed a few forms (which were mostly pre-filled thanks to the staff! such a time-saver!), and were soon called in for our exam. Dr. Sawhney was so nice and gave me good information. I felt comfortable talking to her because sometimes I'm pretty embarrassed how bad my vision is. They also offer the OptoMap Retinal Exam, which is some fancy new technology that I've never heard of until now. It takes a digital picture of your retina, and the doctor can see MUCH more of your retina than in older exams (i.e. dilating your eyes and shining that bright light). No eye dilation, the doctor can actually SHOW me what she's looking at, AND these images will be saved for future reference? Yes, please. read more

When I lived in south Austin many years ago, I found a coupon in the back of the Yellow Pages for Today's Vision for a half price exam. They scheduled me within a day to come in and I had an amazing experience. Today, I live much further north, but I still travel (sometimes over an hour by bus) to Today's Vision because I have never felt more secure and welcome at any other doctor's office before. Dr. Patel has gone above and beyond, allowing me to try free samples of different contact brands, and even mailing them to me. His staff is helpful and quick to answer any questions I have. I only wish my main doctor and dentist were this considerate, prompt, friendly, and comforting. If I could give more than five stars, I would. Also, if you do not have insurance, they are very affordable and will work with your situation. read more

Dr. Sawhney, Josh and Angie were outstanding! HIGHLY recommend -I've never had such a wonderful experience at the eye doc. After having my first kiddo my vision was not the same so I came in for an eye exam after 10 years of not wearing glasses. Dr. Sawhney was FANTASTIC! She took her time explaining each step of the exam and took her time to ensure I got the most accurate reading for each of my eyes. One of my eyes was in-between prescription strength so I was able to test out lenses by wearing those metal glasses that look like their straight out of a Harry Potter movie and make sure that in the natural light and real world outside of the office my prescription would be just right. I've never had a doctor take such an interest in ensuring my vision is perfect. On the billing front - I have Blue Cross and a VSP discount plan. I wasn't sure if BC would cover the exam but based on the reviews on yelp I was willing to pay out of pocket to make sure I got my pre-mommyhood eyesight back. Josh was great and took the time to contact my insurance to see if an exam was covered. I read on yelp reviews of various optometrist offices where people felt the team was too pushy on buying their eyewear or products - not so at Today's Vision. I felt informed about the options they offer and what to look for when buying glasses. I feel confident that you get what you pay for and at Today's Vision the team really does care that you get a product that will be just right for you. I didn't end up buying my glasses here only because I took a long time finding a pair I really liked online using the virtual try on option - all my fashionistas know that trying on a pair of glasses you love is more exhausting than buying a car :) Will definitely be recommending Dr. Sawhney and Today's Vision to family & friends! read more

I have worn glasses for most of my life and have been to MANY eye doctors over the years and this place is fantastic. Dr Patel was patient and took the time to do a very thorough examination. When I came back after a trial fitting of contacts adjusted my prescription slightly and even took me outside to read signs across the parking lot and to make sure that they were comfortable in the daylight. (WOW!) Office staff are also exceptional. They sent appointment reminders, called my insurance to verify coverage and even made a follow up call to see if I was happy with the glasses/contacts I had received. As a side note- the office staff are really fun, the atmosphere isn't too stuffy. Insider Tip: Check out the back wall for discounts ... got my frames and lenses for $109 without insurance. I'm a tough one to give 5 stars, I started this review at 4 stars and moved it to 5. I LOVED the office staff here and the doctor was great. The attitudes of everyone in the office were welcoming and caring. The thing that set them apart was offering the eye photo and the selection of contacts they have in the office. I am very blind (-8.5 and -8) so getting trials in my power are impossible. They had more than I ever expected. 2 kinds of daily contacts and a pair of my regular contacts. I loved being able to leave in new contacts AND not having my eyes dilated. I'll be back and my husband, mom, and dad will be joining me. read more

Before moving to Austin, I was seeing an opthamologist for a chronic dry eye issue. I was going in for routine check ups every 2 weeks, was prescribed expensive eye drops, and just dropping loads of cash at every office visit. Despite all of this, my eyes weren't getting any better... In comes Yelp to the rescue and I discovered Dr. Patel, the eye doc with a bajillion 5 star reviews. Dr. Patel was able to tell me in one 30 minute office visit what it took the other guy MONTHS to figure out. I was taken off the eye drops and was given several trials for daily contacts. My dry eye has nearly resolved on its own and I am back on a regular eye exam schedule. The staff is professional and competent and they are just all around great folks. Especially Josh and Jenn! This Today's Vision also has a great selection of frames spanning every price range. They also let me hang around and try on frames for like 30 minutes every time I go in. Thanks guys! read more

There's a reason for all the five-star reviews; Dr. Patel and his team are just great! Dr. Patel takes his time with you during your exam and will work to be certain that you have the correct prescription. Sometimes doctors will try to rush through appointments to get to the next patient, but not Dr. Patel; you feel like you are his only patient for the day. He is very pleasant, easy to talk to, and has a wonderful chairside manner that will put you at ease and make you feel comfortable asking questions. The one positive is that was I taken care of immediately when I arrived for my first eye exam and the staff was very friendly. I never actually got to see Mr Patel, but his staff took great care of me. Things took a turn when they made me do the Eye Map and didn't inform me there was going to be a cost associated with this. I thought it was free and part of my regular eye exam until I saw it on my bill. Then, a few months later, I called to make an emergency eye appointment. I woke up with severe pain in my right eye and I was so worried and didn't know what to do. I called and asked for an emergency appointment that same day and they turned me down and said they didn't have space for me until the next week. So I found a different eye doctor who took me in the same day and diagnosed me. I was able to get relief for my eye pain that same day, elsewhere. Although the staff was friendly here, it was upsetting and felt like another business that's just out to get your money and doesn't genuinely care about your well being. I hope they make time in the future for folks like myself when it's an emergency. read more

I kind of stumbled into Today's Vision shortly after moving from the Bay Area last year, and I'm glad I did. I know this place is a chain or whatever but the staff is incredibly personable and Dr. Patel is a gem. The first time I visited I had my nine month old with me and she was not having it. Dr. Patel literally held her and calmed her down during my exam. I remembered how kind he was and decided to visit Today's Vision again this year for my annual exam. Dr. Patel again impressed me. He's a perfect blend of likability and competence - knowledgeable, funny, analytical, compassionate. After my exam Brett, a tech with the same easygoing proficiency as Dr. Patel himself, hooked me up with lots of contact lenses and solution. I had to stop going to Today's Vision in Oak Hill because they started making decisions about my health in spite of my wishes. I was told that I would eventually need cataract surgery and I agreed. But they determined when I should have it even though my vision was still 20/25, and my work schedule would not allow me to take the time off just yet. I was planning to get the surgery this summer but that was too late for them. When I needed to refill my prescription for contacts, they refused because I had not gotten the surgery yet. So, I decided I had to get a copy of my prescriptions and go elsewhere. They gave me one prescription but refused on the other one (I wear two different types of contacts) and when I asked why, they said because I had not gotten the surgery yet. So, they were forcing me to get surgery before I was ready, and since I did not meet their timeline, they were going to let me run out of lenses.
