Dr. Machat and the ophthalmologist gave me a second chance at sight and absolutely changed my life. It has been 3 years since the surgery and I still see just as clearly as I did the day after surgery. They understood my severe anxiety issues, they were patient with me. Everything happened so quickly too that it didn't allow me a chance to back out and talk myself out of it and I'm so glad because this has been an amazing amazing amazing experience for me. My husband and I came in on a Wednesday to see if I qualified for Lasik at all, after the testing, which was thorough but quick, we were explained the options and the costs. My husband and I decided to go ahead and pay upfront in full and scheduled my procedure for that Friday. So I had one day to freak out and then I was in the procedure room! Highly recommend this lasik institute, the staff, Dr.Machat and just getting lasik in general. I was on the fence about it but I would gladly do this procedure over and over again every year if I had to to have these same results as I currently have, even 3 years later. Also, don't get discouraged if your regular eye doctor tells you that you're "not a candidate" for lasik and that it "would never work" because sometimes those doctors are wrong or are just trying to make more $ off of you. This has been the best decision I have ever made and so thankful my husband pushed me to do it because he knew how much it would help me.

I sat in the waiting room until 5:25 before being called back. The tech who was assigned to me was clearly very new to her role. She repeatedly did things backwards in addition to not providing any communication about what she was attempting to do. She lacked confidence which in turn caused me concern with the calculations/decisions she was making about my eyes. After fiddling with instruments and trying to use tools on me that she wasn't thoroughly trained on, she completed her portion in 20-25 min and told me the Dr would be in shortly. 20 min later, the Dr. Melissa Toyos came in and, within 5 min, started trying to sell me on cataract surgery. (I am at the beginning stages - not full blown cataracts.). Since I wouldn't agree to pupil dilation (due to having been there almost 2 hours by that point), she ushered me out to the eyeglass counter and told me to sit in the waiting room. When she walked by a few minutes later, I asked her if we were going to do a contact lens review/fitting because my contacts were still sitting in the exam room. She responded that she didn't know that. (We had discussed my wearing contacts while I was in the exam room - both with the technician and with the Dr.). Back in the exam room, she told me another person would come in to help with the contacts. After waiting 10 minutes, the young girl came in and asked me if I knew what my contacts prescription was. I told her that information should be in my record because I got the contacts from them. She said "it's ok. I can get it from the optical shop records." 15 min later I was still waiting on her to come back. At this point, I had been there 2 hours and 20 min and there was no one in sight when I walked out in the hallway. I returned to my exam room and as I put my old contacts back in, the Dr poked her head in asking if everything was ok. I told her "no, I'm still waiting on someone to bring me contacts. I cannot wait any longer. This is completely unacceptable. I am appalled at the experience I have just had." I collected my things and walked out. Toyos Clinic used to be good but those days are gone. I highly recommend you look elsewhere. There are plenty other doctors in the Memphis area that are more concerned about their patient experience (and respectful of your time.). Choosing a doctor is a choice and clearly Toyos Clinic is no longer the right choice for optical needs.

Twice I have been sitting in the waiting room 90 minutes past my appointment time. Not again.read more

Told to come back for follow up in December which we did . Asked to pay another $50 for a refraction. They do not tell you this before you have it done either. Just try to make next appointment and demanding $50. No wonder they have such a nice building. I suspect they do this repeatedly to every patient. Absurd!!

Dr. Zogsby never checked behind these staff members. I assumed (my mistake) they knew what they were doing so I put my trust in these decisions. Before this surgery I never wore glasses but I was seeing through a slightly cloudy film that I was told was due to the cataracts. I approved of having the surgery because staff members told me I would have a new lease on life because I would not need distance eye ware which I didn't have to have anyway (but I may need readers which I was already using for up close work) Dr. Zogsby came in the examination room just to tell me he would be doing the surgery. On the day of surgery I was given a small amount of anesthesia and the procedure began. He talked about his son playing ball with the nurse the whole time (which was approximately 10 mins) He never addressed me other than when he was finished at which time he said "You did great" and walked out. When I went back for my checkup my vision was 20/20 but 2 weeks later it had deteriorated to 20/50. I was told it may take several weeks before my brain may accept the new lens. I took them at their word, so I scheduled the second eye for the same surgery. The second eye was much of the same outcome 20/35. I was struggling to see and couldn't drive due to this deterioration. When Dr. Zogsby said it may be a some other underlying condition that I have he tried to say I may have the beginnings of glaucoma at which time he gave me a eyedrop that was suppose to help with pressure on the optic nerve. These drops made my eyes blood shot and burned constantly. My opinion, is that the lens that was placed in my eyes were reversed and now after 7 months of this struggle I returned to my regular eye doctor and he told me I would need glasses that would somewhat correct my sight. He also said there was no sign of glaucoma and high pressure. He told me to stop the drops at which time the burning a redness disappeared. I think this clinic is relying on staff member's to do the doctor's job. Some of the doctors may have a great outcome but I would not recommend this clinic at all. You never know which doctor you will get. Please do your homework before letting anyone touch one of your most precious senses.

