Eyes On Sheppard has a sleekness to it: if you close your eyes and switched lenses and frames with phones and iPad, it's easy to imagine you're at an Apple store. It also has gadgets and gizmos a-plenty to test everything you need to know about your eyes. But the reason I've been a longtime customer is because of the people. I've been seeing Dr. David Black for years now and I've always gotten topnotch service. He's professional yet also friendly and puts you at ease. He never tries to upsell, always telling me when a few changes to my grade don't require changes to my glasses. Overall I had been happy with the service and treatment at Eyes on Sheppard even though it was more expensive than similar services. However, I am very disappointed as on my last visit I was given a tiny bottle of eye drops to try for dry eyes. It was given to me like it was a sample and there was no mention of cost. When I got home I looked at my bill and realized I had been charged $35 for the tiny bottle. Under no circumstances would I have agreed to purchase these drops as there was nothing special about them and could be obtained from the pharmacy or online much cheaper. I felt the whole thing was very underhanded and completely changed my opinion of Eyes on Sheppard to putting profits far ahead of patient care. FYI, I am no a small fixed income, the drops did not work and there were 6 applications in the bottle. read more

Worst experience I've ever had! I was looking for a new eye doctor and my facebook community recommended Eyes on Sheppard, so I called to book a new patient exam, sounds simple right? Wrong! They don't answer the phone so you have to leave a message. Then they call you back anytime they want! Shoshana the receptionist was rude once they did call. Put me on hold then kept me on the phone for 15 minutes asking for more information then necessary (my health card number). Offered me an appointment two weeks from today and then told me I had to pay $50 for the privilege of being a patient in their practice. Really??? Worst experience I've ever had trying to book an appointment!!!! I called another eye doctor, they answered their phone and booked me an appointment for this Wednesday.It took 5 minutes and no $50 patient fee Ridiculous! I was on the hunt for a new eye doctor for me & my kids since the last place was not the best. I found this place on google & said why not! I am so glad that I did! Everyone was super friendly to me & my 6 year old son & 8 year old daughter! The staff was patient & reassuring! We had Dr. Ruskin who was super thorough & friendly!!! The kids both wanted glasses, but luckily everyone's eye sight was great!!! We will definitely be back! Highly recommend for anyone who has kids!!! read more

I enjoyed Eyes on Sheppard because of Dr. Fiona Soong. Since she's unavailable much of the time there's no reason to use their services. They're more interested in ramming one through the numerous expensive eye tests (someone's got to pay for the new digs). Dr. Black lacks intuitive diagnostic skills. read more

This place is all about sales and marketing. The customer service is just a bit too smooth, they hired a technician guy to do preliminary tests on your eyes while you wait to see the optometrist, and they have state-of -the-art/unnecessary instrumentation. That's probably why they charge premium pricing for their services, and charge you extra for retina scans that you don't really need (and don't ask your permission to do the exam either). I felt the optometrist did a thorough job with my exam overall, but the extra charges and push to buy frames from their store was a bit much. Not coming back. read more

I get thoughtful and thorough care from Dr. Kerry Salsberg. I don't mind paying a bit extra (if that's even the case) for tests using state of the art equipment. I've never been pushed to purchase glasses here. The staff is friendly and efficient. read more

