Dr. Senft has been my Primary Eye Doctor for the past six months. She is always smiling and very friendly. She also had the best staff, who are very knowledgeable working with her. I've been having headaches for as long as I can remember, and none of my Drs. could explain it. I've also been having difficulty driving at night. After seeing Dr. Senft, and having the laser treatment done, my headaches have subsided and it's a lot easier for me to drive at night. Wish I knew about this sooner. I've also told Dr. Senft about my grandma and how her eyes have been affecting her. My grams went in, had the laser done in one eye, found out she needed cataract surgery done on the other. After the surgery, my grams is much happier and very appreciative of what Dr. Senft and her staff has done. Just like any eye dr. the wait time for some patients is long, depends on what you're doing. However, they do let you know how long you may have to wait and they also offer coffee, tea, water and pastries while you wait. read more

My husband need to be seen by an Optomologist immediately while we were on vacation because he had cataract surgery a month earlier. They gave my husband an appointment that morning. They did a medical background, eye test, eye pressure and took photos of his eye. The doctor examined his eye and told us his stitches were in tact and that he did not seen any foreign object in his eye. He prescribed and antibiotic because he thought my husband may have pink eye. We picked up his prescription in a half hour. The staff were friendly and professional. We appreciation the excellent medical attention you gave my husband. read more

She came highly recommended by the Community Hospital; where I was diagnosed with a corneal abrasion, and completely blind in my left eye after my daughter's fingernail sliced it open. This place is all about selling unnecessary surgery to suckers. If you care about your eyes and general health stay away from this cut factory. It took her just minutes to start selling me unnecessary eye surgery. It is easy to see she is a quack for dollars. After refusal they kept calling in attempts to sell me unnecessary surgery saying it needed to be done as immediately as possible. They called so often I finally had to demand they never call me again. I found a trustworthy doctor within a couple of weeks and after his check of my eyes he found absolutely nothing that indicated a need for eye surgery. Went to this clinic to get a new prescription and a new pair of glasses. I was told it would take two weeks at most for them to get my new prescription glasses, and it has almost been two whole months and I still don't have the glasses. Every single time I call, nobody answers. A couple of times, they returned my call, but could offer no explanation for why they still do not have my glasses, and they have no interest in figuring out where my glasses are. It's extremely frustrating because I drive for a living, and my current prescription glasses no longer work for me, so I effectively have been have to drive for weeks without glasses. These people are jokes. read more

My wife Linda C was suffering from headaches behind her eye and face. Went to the Urgent care clinic - received some Rx but became worse over next few days, so went back to the Urgent care clinic, they said go directly to Dr Susan Senft. Went directly over, with no appointment, but she was in great pain and it was getting serious. Wonderful staff got her right in. Dr Senft spent time with her, full exam and diagnosed exactly her eye problem and treatment plan and Rx to follow before getting more serious. She was thorough, calm, reassuring, and let her know her eye was going to recover and be back to normal! My wife was so comforted by her caring manner and treatment! So glad she's in Kona . . . After learning that Island Eye Care is the only office here able to accept payment from Medicare for corrective glasses or lenses following cataract surgery, I got there in a hurry. I met with Optician John Johnson and was amazed not only at how much he knew about selecting glasses, but how much he SHARED WITH ME! I had not one clue as to how to choose glasses, and it was obvious he wanted me to be satisfied. John discussed many of the elements involved in making a good decision that I needed to consider, and answered questions I didn't even know I had. There's more to this than I knew! He was also generous in time spent with me which I also appreciated. Had John not given me this incredible input, I'm sure I would have been seriously disappointed on numerous levels with the outcome. But, armed with all this information and his educated recommendations, I made a decision. I get my glasses in about two weeks and feel confident in my selection. Dr. Senft saved our vacation! This is our first visit to the Big Island and even the concierge at our resort admitted that good doctors (especially specialists) can be extremely hard to come by as many apparently return to the mainland in time. We called and emailed around to a number of internet search results and Dr. Senft of Island Eye Care was the first (and only) to respond. She was extremely pleasant on the phone and offered that she would be happy to head in to her office (at a time when it was usually closed) to take care of us. After an unsuccessful visit to an unrelated urgent care facility on another island, Dr. Senft was an absolute pleasure to work (and chat) with, and her specialized knowledge was exactly what we needed to get us back on track. read more

I was in for an exam, that led to a diagnosis of narrow angle glaucoma. Dr. Susan Senft spoke to me all about it and made understand it completely without freaking me out, and that the laser surgery was very successful at treating it. I came in for my surgery, one eye at a time and even though the place was busy the staff was making sure everyone was comfortable in waiting. There were pastries and coffee, and cold drinks as well. The Doctor was expert and efficient in her work, I left with almost no discomfort and they made sure the insurance totally covered it. Wonderful experience all around and I won't be going any other place for my optical health needs. I'm on vacation for my birthday and Mother's Day, I woke up with my eyes shut with green crusty stuff :( swollen pain ugh go to urgent care got an ointment 3 days later and I'm here on the big island on Saturday miserable the day before mothers calling different dr offices for eye specialist since the meds didn't work from the urgent care. I waPiliko'asn't expecting to be seen by anyone anytime soon. Until we left a msg for an emergency visit and dr Suzan Senft called me back and said to meet her at the office since I was so miserable. She is an amazing doctor ( surgeon ) and person she checked my eyes and called in the correct prescription. The worst service except for nurses. The Administrative staff and scheduler have no clue what they're doing. They don't even have codes to submit to your insurance and try to charge people for things that are covered. I would rate a zero if I could. If your eye's are important go elsewhere. read more

I was so grateful that Dr. Susan Senft was able to fit me in right away for my eye issue while on vacation. I got there in 15 minutes and they knew who I was, had me fill out paperwork, and saw me within 30 minutes, even though they had to work me in to an already full schedule. I was given an initial check and follow up check by the doctor within a short period of time. The doctor was thorough and kind and addressed all of my concerns. I am writing this with great appreciation and gratitude. Dr Susan Senft has served three generations of my family; from my grandmother while she was in her eighties and early 90s, my father until he died and now the current generation. Personally, I had not had any experience with her until recently. One day my husband awoke with an eye that was nearly swollen shut and a violent red colour. He had suffered through the night, unable to sleep with pounding headaches and a throbbing unrelenting pain from the eye. We needed emergency care. Dr. Senft immediately accommodated us. She was compassionate, concerned, and very professional. She made her diagnosis, did surgery at the office, and fortunately my husband was able to get relief. She monitored and followed up with us for the remainder of the week and into the weekend, coming in on her days off to make sure he was healing properly.