The staff seemed friendly, efficient, and professional. Unfortunately, my second visit for a contact lens fitting was a completely different story. After my initial appointment, I waited over a month to be scheduled for the fitting. In fact, I had to reach out myself to find out what the delay was. By the time they got back to me, it was a new calendar year and my insurance deductible had reset--an expensive inconvenience. When I finally received the lenses, it was immediately clear they were not my prescription. I couldn't see at all with them in. I kept the packaging to examine it later, but the associate became visibly upset and demanded I return it without giving me a chance to look. When I asked for a copy of my updated prescription, they simply provided me the same one I had brought in from my previous doctor. No changes, no explanation. So what exactly had I been fitted with? I still don't know. Dr. Salley then informed me that if I wanted to try multifocal lenses that might actually work, I'd need to pay an additional $80. This was after already paying $130 for a "premium" fitting and follow-up. At that point, it felt like I was being strung along with no real plan to improve my vision. I've worn contact lenses for over 40 years--I don't need to pay for a fitting just to be handed the same prescription I walked in with, especially when the trial lenses were clearly not that prescription. Despite having vision insurance, I still paid around $300 out of pocket. Without insurance, it would've been over $400--and that's before the multifocal upgrade. On top of that, they pushed pairs of glasses that cost nearly $1,000. The frames were uninspired and overpriced, and I couldn't justify the cost, especially given the lack of confidence I had in their recommendations. To make matters worse, Dr. Salley's demeanor had completely changed between visits. On the first visit, he was pleasant and friendly, though he refused to even glance at a small bump on my eyelid, instead offering a referral to a surgeon. (Thankfully, the accommodating Dr. Google suggested it was likely a harmless milia, something I would think an optometrist could have just told me.) On the second visit, he acted like we'd never met. He sent in an intern to do the exam, and when he arrived he simply refused to believe anything I said. He contradicted everything we had previously discussed--on the first visit saying multifocal lenses weren't effective and he didn't recommend them, now insisting they were the only option. It was confusing and frustrating. And while this may seem minor, Buster the office dog--cute as he was--clearly needed more frequent bathroom breaks. The smell of old urine warmed by the afternoon sunlight streaming through the waiting room window was unpleasant and unprofessional. In the end, I left Clearview with no usable prescription, no glasses, and a significantly lighter wallet. I had hoped for clarity--literally and figuratively--but instead, I got confusion, inconsistency, and a disappointing lack of care. Could I have pushed it and made myself a nuisance and annoyed them until they did more? Yes. I could have. But I no longer care to guide a business on the provision of quality customer service when there are dozens of other options available. Yelp lists 240 optometrists in Memphis TN. There are practices at Costco and the mall that treat their patients with more care than this boutique practice- and the local college of optometry is graduating new practitioners every year.

Even though my glasses were broken,I agreed. To make a long story short after several calls back and forth, I was told the delay was not their fault (?). 29 days later I got the call that they were ready for pick up! When I got there to pick them up I asked what caused the delay.I was given a lot of double talk and no strait answers. When I asked again I was treated in a very harsh and unprofessional way. In a word RUDE! If that was the end of it that would have convinced me that I would not return. A few weeks went by and the lenses on my $1100 glasses began to cloud and and it became difficult to see.I had to return and was told that the lenses was defective and would be replaced. After another 2 weeks I returned to have the new lenses replaced,at which time the story changed and all of a sudden the damage to the lenses was now my fault! I was told that I didn't clean them properly! I assured the rude person at the desk that I knew how to take care of eye glasses. At that point as I leaving a woman came in with the exact same problem that i was having-new lenses clouding up to the point that they were useless. And having to return them just as I did, I didn't say anything and left. It has been about 2 years and the glasses seem ok now (other than being vastly overpriced). I felt like I got shabby treatment and had to deal with a lot of attitude from the staff. I will not be returning there in the future.