I've been a patient of Kerry Salsberg for about 5 years. Although the exam is more expensive than a standard exam you may get elsewhere it is extremely comprehensive. Dr S spends a great deal of time getting the prescription right and in fact when another doctor prescribed me progressives for computer and reading, Dr. S had me try on some light prescription reading glasses and they were great. He told me to save money, I don't need progressives yet, just go buy over the counter readers versus getting prescription glasses. On my last visit, I had an issue with an eyelid infection that I didn't know about except my eyes were itchy at night. Dr. S gave me a sample medicine to try and when he gave me a free checkup 2 months later it was much better. Talk about service ! Regarding the pressure that others have said in reviews to buy glasses here, yes they want you to buy glasses. Its a business and if they can get you to buy here versus elsewhere, it keeps them in business. If you don't want to buy glasses here, just ask for your prescription on the way out and they give it to you no problem ......but........ My wife gets her glasses here and has nothing but good things to say! The frames last and last, the quality of the glass used is excellent and their main guy doing the fittings knows exactly what he is doing. We've been to other places (before I had laser surgery for distance viewing) and the frames don't last, on some the prescription was actually ground wrong and when you wanted after sales support, I seemed to be the one in the wrong. The lady optometrist tried to trap me and she succeeded. I went there for my son's eye check, we were thinking about ortho-k. They gave me some paper about ottho-k to read at the same time told me they will took my son to some kind of eye check, when they came back I was told I have to pay 75$ for the check unless I buy ortho-k because that check is part of ortho-k package. ortho-k is 2,450$, I didn't make my decision yet, don't even have a chance to talk to my husband, they already pre-checked something and I have to pay. Bcause ortho-k has a lot of follow-up work and I am afraid of been trapped again, I left their office and went to another optometrist , eventually we bought ortho-k through the second office. Before we decided to go with ortho-k, we didn't pay anything except for the 80$ regular eye check at the second office. The lady optometrist at eye on sheppard always push me to buy a pair of frame glasses for my son first although we told her we are thinking about ortho-k, she said if we go with ortho-k, this pair will be a backup. The second office told us the backup pair has to be bought after ortho-k because only by then the degree of the backup pair can be decided. read more

I noticed this as I heard one of my friend (not very close) suggested . I am bit pity to choose this facility for my kids eye therapy. there are several reasons: 1. they never disclose any past information about what's the rate of success and keep saying the kid needs more and more practice and more and more onsite sessions. that's not only because le money but also both parents and kids have to undertake the length training for months. in my case, when my kids situation is determined, I use traditional way - eye patching for about 3 months and it raised up from 20/200 to 20/40 but after another 4 month eye therapy training(I stopped the eye-patching as per this clinic's suggestion), my kid's visibility has nothing riseup. 2. its an unfair game because the information you get is way less what you paid. 150 dollars per time and you spend 45 minutes in the office and then you have to do hours of work at home, that's not fair because before the therapy, we were told only 20 minutes or so is needed 3. they hired many non-professional persons to guide the training, when I say non-profession person, means they are not opetemetrist or Doctor. I think this is because Vision Therapy is not a command/recognized health services, so the entry level is low or non. 4. it seems their normal practice for lens/eye exam is ok but others is just like business, persue money is their priority. read more

I've been a patient of this clinic for many years and I can sincerely say that I enjoyed the service and compassion by Dr Fiona Soong. Today I called to schedule a routine appointment for a current prescription and was told the clinic only offers "comprehensive tests for the benefit of my good health " at an exorbitant fee of $159. No one not even the office manager could explain in detail the specific tests being done for this fee. I explained that I am under the care of an ophthalmologist for many years with routine eye examinations by a specialist including visual field tests and I don't require duplicate tests and I'm simply requesting for a new prescription. Charge me for an eye exam but I felt pressure for a fee for unnecessary tests. I requested for one of the optometrist to return my call and explain this unnecessary condition the clinic imposed on its patients. I will provide an update should I receive a callback. Nonetheless, it appears I need to look for a new clinic that cares more about patient care rather than pressure sales tactics and unnecessary tests to only serve the clinic's profit margin. Very distressing to see the degradation of patient care over the years. read more

