Note: This is an independent optometrist's office, inside the Costco in Bradenton. Unlike Amy below, I had a good experience, but I do understand her complaints (more below). I visited for an eye exam for progressive lenses, my 1st time at this location. Heather did do my entire exam, as well (never had anyone but a dr do that), but at one point I asked if she were Dr. Jones & she said she had schooling & was certified (I forget her exact title) & had years of OJT training with eye doctors. Honestly, she did as thorough a job as any doctor I've seen in the past, so I have no complaints. Also, I had many questions about dry eye problems & she was able to give details & product recommendations in simpler language than "doctor speak", so I appreciate her input. Same as Amy, Dr. Jones came in after she completed the exam & reviewed her work & do a closer inspection. When I complimented her thoroughness, he agreed & said her work almost needed no checking. I can understand that some feel they're paying for a doctor's exam & only want that... same as some don't wish to see a nurse practitioner, but only a dr... but I'm fine with the former, as well & at times feel I've had better care with a nurse. He did, however, see something in my eye which concerned him & wanted to do the $121 scans they offer. When I said I'd need to wait a couple of months, as I've no insurance & am in-between jobs, he said he was so concerned, he'd waive the fees, as if there were an issue, I'd need an immediate referral to an eye specialist. Heather did both scans, which only took 5-min. Fortunately, there was nothing to be worried about, but I do appreciate his insistence that I check it out immediately & granting the waived fees, which shows he wasn't just trying to pad the bill, but felt it was optimal care. I'm very grateful. I also appreciate that although Dr. Jones was quite busy, he asked if I had any other questions or needed further info on anything. I found the whole office to be friendly & helpful, including Wendy who got me an appt same day. In addition, Costco's optical staff, who help with ordering frames, lenses & fitting, is also aces. All in all, it was just a $79 fee for the exam & I got a lot of info & treatment suggestions for some of the eye problems I've been having. I'll definitely visit for next year's exam. 5* out of 5. read more

I highly recommend Feather Sound Eye Care at Costco in Bradenton. I was having problems for months with a prescription from my Ophthalmologist. I couldn't see clearly out of my glasses. Went back twice to to the Ophthalmologist's office try to resolve it with no success. Finally decided to get a second opinion so tried Feather Sound Eye in Costco. I am so happy with the results! The prescription from my Ophthalmologist was too strong, I had Costco fill my new prescription with sun glasses and regular glasses. I can now see very clearly and no long get headaches! I could not be happier with Feather Sound Eye Care. The staff and doctor were great!! read more

What a wonderful visit with Wendy and Doug. First, it's Costco! So time to do some shopping after the eye test! Second, it was easy to schedule. Next: Wendy was delightful! Kind and warm and attentive to everyone in the flow of the eye testing process. Doug was also superbly helpful and friendly and I walked out with my prescription, into Costco eyewear dept and Joseph was the icing on the cake. I have no idea if the doctor is any good or not. I made my appointment in person, then the day of received a text message confirming my appointment within the hour. So no indication at all that there's a problem. I drive the 40 minutes to my appointment just to be told that they are transitioning doctors and sorry but they had no control over the notifications. I'm sorry, what?!?! You cannot see nor thought to get a list of all of the people that had appointments during this period of time to notify them of a reschedule or cancellation? Then to act like you're the one put out when I'm upset upon finding this information out when I arrive? I know this is independent within Costco, but I hold Costco accountable. I've had my eyes examined through Costco numerous times through the years in a few different states. Each time has been an excellent experience. Since relocating to the EC, I hadn't looked for new health practitioners, but I'm happy to say that I now have an eye dr.! It's a 30+min drive but worth it. I went this week and, wow, the new technology is impressive! A machine that spotted my floaters, checked my retina, checked for glaucoma, cataracts, etc. and eliminated the need for pupil dilation! No blinding sunlight to hide from when we left. As has been mentioned in another review or two, the dr. didn't supervise the machine exams. A woman named Lisa did and I was in awe as she narrated when it spotted the floaters. So fascinating! Everyone was professional, friendly, answered my questions, and was appreciative of my patronage. Today, I called them with another question that came up when I was speaking to the place where I will be buying my frames. The person answered my question thoroughly in a way that I understood. I have already conveyed my experience to family and some friends and hope they have equally as fantastic experiences with FS. read more

A few months ago I had my eye exam and got a prescription for new glasses. I'm a bit confused about the issues others have had with the assistant doing the eye exam and not the doctor. I've only been wearing glasses for 7 years but I've NEVER had the doctor do the eye exam with the exception of the "which looks better, 1 or 2" part. And that is now done remotely, as everything is done and uploaded to somewhere else. This new system is a Costco requirement. The assistants did the tests and Doctor Jones reviewed them the make sure everything was ok. I even pointed out an eye issue that I had with a previous exam. He double checked everything and gave the all clear. He also took the time to explain what he was seeing and why the new equipment was able to do a much better exam than earlier tests. I will be going back for my next exam and have absolutely no problem recommending this place to anyone. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I made an appointment to see Dr. Jones for both my husband and myself. When we arrived at Costco the attendant stated that the first appointment of the day came late so all of the appointments for the entire day were delayed. They accommodated one very rude person and got everyone else the rest of the day upset. When we finally were ready to see the doctor we found out that there is no doctor at the location. They are using a remote system where your information is sent to a technician and then approved by a doctor. This is not what I signed up for. The technology however was not working the day we were there so we spent 2 hours of our time and couldn't even get a prescription. The link to the remote site kept going down. I will never, never go back to the Costco in Bradenton for eye care. It was an absolutely horrible experience. read more

I went to feather sound I care with Dr. Doug Jones at the Costco in Bradenton Florida. I was so disappointed to see that the assistant did my complete exam, not the doctor. The assistant went by the prescription of the contacts that I had brought in my self. She said that I had astigmatism in one eye but not the other. I asked her how she knew that and she said because she looked at my old contacts. Interestingly enough, the eye that she said did not have astigmatism she concluded from a very old prescription. The last prescription I had did show astigmatism in both eyes. I was also charged an extra fee for the eye that had the astigmatism. What was that about? The assistant certainly did not do anything extra to determine this. Dr. Doug Jones came in at the very end to look in my eyes. He asked me if I have ever been told I have calcium deposits on my retinas. I explained that I have been diagnosed with PIC, which is something totally different. He said, "Oh, well maybe it's that." He had not even looked at the paperwork I completed. Now, I'm trying to decide if I should have another exam. I DO NOT RECOMMEND FEATHER SOUND EYE CARE AT COSTCO in Bradenton, FL. read more
