It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.

Delicious breakfast of quiche & homemade muffins, fruit bowl with kiwi, apple, pear, watermelon, honey dew, banana, & blueberries topped with vanilla yogurt & a touch of granola, and wonderful coffee. A parking lot that is within view of most rooms. Quiet neighborhood close to both downtown CO Springs & Manitu Springs. A wine social to mingle with other guests upon check in. A collection of DVDs to borrow during your stay. Romance packages that include a dozen picture perfect roses, a bottle of champagne, breakfast en suite, and bubble bath. Owners that live in the next house over, should you need anything when staff has left for the evening. We'll return, no doubt. You should visit too.

The person who runs it is extremely nice and helpful. So what was the issue? The walls are paper thin. If you get one of the rooms where there's two rooms put together, you can hear every single word a person says. It felt like we were in the same room together. After two nights there we could not take it anymore and ended up leaving early. It wasn't just the talking either, we could hear their phones ring, we could hear them run water, we could hear their TV. It took all the relaxation out of the stay.

She serves a wonderful breakfast for the guests. The detail in every room is impressive. I found myself observing every part of this house. I was amazed at how much effort and thought was put into every piece of art . We loved our suite Mt. Fuji!!! But all the rooms have the same amount of attention and detail that go with each theme. We loved it so much we want to go back and stay in every suite. The view of Pikes peak , the sunrise and sunsets from the patio is picturesque. This is the perfect place to stay for a weekend.

No one made my kids (16,12,10) feel unwelcome as they explored, and respectfully used the pool, ping pong table and corn hole set. The surrounding nature is gorgeous to explore and there are beautiful horses on the site even in winter to visit and say hello to while out walking. We are very excited to come back in the summer and use the zip line, shoot some hoops play some volleyball and maybe even get on a horse for a ride. Our picnic table was right next to our neighbor site's picnic table; you can share a meal with your stranger neighbor if you wish. The stall doors in the bathroom are comically short; they were cut to about knee height when sitting on the toilet so that your junk is at risk of exposure while you're sitting on the toilet. The campground is also RIGHT off the highway so you go to sleep to loud traffic noise and wake up to it, too. It also backs right up to a residential area, so you can look at the back of folks' houses and hear their dogs bark through night. There were roosters to wake you up in the morning, too (ngl I kinda liked that part). My husband and I are avid hikers and campers, so we've seen a lot of campgrounds. This is my least favorite, right after one of the KAOs in Virginia. During our stay, I playfully dubbed this place "the trailer park of campgrounds," and before you come after me, I grew up in a trailer park (so I would know!). If you need a convenient place to stay, it will do. It's a place to sleep. But if you're wanting privacy, space, and quiet (you know, the things people go tent camping for), then you'll want to go elsewhere.

They made lovely breakfast and they've lived in the area for decades so they are able to give recommendations for local sites, restaurants, and travel routes. They were friendly and happy to chat but also happy to give me space and alone time. My room had a queen bed and an attached bathroom. There was no TV in my room but there is free WiFi. It was a very cold winter weekend but they had extra blankets. They also have a hot tub out back and they're surrounded by pretty woods.

I personally was not impressed at all with this local Inn. I don't know what I was expecting but…read morethis wasn't it. Was it clean? Yeah in my casita type converted garage type room. It was clean but I felt the entire place was a free for all. I am not a big group type person and was kind of retreated and stuck in my room. Then the main house is huge and beautiful but the community rooms were messy- the kitchen was just gross in the middle of the day. There was a vending machine but the one breakfast offered was NOT at an appropriate time for me or my daughter. I eat before 8am and I could have made it until 9 am but the cooking wasn't even started and the kitchen was still trashed by 10 am the next morning. There was still a stinky pizza box on the counter when I was looking for a cup of coffee and we had left to eat every single time so we had eaten by the time the breakfast was being started and the guy cooking (NOT THE REGULAR CHEF) wasn't even started by 9:30 and honestly looked hung over as heck. I do not feel I got a $300 experience at all. It felt like I went to a big house party and paid too much to be there. I could have had a better time at a private air BnB where I had to cook and clean myself. I am not exaggerating even a little this was a horrible experience for me and even if they offered me a free stay there another time I would absolutely decline to do so. The whole thing taught me that I am not a bed and breakfast type person unless breakfast is before 8am and the people running the place are WAY MORE TIDY; (at least having coffee made earlier than 8am); I didn't enjoy my stay the way I had hoped I would and it wasn't comfortable enough to lounge at for me. I thought it would be great for my service dog also and he didn't mind the festival going on but this place isn't designed to have a festival. There isn't enough space. Other people were just hanging out everywhere also smoking cigs. Yuck! I am fine with. Cannabis anything but cigarettes in my breathing air is not ok with me. Ever. So if I have to smell that I will not be pleased. It could prossibly be better on a weekend when there isn't anything extra happening. The event was a complete joke but that absolutely wasn't because of the Inn or any of the Inn staff but it ruined my experience. In fact I spent all day in Manitou not at the festival. The town is amazing and fun it was the best part of our trip being anywhere but our room. NOTICE: I did get to meet the regular chef from the Inn he was kind and friendly but definitely frustrated himself over it all. So, I am sorry I have to leave this review but it absolutely is not some place I would recommend now. It really was filthy in the main house. I wish I had been there when the regular staff was in charge. I had a better stay at the La Quinta in Pueblo on the way to Manitou and that isn't much so hand up I have to be honest and this was my real experience. There are no pictures of my room or the house because like I said I was not even impressed enough to take one. Not even one. The pictures posted by others is real but they got the clean version not weekend at Bernie's like me.
