If you'd asked me where we'd stop the most often on our Big Island trip, I would not have predicted Eyewear Kona, but that's where we stopped the most! Following an evening of (number redacted) mai tais, my partner had a late night meeting with the hotel room door, which he had mistaken for the passageway to the bathroom. Not only were his glasses damaged, but he was seriously banged up! We saw that Eyewear Kona offered both repairs and same-day glasses with their in-house lab, so off we went to see Darcy. I was joking that she's never going to buy the old "I walked into a door" bit and would call the cops on me. She could not have been more helpful or kind, first checking the body damage in case he needed medical attention (he didn't); then getting the bent glasses as close as possible back to the original shape; and finally helping my partner find a new pair from their unique and stylish selection of frames. At the end of the same day, we were back for our new pair of glasses. A couple days later we returned for some adjustments, no problemo, and were even told that if there were further issues when we returned to the mainland, we could ship the frames back and they'd take care of them. I love the frames he selected and although I wouldn't wish the incident on him again, I'm glad it brought us to Eyewear Kona. It's like the new pair was meant to be. The staff is so friendly and professional, and I was brought back for a comprehensive eye exam promptly with top-of-the-line equipment. Immediately, Dr. Nguyen was able to identify several areas we could improve and explained all of my results to me in simple terms. He came up with a plan for me and I have noticed such a difference!! He even identified my chronic allergic conjunctivitis and irritation from sun damage without my prompting and prescribed eye drops that have saved me so much distress in allergy season. I had my eye exam right next door at Bennett Eye Institute and figured, why not try a private company this time. The professionals here were top notch. They measured correctly, the first time. The optician, Edgar took time with me to select the right frames and shared all of the latest lense options. The glasses showed up in less than two weeks. My previous experience at a Waimea Optometrist was disappointing, from the get go. Wrong prescription info, never ordered my expensive frames then screwed up the billing. Nightmare. I had recently broken my glasses and was coming into Kona to take my cat for a checkup. I doubted I would be able to find someone who could quickly repair them but did a map search and found Eyewear Kona nearby. In about five minutes, Darcy put my old lenses in new, identical frames and checked that they fit properly. I was so grateful for her immediately fitting me in and taking good care of me. I found the staff thoughtful and welcoming as I described the situation and presented my frames with a request for repair service. The staff were very patient and easily zeroed in on my needs and preferences, also helping me understand proper sizes for my face. My wife needed to see any eyewear specialist after having not seen an eye doctor in years, so we both started looking around on the internet. We have insurance that some don't take like Costco & Walmart among others and we have to get this done before the end of the year. As I was perusing online I found an ad for Eyewear Kona with Dr. Khoa Nguyen smiling face and thought, "he looks like a nice person" and as I looked at the website for Eyewear Kona I saw our insurance listed. So, my wife called to make an appointment & to our surprise, they were able to take us the very next day and it was great because my wife already had an appointment in town (we live 37 miles south of Kailua Kona, so we always try to do our business on the same day as much as possible). I just want to say my wife & I are very pleased with Dr. Nguyen as he was very knowledgeable & Professional & his staff were the same very Courteous & Professional. Ave Dayoan fitted my wife & was very helpful & did a wonderful job. Then there is Adrenne Quicho, who is the receptionist but does much more than that, meeting with salespersons & stocking things etc. She was very nice as well. It is a friendly, clean office run by Professionals. I even picked up a nice pair of shades too! Before coming here, I had gone to a different eye shop/opthamologist and had a horrible experience for several reasons. So I tried Kona Optometrist Dr Nguyen and thankfully found a huge difference! Dr Nguyen has state of the art technology where he can complete an examine in 20 minutes that is inter active with each test in his office with him! The first place I went had old tech that required waiting between tests for a very long time ... and with eye drops that made me really sick almost needing to call Uber to take me home ... and neither the receptionist or doctor cared ... they acted like it was normal I was so sick. Also with this first place, I was ignored by the doctor as I was the last patient and he was outside on his phone for an hour ... with NO communication with me at all ... so my entire visit took 2.5 hours. With Dr Nguyen, the drops did not make me sick and I was done in under 30 minutes! Then I was ready for the Kona Optometrist Eyewear experience which I found astounding because of their huge selection ... along with a specialist that wants to make absolute certain you are going to be happy with your choice. And I always feel happy in this place! (not so in the other place whom has a sour receptionist) So I cannot more strongly recommend Kona Optometrist Eyecare & Eyewear. read more