I fell in love with a frame that was available at only a handful of opticians. I decided to use Eyes on Sheppard for the first time. Sari, the head optician, was helpful. So I ordered the expensive frame and top of the line lenses through her. I've been wearing glasses for about 60 years. This was the first pair of glasses that were uncomfortable and so blurry that I couldn't see. In addition the glasses gave me headaches. When I returned for a better fit because the frame was hurting my ear, Sari made the frame too loose. Then she refused to tighten them. Once she had delivered the glasses, the time available and quality of her service, both dropped. Sari insisted that the lenses were perfect and refused to repair them. She blamed the script. She made it clear that if I changed my eye doctor to an in-house doctor, my problems would probably be solved. She refused to address my problems. I took the glasses to another optician for a second opinion. He immediately told me that the script was positioned incorrectly on the lenses. He also noted that I did not need to go to an in-house eye doctor because all the information an optician needs is written on the script, or gathered by the optician directly. My eye doctor confirmed the problem with the script position on the lense. The difference in position was so dramatic that it required a new pair of lenses. Nevertheless Sari insisted the lenses were "perfect" and refused to repair the lenses. The glasses had a manufacturer warranty that would allow for new lenses, but Sari refused to request a change. She would only refund my money. So I accepted my only option, the full refund. I wrote a letter of complaint to Sari and the owner of Eyes on Sheppard. They never replied. I would strongly suggest that Eyes on Sheppard are eager to sell, but deliver exceedingly poor quality service and poor product, and do not stand behind either their product or their servi ce promises. I would strongly suggest you take your time and money elsewhere. In 60 years of wearing glasses, I have never had such dismal service. read more

Best place in the city to get your eyes checked! The doctors are personable, thorough and caring. Staff are pleasant and helpful. I had a retinal scan done which no other optometrist has ever done before . This was simple to do and well worth the small additional cost considering I want all tools possible used to assess my eye health..... and Eyes on Sheppard provides it all! Overcharging for eye exam, and then pushing you to make glasses with them. Not willing to give you information you need to make glasses elsewhere. I made my glasses there some time ago but I paid a lot more for the exam than I would pay most places. I was not given any prescription at that time so I called them to obtain my PD measurement that I needed to make new glasses. They told me they are not authorized by law to give this information to patients. I called College Of Opticians Of Ontario and learned this was not truth, as optometrists must provide patients with the information in their file upon request. I put my request in writing and I went there in person to get my information. Receptionist kept repeating that they are not authorized to give it out. Lab manager also was trying to convince me that this information cannot be given to me. I handed her my written request and she went to consult Dr. Salsberg who finally instructed her to give it me. Our family has been going to Eyes on Sheppard for at least ten years. I have to strongly disagree with the previous review. They are the most professional office I have ever dealt with. Dr. Soong is always bursting with the most current information. I have recommended friends and family to her. The technicians are very professional and patient with the most elderly of clients. My 84 year old father is usually nervous around doctors but feels very comfortable in this office. We wish we could give Eyes on Sheppard 10 stars because they deserve them. read more

The girl I booked the appointment with back in August (Erin I think it was?) was so delightful and helpful! I was immediately impressed with their customer service. But when I had my actual appointment a few weeks ago, the girl I checked in and out with was RUDE!!! (short black hair, glasses, Asian). I felt like I was being pushed out the door. The office manager who was assisting me in looking at frames was incredibly passive aggressive and talked to me like I was stupid, to the point where I did not want to purchase glasses because of her. I had been to this office a couple times before with both my children and was very pleased, however after my most recent experience I will not be going back. As i was rushing to get to my daughters appointment running a few minutes behind. I was thoughtful and called the office to let them know we were on our way and we were running a bit late. Upon my arrival, being 10 minutes late, I apologized, was checking in and asked to sit and wait. After 5 minutes the receptionist asked me if we could reschedule as the doctors next appointment was there. (I didn't see anyone else in the waiting room?? or they might have already started their appointment?) I then asked if we could wait and be seen after, and that I didn't mind waiting for a while even up to an hour. She said no thats not how it works as then they will be behind all day. I left saying I would not be rescheduling. I felt as If i was being reprimanded for being 10 minutes late. I was upset because the receptionist could have explained this to me when I first called to say I would be late. She then asked me to sit down for 5 minutes more and THEN decided to tell me this??? This office needs to explain to their patients what their RULES are!!! read more
